The Murder of Late Term Abortionist George Tiller By Scott Roeder: A Warning To Christians

Posted by Job on May 31, 2009

News that notorious late term abortionist George Tiller received the very sort of violent death that for 30 years he meted out to innocent unborn children reminded me of debates that I used to have with a liberal that I once knew. This fellow was extremely well versed in suspect and intellectually dishonest arguments, but there was one in particular that he absolutely nailed me on:  though both conservatives and liberals have their extremists, in this country it is the conservative extremists that have always been more prone to committing acts of political and ideological violence. Now I took great offense to this statement, because even though the fellow who made the comment did not intend any religious overtones when he made the statement at the time I was a Bush Republican who equated “conservative” with “Christian.”  However, some informal research on my own (not that I am a professional researcher i.e. a journalist, historian, statistician, etc.) not only confirmed the point that the fellow was trying to make – that the clear majority of political violence that had occurred in this country was committed by conservatives – but also one that he was not trying to make and was not interested in, which is that many of the conservatives who resort to political, ideological and religious violence in this country do in fact profess to be Christians.

Of course, the media has the habit of claiming as professed Christians those who are not, including Eric Rudolph (who set off bombs at the Olympics and at abortion clinics and homosexual nightclubs in the 1990s) and Timothy McVeigh. Quite the contrary, Rudolph and McVeigh both renounced Christianity. However, the sad truth is that doing so with McVeigh and Rudolph were never necessary, as there were plenty of right wing terrorists who were professed Christians to choose from! And I have to tell you, news that conservative Christians constitute the single biggest block of Americans that support torture and the war in Iraq, it is no surprise.

Now this is not intended as a broadside against conservatism. I myself am apolitical and attack both sides. I attack conservatives more because conservatives maintain the demonstrably false position that their movement most faithfully represents and advances the doctrines of the Bible where liberals make no such claim. In other words, where Christian followers of the Republican Party and the conservative movement are often likely people who are sincere but deceived, there is no way that any supporter of Barack HUSSEIN Obama, who placed Kathleen Sebelius – the friend and supporter of Tiller, the nation’s most notorious abortion doctor because of his willingness to perform procedures so gruesome that even the vast majority of his peers that kill babies for a living refuse to do – to lead the vital Health and Human Services Department can claim that they are supporting someone who respects, let alone obeys, the Bible.

But the question remains: why is it that in America more politically motivated violence comes from those who claim to be motivated by a literal interpretation of the Bible than by, say, adherents to the liberation theology of Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s so-called “pastor” Jeremiah Wright? A similar question: why did so many Bible believing Christians back the Iraq War and continue to do so even after it was exposed as a complete fraud and total nonsense, and why do so many support torture? Why did so many Bible believing Christians support the increase of state power when that very state power has been used against Bible believing Christians for centuries, from the birth of the faith in the fascist Roman Empire to modern times in communist and fascist states?

I wonder if the answer to this was found in a discussion board on the Jerusalem Post that dealt with the issue of violent crime in America. The fellow stated that it was a longtime teaching of the rabbis that where full keeping of a Torah made a person better than he was before (i.e. better than a pagan or a nonobservant person) partial keeping of the Torah made a person more evil than he was before (i.e. more evil than a pagan or an atheist). Because of the spiritual nature of the law of God, only keeping its whole counsel made a person more like God, where keeping only part of it actually makes them more evil. Now normally I am suspicious of the teachings of the rabbis, but this is one instance where the saying actually correlates with what the Bible says. The Old Testament prophets, for one, castigated Israel for only keeping part of the law i.e. the sacrifices and observances while committing murder, idolatry, and injustice. Jesus Christ picked up this theme against the Sadducees, scribes and Pharisees, including this devastating comment: Matthew 23:15 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.”

So where legitimate Christianity makes a person better, more like Jesus Christ, false Christianity makes a person worse, more evil, and further people reared in or converted into false Christianity become twice as worse as the first generation of false Christians! And according to the same statements of Jesus Christ, this means that America and its church is in a whole lot of trouble.

Now while American Christians certainly have a long sad history of not acting like Christians (and refusing to admit it, see “The American Patriot Study Bible” and its whitewashing of history) this is more about the contemporary scene. You see, we are over four decades into the strong delusion and great deception of the American evangelical church known as the religious right. Its earliest modern form was when (Roman Catholic) Pat Buchanan was able to garner religious support to help get Richard Nixon into office. Sometime later the movement became a full fledged one, motivated primarily by Roe v. Wade, to aid the election of JIMMY CARTER. (Few religious right leaders will acknowledge that Jimmy Carter was their first candidate.) After Carter turned on them, groups like the Moral Majority, the Christian Coalition, etc. were formed to back Ronald Reagan and the rest is history.

However, the religious right, while certainly right, was never religious. Not only was it an ecumenical movement, bringing Protestants together with Mary and angel and pope worshiping Roman Catholics (something that would have been impossible without Vatican II and Billy Graham), but actually an interfaith movement, involving Christians, Catholics (whom I take the position constitutes an entirely different religion), Jews and atheists. Further, before September 11th, George W. Bush was actually trying to bring Muslims into the coalition as well!  We all know from the Bible that coming together with unbelievers to advance Christianity is something that is forbidden, but instead for the past 30 years we have had Christians working hard to advance the religious agendas of Catholics and Jews!

Further still, the religious right never advanced actual Christianity, concerned around the death and resurrection of the Word of God Jesus Christ and living by the commandments of that same Christ. Instead, the religious right advanced a civil religion of morals, values and culture, what the Salvation Army founder William Booth would call Christianity without Christ and religion without the Holy Spirit. There are two reasons for this. The first is that if you promote actual Christianity, then the Catholics, Jews, and non-observant Christians will all leave in a heartbeat. The second is that actual Christianity is not something that will be advanced by governments and their laws and armies, but instead is a religion of the heart. So instead of using the true message of Jesus Christ in evangelism, we try to tell people how to behave, not so that they will avoid an eternity in the lake of fire and be reconciled to Jesus Christ, but so that they will be “good people” or “good Americans” according to our own estimations. And of course, this causes more than a few people with atrocious personal and spiritual lives (adulterers, drug addicts, liars, racists, tax cheats etc.) being called “good Americans” just because they have the “right” political views. I am tempted to call it a form of godliness that denies the power thereof, but now that I think of it, it is not even that. Instead, I am calling it an entirely different belief system that competes with Christianity that is precious little different from the deist philosophy of most of our founding fathers and the very similar naturalist – deist philosophy/religion of the ancient Greeks. Regarding the Greeks, consider Aristotle and Plato, who were monotheists, but their god was most certainly not the God of the Bible, and it is not surprising that Aristotle and Plato in their philosophy rejected the immorality, decadence and confusion of the polytheists and instead promoted a personal lifestyle and society governed by morality, civility and ethics.

So now, we are entering our second generation of Christians whose religious worldviews have been shaped more by the political pronouncements and activism of James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Tony Perkins (and let’s face it, the Vatican and Zionist Jews) than by the Bible or any sound teacher thereof. Three pieces of evidence of this sad state. Billy Graham is able to state publicly that he no longer believes that Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, and he and his ministry suffer absolutely no negative consequences whatsoever. George W. Bush states that Christians and Muslims worship the same God and no one bats an eye, and later states that the Bible is not literally true or the final authority, and none of the evangelical leaders who backed this fellow for eight years – even to the point of supporting George W. Bush’s war in Iraq based on the idea that Bush was a devout man given to much study and prayer whose actions and policies were being guided by the Holy Spirit and thus reflected God’s Will – didn’t say a peep. And then there is the Carrie Prejean debacle (and before her the Sarah Palin disaster, which continues to this day).

Now regarding Prejean, I really never criticized her that much, only the people that were using her. Why? Because I honestly have a difficult time arriving at how she knew any better. Based on my own experience growing up firmly believing in A) premillennial dispensationalism, B) you can lose your salvation and C) one had to speak in tongues in order to be saved, I am fairly convinced that many Christians – especially young ones – read and interpret the Bible for themselves, but instead interpret it according to the framework given to them by their pastors, parents, teachers and other role models in the faith (which now includes televangelists, political Christians, recording artists and other Chri$tian celebritie$). So how else are we going to avoid raising a generation of Christian kids who firmly believe that evidence of the faith is not keeping the commandments of Jesus Christ, but having the right position on homosexuality and abortion? What else are we going to produce but a generation of Christian kids who believe that the Word of God became flesh and died on a cross and raised from the dead so that we could get  a pro-life majority on the Supreme Court, post the Ten Commandments in every public school classroom, and defeat homosexual marriage initiatives?

How many of the kids in this generation know that abortion and homosexuality were commonly practiced in the Roman Empire during the time of Jesus Christ and His apostles, yet Christ and His apostles rarely even mentioned that fact, let alone tried to change it? Read the New Testament: it only deals with the sins of the world when speaking of the world’s judgment in Revelation, the Olivet discourse, and other eschatological passages. Otherwise, the only sins that are dealt with are the sins of the people of God, the Jews in the time of Christ and the church after the coming of the Holy Spirit. The New Testament gives only two methods of dealing with the sins of the world: A) the church remaining separate from the world (which again, the religious right rejects by definition) and B) evangelizing the lost, which of course removes the sinner from the world and makes it incumbent upon him that he practice A).

Instead, the Christian conservative movement rejects the teachings and example of Jesus Christ and His apostles by trying to force the world into being partially righteous part of the time, or even being completely unrighteous all the time so long as you A) have the right beliefs and B) can cover it up. And in the process of trying to get the world to behave, Christian conservatives allow Christians – people in the church – to behave however they want and in many cases believe much of whatever they want (so long as their beliefs are “right” on abortion, homosexuality, taxes, military, etc.) And you can see the result. Abortion rates in evangelical churches are the same as they are in the overall culture, and divorce rates are even higher. (Again, so long as you “believe” something is wrong in a political sense, how you actually live your life is of little consequence or concern.)

Those are just a few indicators: there are others. So the question is: what is American Christianity going to be like 20-30 years from now, when – unless the hand of God intervenes – the current generation of evangelicals reared in what is at best a theologically shallow and doctrinally suspect Christianity and what is at worst an entirely new religion altogether are leading our churches, seminaries and Bible colleges? I believe that what Jesus Christ spoke of in Matthew 23:15 will be the result, and just as the religious leaders of that day made it very difficult for the early church (to the point of killing and driving off not a few of them) Christians who desire to learn and keep the true commandments of Jesus Christ will face extreme difficulties. A lot of Christians are talking about how Barack HUSSEIN Obama is going to open the door to mistreatment of Christians, but I honestly wonder if these Christians had better look at other professed Christians! Because please recall that the Bible says that by delivering Christians over to the authorities to be killed, people will consider themselves to be doing a service to God! So, it won’t be ACLU Human Rights Campaign NAMBLA abortion rights atheist secular humanist liberals (or Muslims for that matter) doing this to us to fulfill that prophecy. It will be adherents to a Christless, cross – less, Holy Spirit – less moral and civil religion (that very much lends itself to either universalism or at the very least pluralism) that will be closely tied to the exaltation of the state and culture, and perhaps ultimately be led the beast of Revelation, the anti-Christ himself!

So Christians, take a long hard look at Scott Roeder and consider if he is precisely the sort of zealot for an external form of religion based on partial belief and adherence that persecuted Jesus Christ (falsely accusing Him and sending Him to the cross) in the past and will do the same to true members of His church in the future. Wouldn’t it be ironic if the great persecutors of the American church in the future are not Muslims, Barack HUSSEIN Obama liberals, but “Judeo-Christians”? (By the way, “Judeo-Christianity” or “Judeo-Christian values” or “Judeo-Christian culture does not exist. Judaism and Christianity are two different religions, and furthermore modern Judaism and Christianity have no more to do with each other than does Christianity and Islam. So they are a contradiction. Further, Christianity has nothing to do with “values” or “culture” as those are temporal things of this world while Jesus Christ and His kingdom are spiritual and eternal. Now I must say that if you didn’t know this already and moreover are now rejecting it upon reading this, well then you are precisely one of those who is likely to either persecute the church in the future, consent to it, or do nothing to stop it that I am speaking of.)

Regarding Carrie Prejean, Evangelicalism And The Culture War

Posted by Job on May 12, 2009

I recall a very recent incident where I purchased my first
Christian rap CD, certain that it would provide edifying entertainment for my
very young son during our frequent automobile trips. However, when the music
began to play, my son put his hands over his ears, and began yelling for me to
turn it off, the reason being “it sounds like the devil’s music.” Now
as I was very much enjoying the CD in question, I tried to explain to the child
that it was in fact Christian music. The child replied that he would much
rather listen to one of HIS CDs. So, the Christian rap went out, and one of his
several CDs of classic hymns, Negro spirituals and similar took its place,
which included “Standing On The Promises of God.” I confess to not having
learned the lyrics to this song, but I do remember something about “standing on
the promises that cannot fail.”

And now I find myself reading Pilgrim’s Progress by John
Bunyan for the first time. I not long ago passed the section where Christian
succumbed to the temptation of one Worldly Wiseman to depart from the hard path
given to him to the Celestial City by Evangelist and instead set out for what
was promised to be the easier path over Mount Sinai to Mr. Legality and his
handsome son civility in the nice village Morality. And this reminds me of the
Carrie Prejean tempest: this where beauty pageant contestant lost the Miss
America pageant (which is owned by Donald Trump, who considers twice divorced
prosperity preacher Paula White his friend and pastor) for speaking out against
homosexual marriage.

As a result, this Miss Prejean has found herself many
supporters in the evangelical Christian community for fighting the good fight
in the culture war, having had the privilege of such experiences as being
interviewed by James Dobson, speaking at a prominent evangelical Christian
university, and being a presenter for the Dove Awards. Miss Prejean’s Christian
advocates have presented her as an example of a bold Christian woman who has
risked and suffered in warfare.

While this is certainly true, as Prejean clearly lost the
Miss America title, was very nearly stripped of the Miss California title, and
has had explicit pictures (some that she acknowledges to be real, others that
she alleges are fake) released by those seeking to force the Miss California pageant
to strip her of her crown for violating her contract, I have to ask: what battle
is it that she is fighting anyway, and is it a worthwhile one?

Again, go back to “Standing On The Promises Of God.” God’s
promises cannot fail, which means that God’s battles cannot be lost, because in
God’s battles, it is not us that are fighting, but rather God Himself that
fights for us. So as long as remain obedient and faithful to scripture and
adhere to the things that Jesus Christ commanded of us, we cannot lose. Our
success is guaranteed, predetermined, predestined.

However, when we depart from the path, leave behind the
commandments of Jesus Christ, and start seeking our own agendas, failure is
inevitable. Oh, we may win a victory or two here and there, but it is only a
temporary fleeting battle won at a huge cost – not the least a great diversion
of prayers and works by well meaning Christians – in a war that will ultimately
be lost. The person who bears witness of this best is none other than James
Dobson, the very same who interviewed Prejean. Upon retiring from his leadership
of Focus On The Family, Dobson acknowledged that he, his organization and its
fellow travelers had lost every single battle, including that against
homosexual marriage, which will become legal in many parts of the country
within a few years. And let us never forget that the great legal victory that
made homosexual marriage possible was a court decision, Lawrence versus Texas,
given to us by a Supreme Court stacked with appointees of the very conservative
Republican presidents that Dobson and his peers spent a generation getting
Christians to not only vote but contribute, volunteer, fast and pray to get
elected in the first place. What do we know from this? As Jesus Christ promised
us that so long as remain faithful to Him and do His Will that we shall not
fail, the very failure of Dobson’s efforts, shows that Dobson and those like
him were never fighting the Lord’s battle to begin with.

And consider further the supreme irony: the biggest defeats
have come from the very people aligned with Dobson! Recall that Ronald Reagan,
when given the opportunity to appoint justices that would overturn Roe v. Wade,
instead put not one but two pro – abortion judges on the court, and George H.
W. Bush, who became president due to being the vice president of Reagan thanks
in no small part to people like Dobson, appointed a third pro – abortion judge,
and yes all three of those judges cast their votes in the Lawrence versus Texas
decision to pave the way for homosexual marriage as well.

So gentle Christians, what we should learn from this is that
Jesus Christ, God’s own Word and thereby God Himself, did not come to earth as
a human to be slain on a cross to pay the debt of original sin, in order to
redeem the culture. He did not do so in order to lend political support to any specific
nation, whether the United States or Israel, or any cause. The reason is that
cultures, nations, and causes are worldly things, and the result of the death
of Jesus Christ was to create the church, which is ekklesia in Greek, and
ekklesia means “called out.” What is the church called out of? The world and
worldly things. Instead of trying to change the world in some vain, idolatrous,
blasphemous quest to transform its sin and wickedness into the image of the
holiness and righteousness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, instead of
trying to give that which is destined to die the image of that which through
the resurrection of Jesus Christ will have eternal life, the only duty that I
have seen given through Jesus Christ and His apostles and prophets to the New
Testament church is that of saving and discipling sinners. Even the good deeds
and charitable works that Jesus Christ commanded His disciples to love our
neighbors and by this way to also love Him was towards that end; acts by which
the unsaved are reached and the saved are to learn to grow in the grace and
knowledge of our only Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Now let it be known that evangelical Christians are supposed
to be sola scriptura Protestants. After all, the term “evangelical” was taken
up as a self – descriptive one by the Protestant Reformers. So, I challenge any
sola scriptural Protestant to identify me the Bible verse that commands
Christians to put aside the work of evangelizing the world and discipling those
who by and according to the grace and prerogative of God the Father (those that
the Father gave to the Son) respond to the gospel and start working to give the
unregenerate masses the appearance of righteousness, a form of godliness that
denies the power thereof, show it to me and I will repent of this missive. If
no such verse exists – and I have never encountered it in the New Testament –
then those who continue with this behavior should cease to call themselves sola
scriptura, which means they should cease to call themselves Protestants, which
means that they should cease to call themselves evangelical, which means that
they should cease to call themselves Christians.

This is no mere doctrinal dispute. Again, Jesus Christ gave us in His Holy Spirit – inspired word promises that work done in His Name would
never fail. The end result of not only decades of the religious right but many
centuries of church – states and church – cultures has been nothing but massive
thoroughgoing failure. If you refuse to consider me to be one qualified to
speak to this matter, then heed Søren Kierkegaard; read his Attack Upon Christendom (that is if you can abide theistic existentialism long enough to). So by committing all of these
efforts to works, by fighting all of these battles, that we claim to be in the
Name of Jesus Christ, what witness does the church bear to the promises, the
veracity, the power, the faithfulness, the very Name of Jesus Christ by which
we are saved and are to overcome death, be resurrected from the dead, and
inherit the Celestial City when these things fail? When WE fail?

Because like Christian in Pilgrim’s Progress, we have abandoned
the path to the Celestial City and Mount Zion to the Morality Village, the
abode of Mr. Legality and Civility by way of Mount Sinai, that same is the way
of death. We have abandoned the counsel of the apostles, prophets and Jesus
Christ Himself for that of Worldly Wisemen politicians and hucksters, in
addition to not a few very sincere but ultimately misguided and sincere pastors
and theologians, which unfortunately included not a few of the very same
Reformers themselves, who were not long removed from the murderous yoke of the
Roman church – states themselves began drowning Anabaptists and burning
heretics. Indeed, John Bunyan himself spent twelve years in the dark prison of
a Christian nation, separated from his church and family, for the crime of preaching
the gospel.

Morality, legality and civility. Sound like “Christian
values”, “family values”, “American values”, “Judeo – Christian values”, “Judeo
– Christian heritage” and all the other buzzwords to you? It certainly sounds like
that to me. Well, those are legalism, an external righteousness of the
Pharisees, devoid of the religion of the heart that Jesus Christ gave us. It is
darkness devoid of the Light that came to this world that the darkness does not
comprehend. Of course, a person, a group, a movement, a nation can impose
morality, legality and civility for a period of time by expending no small
amount of energy or cost. Keep in mind however: such moral societies do not
have to be Christian … homosexuality, abortion, crime, divorce etc. are very
much kept under control in not a few Muslim societies, and such was also the
case in fascist regimes like those run by Pinochet and Franco. Also, a
democracy cannot maintain “moral societies” anywhere nearly as long as a
monarchy, totalitarian regime or dictatorship.

But it is only for a time. Remember Lot’s wife. Or better
yet remember the Holy Roman Empire! When Constantine allegedly converted (but in
truth began to exploit the faith for state power – including appropriating the
symbol of the Prince of Peace for warfare, a fact that we should think of when
so many evangelicals unconditionally support the war in Iraq as well as torture)
Eusebius and many other pastors and theologians of the time insisted that the
whole thing was the work of God, that Constantine’s making Christianity the
religion of the empire was part of God’s redemptive-historic plan for mankind,
and that through the Roman Empire the whole world would be subdued for Jesus
Christ. What happened? It failed. The Holy Roman Empire broke apart, falling to
the Muslims.

The reason why is that Jesus Christ did not come to earth,
conduct His ministry, die from the cross, and rise from the dead in order to
bring such things into existence. Those things are not wrapped up within the

promises of God, so they will fail. They are works of the flesh, not of the spirit, so they are vanity. You can fight it, you can delay it, but ultimately, as a dog returns to his vomit (Proverb 26:11) that which is sinful will return to sin. A system of laws and rituals can control an unregenerate person for a time, but that sinner will ultimately go back to sin just as
Pliable, Simple, Sloth, Presumption, Formalist, Hypocrisy, Mistrust, Timorous
and all the rest abandoned the true pilgrim Christian on the straight and
narrow path to the Celestial City. And as societies are by definition going to
contain large majorities of unsaved and in many instances shall be ruled by
them, they will go the same way.

This was the failure of the doctrine of the ecclesiola within
the ecclesia, the actual church within the political and cultural church-state
that was advanced in some form by Augustine (representing as he did Catholicism),
Calvin (representing church – state Protestantism) and various others, and it
is the same failure of the various modern dominionism movements -including but
certainly not limited to the religious right and some of the more robust forms
of premillennial dispensationalism and Christian Zionism – whose adherents
proclaim themselves to be taking (or taking back) cultures, nations and
ultimately the globe for Christ.

I am reminded of the words of the pastor character in Frank
Peretti’s novel The Visitation (not exactly Pilgrim’s Progress granted,
but a good read nonetheless!) who upon hearing an inexperienced and zealous
pastor state “we are taking this town for Christ” replied “not even Christ took
a town for Christ.” As Jesus Christ’s own nation, the Jews, rejected Him, what
more evidence is there that Jesus Christ did not die for a nation, a culture, a
political agenda, or any other worldly thing, but rather to redeem the church?
Now Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection did, against all odds, succeed. The
church was born, has existed for going on 2,000 years, and will live forever.
However, the failure of all of these movements proves that no matter the
sincerity, fervency, and honorable motives of many of the people who inspire
and are caught up in them, are sadly due to fail because they have no part in
Jesus Christ’s promises and thus will have no part in His resurrection.

I keep hearing Christians speak of how this can be changed
with a revival, and have taken it upon themselves to try to initiate one. They
recall how society was transformed in America and Britain through the Great
Awakenings, and long for another to happen. I remember the claims that great
outpouring of national unity and people returning to churches after September
11th 2001 may spark just such a revival, a return of this nation to
its “Christian values and heritage.” It was easy to suffer such fantasies when
George W. Bush was in office. Well, not only did George W. Bush prove to be
someone who does not believe that the Bible is literally true and the final
authority and also that Muslims and Christians (and presumably other religions
as well) all pray to the same god, but this nation is now saddled with a
president about whom no one can entertain such delusions. Alas, it was just
another failure by people who were never seeking the true Will of Jesus Christ
to begin with.

While Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefield and the other
revivalists of these awakenings may have had some state – church or state –
culture sympathies, the reason why their revivals as well as the missionary
revival started by William Carey and Adoniram Judson and before them Zinzendorf,
Spener and the Moravians succeeded was because their aim was to preach the
gospel and save souls! Their goals were not social or political but spiritual.
That was why they could not fail. They accomplished the results that they were
seeking because the results were the Lord adding to the church such as should
be saved (Acts 2:47). And yes, that verse does say THE LORD adding to the
church, not man through his own efforts doing so. Why? Because as stated
earlier … it was the Lord’s doing, the Lord’s work, the Lord’s battle to begin
with. Do the Lord’s will, and the Lord fights for you. Do your own will, and the
Lord fights against you. Do you deny this? Well then ask King Saul. His
kingdom, his portion was taken from him and given to another because he stopped
fighting the Lord’s battle the Lord’s way and started fighting his battles his
way. Instead of establishing God’s kingdom, it became about Saul’s kingdom.
When Saul’s son asked him for what cause did he seek the life of David, who had
never done any harm to Saul, King Saul cursed his son, calling him the son of a
dog, and asked “don’t you realize that as long as David lives you will never
have MY KINGDOM?” But it was never Saul’s kingdom to give. Saul and his sons
died, God’s kingdom went to David, and through the One Jesus Christ who
descended from David, it will last forever.

So, Christian, are you laboring for Mr. Legality with
Civility in the village Morality for things that, like the Holy Roman Empire,
the Reformed church – states, and Saul’s kingdom, will not last because they
are of this world and are things that Revelation 20 and 21 states will be
destroyed with fire and replaced with a new heaven and a new earth? Or are you
going to love Jesus Christ by keeping His commandments, and thereby laboring
for things that will last forever, in the Celestial City where the rust and
moth cannot destroy?

Gentle Christian, I sincerely entreat and implore you to
turn aside from all that which is pertaining to Mr. Legality, Civility, and the
village Morality … things of Sinai that will fail. Instead, join Pilgrim on the
narrow path to the Celestial City so that your works will last forever. In
closing, let me give you some words by Russell K. Carter, circa 1886.

  1. Standing on the promises of Christ
    my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.
  • Refrain:
    Standing, standing,
    Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
    Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.
  • Standing on the promises that
    cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God.
  • Standing on the promises I now can
    see
    Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God.
  • Standing on the promises of Christ
    the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God.
  • Standing on the promises I cannot
    fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call,
Resting in my Savior as my all in all,
Standing on the promises of God.

What Is The Gospel Of Jesus Christ Supposed To Transform?

Posted by Job on December 23, 2008

Well, the news breaks from Apprising Ministries that James Dobson and Focus on the Family is promoting  Mormonism. (And that they also denounce people who oppose Roman Catholicism.) Really, this is no surprise. Allow me to explain why by asking a question: what is the purpose of the gospel of Jesus Christ? Is it to transform lives by saving souls? Or is it to transform nations and cultures by spreading values and norms? Many would say that either/or is a false choice when the answer is both. What those people ignore is that so often those two goals find themselves in conflict, and when they do it is much easier and more expedient to “focus on” transforming the nation and the culture than it is getting people saved. Tending to the nation and culture is far less difficult and produces quicker, more broad based results than crawling on your belly and face over the sharp rocks on craggy cliffsides and through the thick briars and brambles trying to find that one lost sheep, and then discipling that sheep so that he doesn’t run off again. It would imagine that it pays a lot better too, even if Focus on the Family has had to resort to layoffs lately. It is easier to focus on the family than to focus on Jesus Christ and Him crucified, so any offense that results from fighting false cultural battles will be far less.

So, when the time comes that the path to salvation is not through the false gospel of Mormonism or through a Roman Catholic Church that is now teaching religious pluralism, Dobson must stand down and count such people as his allies. Why? Because Mormons and Roman Catholics have good values, and are too useful allies in the culture wars over gay marriage and abortion to turn your backs on. So instead of telling Glen Beck that he needs to repent or spend eternity in the lake of fire, Focus on the Family promotes his allegedly Christian testimony

So in times like these, the truth be told: it is not the purpose of the gospel of Jesus Christ to transform the world, which includes cultures and nations. Instead, the purpose of the gospel is to save God’s elect from the world. Evidence of this is found in the very book of Revelation that amillennialists and dominionists love to reject with a “spiritual interpretation.” Even upon His return, Jesus Christ does not transform the world. Instead, He smites it and rules it with a rod of iron. See Revelation 19:15. Why does He do this? Because the world does not submit to His rule. The world is still trying to rebel, still trying to reject the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the Sovereignty of God. That is why when Satan is released, he has no problem finding allies for his final and futile effort as recorded in Revelation 20:7-9

Even after the final rebellion of Satan is crushed and this accuser is cast into the lake of fire, Jesus Christ does not set about transforming the nations and cultures. Instead, Jesus Christ judges them, they are destroyed with fire, and there is a new heaven and a new earth. Revelation 21:1 – “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” Now the Roman Catholics have the statement which goes to the effect “world without end amen amen.” But that is not what the Bible says. The Bible clearly states in Revelation and in the other eschatological passages that this world is coming to an end. So why bother trying to transform it? Why polish the brassware of a sinking ship? That would only divert the energies from getting as many people as you can off the ship and into lifeboats. The gospel is the lifeboat. It cannot be meant as both a lifeboat and some attempt to plug the leak in the boat. Why? Because those are two aims at cross purposes. If the gospel was meant to transform the world, there would be no need to save men from it. Also, make no mistake: it was God who put the hole in the boat to begin with. Indeed, it is God Himself that will judge the world for its wickedness.

Also, if the role of the gospel is to transform the world, then the Bible itself would declare the gospel to be a failure. Why? Because the Bible makes it clear: the world is never transformed. It is never subdued. It remains wicked and rebellious to the very end. So if the gospel fails at the goal of transforming the world and the culture, of say, making the government respect the Ten Commandments and making the culture respect traditional family values, then why should the gospel succeed in saving any Christian from the eternity in the lake of fire?

This is not some bold new theological innovation here. Instead, it can be found in a simple Frank Peretti novel “The Visitation.” In it, the protagonist, a burned out pastor, is confronted with his new, eager, inexperienced replacement, and the latter states “we are taking this town for Christ.” To which, the protagonist replied “how are you going to take any town for Christ when not even Christ took a town for Christ. Have you ever asked this town if it wants to be taken for Christ?” Taking towns for Christ was never Christ’s job. Thus, transforming the world and culture was never the job of the gospel or of the church. The very Bible itself declares that the world and culture will not be transformed, so if that was ever the goal of the gospel, then the Bible which declares the gospel would declare that gospel to be a failure, making the Word of God a failure, and Jesus Christ’s going to the cross to be in vain.

The idea that it we should be trying to use the gospel to give life to things that are doomed to die instead of using the gospel so that people could be born again is a great deception. It transforms the unchangeable truth of God into a lie, and takes the all powerful all knowing God and uses His own revelation to declare Him to be weak, a failure, as if Revelation depicts God as destroying the world only after being frustrated by His many attempts to save it; that not even sacrificing His own Son on a cross and sending that Son to Personally rule the world was enough. And what could be more Satanic, more anti – Christ, than that?

So we are left with the truth that the purpose of the gospel was to transform lives, to save souls, and to spare them the judgment that awaits the nations and their cultures. And we should reject anyone who comes promoting a different aim using a different gospel that represents a different Jesus.

Bristol Palin, Murphy Brown, And The Religious Right

Posted by Job on September 4, 2008

Remember Dan Quayle’s denouncing Murphy Brown for glorifying single parenthood? Contrast this with the Republican evangelical embrace of Bristol Palin. How times change. Then again, these same Republican evangelicals could have cared less that Ronald and Nancy Reagan were necromancer occultists or that George W. Bush is a universalist so maybe times haven’t changed.

When I was a little boy attending church, one of my favorite songs was “I’m So Glad That Jesus Set Me Free.” I forget exactly how it went, but I recall portions to the effect of “Satan had me bound, but Jesus set me free” and “sin had me down but Jesus lifted me.” Of course, there were possibly HUNDREDS of variants to that song by denomination, region, tradition, etc. During the past two years, the actions of both sides of our wicked political coin in America have frequently made me smile and think “I’m So Glad That I Am Not A Religious Right Republican.” Did Jesus Christ set me free from it? You be the judge.

I honestly have to say that of all the bizarre things that I have witnessed in the not quite two years since I left the Republican Party behind for good, this Sarah Palin nonsense tops it all. The past 30 years of Republican opposition to affirmative action and identity/victim politics? GONE! The Republicans nominated a totally unqualified vice presidential candidate to pander to white women who would rather attribute Hillary Clinton’s defeat to sexism than to her own mismanaged campaign.

Even better: their past 30 years of “family and moral values?” GONE! The very same conservatives that are cheering Palin for being a role model for women were just last week demonizing career and professional women who cause irreparable harm to their children and society by putting them in daycare. And the very same moral judges who claimed that illegitimacy would be the ruin of our nation and culture are now proclaiming that the out of wedlock pregnancy of Palin’s daughter makes them like her more! It makes her more American, more identifiable with the struggles of everyday Americans! (Please note that just six months ago these same people were promoting Mitt Romney precisely BECAUSE of his perfect Mormon cult family.)

And yes, racism is a HUGE part of this. You want to know why so many blacks won’t set foot in a white evangelical church? Evil hypocrisy like this. What black person is going to go sit in pews with a bunch of white conservative so – called Christians who hate affirmative action except when it comes to white people like not only Palin but George W. Bush, whose grades were so bad that he couldn’t get into a state university law school, yet he was able to go to Harvard and Yale because of his last name? And what black person that has spent the last 30 years hearing religious right leaders and their conservative allies blame every problem in the black community on fatherlessness because it is their “get out of jail free card” from having to deal with issues like poverty, the lack of jobs, redlining, the effects of slavery and segregation, bad schools, unfair government policies (like the Department of Agriculture policies that drove thousands of black farmers out of business) now not only shirk and shrug but cheer and applaud? We all know how Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, and the rest of these people that evangelical Christians allow to advocate and represent them would act if it were Barack Hussein Obama’s daughter that was pregnant. But for Sarah Palin’s daughter, these people are demanding that “we respect her family’s privacy” and saying “they need our support and prayers.” The response from not only Dobson but even serious people like Albert Mohler, whom I respect, was “well, out of wedlock pregnancy is part of our culture now so I guess we will just have to deal with it.” Yes, these are the very same people who have for 20 years blamed every problem in the black community on our 70% illegitimacy rate and used it as an excuse for taking harsh hateful attitudes towards the poor, but when it is one of their Pentecostal social conservative political candidates, they totally change their rhetoric and attitude? So white evangelicals, if you are wanting to know why 95% of blacks won’t sit in your pews, look in the mirror and see your own racist hypocrisy. Is that unfair? Of course. But realize this: not very many black people actually KNOW that many white people personally. Blacks form their of whites largely based on what they see in the media. And if what they see in the media is a bunch of two – faced race baiting hypocritical jackals representing white evangelical Protestant Republicans who despise black inner city teen mothers on welfare but love and support themselves some Bristol Palin because her mother is a mooseburger eatin’ bear huntin’ Alaskan with traditional values? You folks know very well that if it were Obama’s daughter, not only would the public line be “this is precisely why Obama’s liberal values are wrong for our country and would harm the values of our Christian nation”, but the private line would be “see, the Obama family is just another typical black inner city bunch of ghetto (insert racial slur) … I bet his daughters will find some welfare program to get on.” (The fact that the “reformer” Palin hired lobbyists to get her tiny Alaska town MILLIONS in government subsidies … hey how’s for that western small government self – reliance?) So NOW do you understand why the black people that are going to go pull the lever for Barack Obama could care less about Jeremiah Wright when the religious right leaders are every bit as racist and their tens of millions of evangelical followers either agree with them or could care less? Quite honestly, I don’t blame black evangelicals for refusing to go to church with white evangelicals that exchange their white KKK sheets for suits (or Hawaiian T – shirts in the case of Rick Warren and similar) every Sunday.

The sad thing is that what Dan Quayle said was 100% right. And who knows, perhaps Quayle was sincere. But we now know that these so called religious right leaders as well as so many of their followers were NEVER sincere. They never cared about teen mothers or their illegitimate children. To them, it was just a political issue that they used to bash the other side. That is why these people never lifted a finger to help these people, either with their charitable good works or the tranforming power of the gospel. No, because all they cared about was having just another issue to justify being Republicans and opposing Democrats. And you see this the very instant that illegitimacy went from being a black inner city ghetto issue that they could blame on Democrats and civil rights leaders to being their own issue. Not only is the white illegitimacy rate higher today than it was in the black community when Daniel Patrick Moynihan wrote “A Nation At Risk”, but I actually read a Roman Catholic Republican blogger lament that Bristol Palin’s baby wouldn’t be born before the November election so the cute little grandma grandbaby pictures can’t be used to win over more swing voters. (Again, pictures of Michelle Obama holding her illegitimate grandchild would cause these very same people to dry heave in revulsion and start demanding new rounds of welfare reform.)

Seriously people, go and look at any of the quotes from these people like James Dobson, Pat Robertson, Tony Perkins, Gary Bauer, Rush Limbaugh, the whole lot of them, about the foolish selfish risky irresponsible choice of becoming a teen mother, and their placing a large portion of the blame on career women who did not stay at home with their kids and raise them right … feminists – excuse me feminazis – that put their own selfish ambitions over their families and harmed them as a result. Where are these people now? Calling the media sexist for saying the same thing TODAY that they were saying LAST WEEK! Are any of those people saying that they were wrong? That they were sorry? Nope. As a matter of fact, as soon as Palin is elected – and she and McCain will be – these folks will be right back to blaming the ills of our society on feminazi career women and black illegitimate welfare mothers. And the evangelical “Christians” will go right along with them.

Why? Worldliness. 1 John 2:15, people. Look it up. Also look up Romans 12:1-2, which says not to be conformed to the ways of this world. See, both political parties are corrupt, and they alternate between competing and collaborating to elect corrupt leaders to run a corrupt government. Now there may indeed be nothing wrong with Christian involvement in politics and government in and of itself. But EVERYTHING is wrong with Christians supporting corrupt policies, leaders, and systems. Why? Because it is supporting evil. Black Democrat Christians who support Obama, for instance, are willfully supporting homosexuals, abortionist murderers, and atheists. White Republican Christians who support McCain and George Bush … well guess what they are supporting the same! McCain voted against a constitutional amendment to make homosexual marriage illegal. McCain told the San Francisco Chronicle that he opposes appealing Roe v. Wade, and you also know perfectly well that he will not sign an executive order preventing taxpayer money from being used to build new abortion clinics in black neighborhoods just as Bush didn’t, Bush’s father didn’t, and Reagan didn’t, and that McCain will put pro abortion and pro homosexual judges on the bench just like Reagan, Bush, and Bush did. Yet white evangelicals vote Republican for the same reason that black evangelicals vote Democrat: the conviction that they have to choose between the lesser of two evils, which ultimately causes them to declare the lesser evil to be GOOD! Well Isaiah 5:20 says Woe to those who call evil good, and in the original Bible language and context, pronoucing woe on someone meant pronouncing their DEATH! Since these McCain and Obama evangelicals aren’t going to keel over from strokes and heart attacks on November 4 en masse when they leave the voting booth, what kind of death do you think Isaiah 5:20 is talking about here? SPIRITUAL DEATH! And I have to tell you … the people who feigned conniptions over videos of Jeremiah Wright ranting that God would punish America for its wicked policies knowing full well that religious right preachers from Frank Schaeffer to Jerry Falwell said the same thing (remember their attributing hurricanes, September 11th, etc. to gay marriage, abortion, and the ACLU?) show themselves to be spiritually dead already because of their dishonesty and hypocrisy, which was the same crime that Jesus Christ convicted the PHARISEES of.

And that is the amazing thing. You know, the LIBERALS have been right about the religious right all along. The same liberals in the New York Times, L.A. Times, Washington Post, Salon, The Nation, etc. who used to make my blood boil with anger and rage … they were right, and this Bristol Palin affair proved it. These folks NEVER cared about the gospel of Jesus Christ. They NEVER EVEN CARED about values and the culture. All they cared about was WINNING. Being in control. Getting OUR PEOPLE IN to run OUR COUNTRY. That is why these people have been willing to send the same bunch of criminals, adulterers, and closeted homosexuals to Washington year after year. It is CHRISTIANS who do this, and the reason is that they have their eyes and hearts in the world and off Jesus Christ. Dual covenant theologist Ann Coulter called liberals “Godless” when the truth is that the religious right is just as godless if not more so. How do I know this? BECAUSE THEY ARE A BUNCH OF DUAL COVENANT THEOLOGISTS! Excuse me, Susan Palin isn’t, because her church has ties to “Jews for Jesus.” But if this woman believes that people who criticize Bush and vote for Kerry are going to hell, and that sending our soldiers into Iraq and securing a bunch of corporate welfare for her state is doing the will of God, THEN WHICH JESUS ARE THESE JEWS FOR”? I will tell you: not my Jesus, and not the Jesus of the Bible. All these people are doing is bringing Jews out of one false religion and into another! Why? Because Jesus Christ would have never supported evil just because that evil was on the Democratic or Republican ticket!

Now I am not saying that all these people are going to the lake of fire. Nobody is perfect, there is none without sin. But some examination is in order here to see if these people are still in the faith. How many of these same evangelicals were raising money to try to defeat John McCain in his Senate primary not long ago? How many of these same evangelicals were willing to hand this nation over to the Mitt Romney Mormon cult because of his family values? How many evangelicals that are completely ignoring rumors of McCain’s marital infidelity spent years angrily denouncing the same about Bill Clinton before they even heard of Monica Lewinsky? Answer: the same number of black evangelicals who shifted Bill Clinton from being their great liberator in January 2008 to being an Arkansas Klansman in February 2008. You call yourselves Bible – believing Christians … well don’t you believe the book of James when it says that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways and let not such a man think that he will receive anything from the Lord?

So you generation of vipers, how can you avoid the wrath that is to come? Simple. REJECT WORLDLINESS. Not just in the political context. Reject it all! The world is fallen, evil, and wicked, ruled by Satan, the prince of the powers of the air. It will be destroyed by fire on the great glorious day of the Lord and replaced by a new heaven and new earth free of wickedness. So what is it going to be, evangelical, whether black or white, Democrat or Republican, McCain supporter or Obama hypocrite? Are you going to be of God and partake in the new creation? Or are you going to be of the world and get destroyed with it?

I know full well that had I not broken with the GOP the day after election day in 2006 because the Republicans lost control of Congress after 12 years having done absolutely nothing of substance on abortion, I would be supporting the Republicans in their lying hypocrisy with Palin at this very second. I would be supporting their wicked perversions and thereby being just as wicked and perverse myself, all the while declaring myself to be a born again Holy Spirit filled anointed sanctified Bible believing Christian. Why? Because of my love of the world which would cause me to reject God’s righteousness. But you know what? Jesus Christ set me free!

So I am asking, begging, pleading, PRAYING for all Christians, no matter your race or political beliefs, to do the same. Can you be a liberal and be a Christian? Sure! But you CANNOT be a person that supports EVIL and opposes THE BIBLE and be a Christian. Period. I am not talking about what you do in the ballot box. I am talking about the contents of your own heart. Is it a heart that desires to consistently represent and support God’s righteousness, or one that is filled with hypocrisy, compromise, and double standards that causes you to actually hold the Pentecostal Bristol Palin to a LOWER STANDARD than the black liberation theology Malia and Sasha Obama? (Or for blacks, holding racist Jeremiah Wright to a LOWER STANDARD than the white Southern Baptist pastor down the street?)

The sexual immorality that resulted in Bristol Palin’s pregnancy is indeed sinful and regrettable, but hypocrisy will send many more Christians to the lake of fire for eternity than fornication. Think about it, Christians, and examine yourselves to see whether you still be in the faith. This missive primarily dealt with contemporary politics, but it is applicable to all areas of life just as worldliness is.

John McCain’s First Wife: Insight For EVANGELICALS On Why He Left Her

Posted by Job on June 9, 2008

First off, the Daily Telegraph, a liberal British paper, made the headline, not me. But since the religious right media isn’t going to tell you about this, we have to get our news from somewhere. By the way: this is merely the first of a bunch of stories about McCain’s personal background that is going to come out. And you can bet that none of the Christian news services or outlets that are wedded to and bought and owned by the Republican Party, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Center For National Policy, and similar groups are going to be the ones to tell their evangelical charges about it, just as you have never heard from any of those people about the things that George W. Bush really does.

The wife U.S. Republican John McCain callously left behind

Now that Hillary Clinton has at last formally withdrawn from the race for the White House, the eyes of America and the world will focus on Barack Obama and his Republican rival Senator John McCain.

While Obama will surely press his credentials as the embodiment of the American dream – a handsome, charismatic young black man who was raised on food stamps by a single mother and who represents his country’s future – McCain will present himself as a selfless, principled war hero whose campaign represents not so much a battle for the presidency of the United States, but a crusade to rescue the nation’s tarnished reputation.

McCain likes to illustrate his moral fibre by referring to his five years as a prisoner-of-war in Vietnam. And to demonstrate his commitment to family values, the 71-year-old former US Navy pilot pays warm tribute to his beautiful blonde wife, Cindy, with whom he has four children.

But there is another Mrs McCain who casts a ghostly shadow over the Senator’s presidential campaign. She is seldom seen and rarely written about, despite being mother to McCain’s three eldest children.

And yet, had events turned out differently, it would be she, rather than Cindy, who would be vying to be First Lady. She is McCain’s first wife, Carol, who was a famous beauty and a successful swimwear model when they married in 1965.

She was the woman McCain dreamed of during his long incarceration and torture in Vietnam’s infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison and the woman who faithfully stayed at home looking after the children and waiting anxiously for news.

But when McCain returned to America in 1973 to a fanfare of publicity and a handshake from Richard Nixon, he discovered his wife had been disfigured in a terrible car crash three years earlier. Her car had skidded on icy roads into a telegraph pole on Christmas Eve, 1969. Her pelvis and one arm were shattered by the impact and she suffered massive internal injuries.

When Carol was discharged from hospital after six months of life-saving surgery, the prognosis was bleak. In order to save her legs, surgeons had been forced to cut away huge sections of shattered bone, taking with it her tall, willowy figure. She was confined to a wheelchair and was forced to use a catheter.

Through sheer hard work, Carol learned to walk again. But when John McCain came home from Vietnam, she had gained a lot of weight and bore little resemblance to her old self. Today, she stands at just 5ft4in and still walks awkwardly, with a pronounced limp. Her body is held together by screws and metal plates and, at 70, her face is worn by wrinkles that speak of decades of silent suffering.

For nearly 30 years, Carol has maintained a dignified silence about the accident, McCain and their divorce. But last week at the bungalow where she now lives at Virginia Beach, a faded seaside resort 200 miles south of Washington, she told The Mail on Sunday how McCain divorced her in 1980 and married Cindy, 18 years his junior and the heir to an Arizona brewing fortune, just one month later.

Carol insists she remains on good terms with her ex-husband, who agreed as part of their divorce settlement to pay her medical costs for life. ‘I have no bitterness,’ she says. ‘My accident is well recorded. I had 23 operations, I am five inches shorter than I used to be and I was in hospital for six months. It was just awful, but it wasn’t the reason for my divorce. ‘My marriage ended because John McCain didn’t want to be 40, he wanted to be 25. You know that happens…it just does.’

Some of McCain’s acquaintances are less forgiving, however. They portray the politician as a self-centred womaniser who effectively abandoned his crippled wife to ‘play the field’. They accuse him of finally settling on Cindy, a former rodeo beauty queen, for financial reasons.

McCain was then earning little more than £25,000 a year as a naval officer, while his new father-in-law, Jim Hensley, was a multi-millionaire who had impeccable political connections.

He first met Carol in the Fifties while he was at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. He was a privileged, but rebellious scion of one of America’s most distinguished military dynasties – his father and grandfather were both admirals.

But setting out to have a good time, the young McCain hung out with a group of young officers who called themselves the ‘Bad Bunch’. His primary interest was women and his conquests ranged from a knife-wielding floozy nicknamed ‘Marie, the Flame of Florida’ to a tobacco heiress.

Carol fell into his fast-living world by accident. She escaped a poor upbringing in Philadelphia to become a successful model, married an Annapolis classmate of McCain’s and had two children – Douglas and Andrew – before renewing what one acquaintance calls ‘an old flirtation’ with McCain. It seems clear she was bowled over by McCain’s attention at a time when he was becoming bored with his playboy lifestyle.

‘He was 28 and ready to settle down and he loved Carol’s children,’ recalled another Annapolis graduate, Robert Timberg, who wrote The Nightingale’s Song, a bestselling biography of McCain and four other graduates of the academy.

The couple married and McCain adopted Carol’s sons. Their daughter, Sidney, was born a year later, but domesticity was clearly beginning to bore McCain – the couple were regarded as ‘fixtures on the party circuit’ before McCain requested combat duty in Vietnam at the end of 1966.

He was assigned as a bomber pilot on an aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin. What follows is the stuff of the McCain legend. He was shot down over Hanoi in October 1967 on his 23rd mission over North Vietnam and was badly beaten by an angry mob when he was pulled, half-drowned from a lake. Over the next five-and-a-half years in the notorious Hoa Loa Prison he was regularly tortured and mistreated.

It was in 1969 that Carol went to spend the Christmas holiday – her third without McCain – at her parents’ home. After dinner, she left to drop off some presents at a friend’s house. It wasn’t until some hours later that she was discovered, alone and in terrible pain, next to the wreckage of her car. She had been hurled through the windscreen. After her first series of life-saving operations, Carol was told she may never walk again, but when doctors said they would try to get word to McCain about her injuries, she refused, insisting: ‘He’s got enough problems, I don’t want to tell him.’

    H. Ross Perot, a billionaire Texas businessman, future presidential candidate and advocate of prisoners of war, paid for her medical care. When McCain – his hair turned prematurely white and his body reduced to little more than a skeleton – was released in March 1973, he told reporters he was overjoyed to see Carol again. But friends say privately he was ‘appalled’ by the change in her appearance. At first, though, he was kind, assuring her: ‘I don’t look so good myself. It’s fine.’

He bought her a bungalow near the sea in Florida and another former PoW helped him to build a railing so she could pull herself over the dunes to the water. ‘I thought, of course, we would live happily ever after,’ says Carol. But as a war hero, McCain was moving in ever-more elevated circles.

Through Ross Perot, he met Ronald Reagan, then Governor of California. A sympathetic Nancy Reagan took Carol under her wing. But already the McCains’ marriage had begun to fray. ‘John started carousing and running around with women,’ said Robert Timberg.

McCain has acknowledged that he had girlfriends during this time, without going into details. Some friends blame his dissatisfaction with Carol, but others give some credence to her theory of a mid-life crisis. He was also fiercely ambitious, but it was clear he would never become an admiral like his illustrious father and grandfather and his thoughts were turning to politics.

In 1979 – while still married to Carol – he met Cindy at a cocktail party in Hawaii. Over the next six months he pursued her, flying around the country to see her. Then he began to push to end his marriage. Carol and her children were devastated. ‘It was a complete surprise,’ says Nancy Reynolds, a former Reagan aide. ‘They never displayed any difficulties between themselves. I know the Reagans were quite shocked because they loved and respected both Carol and John.’

Another friend added: ‘Carol didn’t fight him. She felt her infirmity made her an impediment to him. She justified his actions because of all he had gone through. She used to say, “He just wants to make up for lost time.”’ Indeed, to many in their circle the saddest part of the break-up was Carol’s decision to resign herself to losing a man she says she still adores.

Friends confirm she has remained friends with McCain and backed him in all his campaigns. ‘He was very generous to her in the divorce but of course he could afford to be, since he was marrying Cindy,’ one observed. McCain transferred the Florida beach house to Carol and gave her the right to live in their jointly-owned townhouse in the Washington suburb of Alexandria. He also agreed to pay her alimony and child support.

A former neighbour says she subsequently sold up in Florida and Washington and moved in 2003 to Virginia Beach. He said: ‘My impression was that she found the new place easier to manage as she still has some difficulties walking.’ Meanwhile McCain moved to Arizona with his new bride immediately after their 1980 marriage. There, his new father-in-law gave him a job and introduced him to local businessmen and political powerbrokers who would smooth his passage to Washington via the House of Representatives and Senate.

And yet despite his popularity as a politician, there are those who won’t forget his treatment of his first wife. Ted Sampley, who fought with US Special Forces in Vietnam and is now a leading campaigner for veterans’ rights, said: ‘I have been following John McCain’s career for nearly 20 years. I know him personally. There is something wrong with this guy and let me tell you what it is – deceit.

‘When he came home and saw that Carol was not the beauty he left behind, he started running around on her almost right away. Everybody around him knew it. ‘Eventually he met Cindy and she was young and beautiful and very wealthy. At that point McCain just dumped Carol for something he thought was better.

‘This is a guy who makes such a big deal about his character. He has no character. He is a fake. If there was any character in that first marriage, it all belonged to Carol.’

One old friend of the McCains said: ‘Carol always insists she is not bitter, but I think that’s a defence mechanism. She also feels deeply in his debt because in return for her agreement to a divorce, he promised to pay for her medical care for the rest of her life.’

Carol remained resolutely loyal as McCain’s political star rose. She says she agreed to talk to The Mail on Sunday only because she wanted to publicise her support for the man who abandoned her. Indeed, the old Mercedes that she uses to run errands displays both a disabled badge and a sticker encouraging people to vote for her ex-husband. ‘He’s a good guy,’ she assured us. ‘We are still good friends. He is the best man for president.’

But Ross Perot, who paid her medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel – even by the standards of modern politics. ‘McCain is the classic opportunist. He’s always reaching for attention and glory,’ he said. ‘After he came home, Carol walked with a limp. So he threw her over for a poster girl with big money from Arizona. And the rest is history.’

Keep in mind: these same liberals held these details from the American people during the eight years that they were building him up as the foil for George W. Bush. Now that the globalist elite wants Obama to follow in the footsteps of Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush, they are letting the cat out of the bag. It will be curious to see what the “conservatives” that spent eight years oh so offended at the behavior of one William Jefferson Clinton despite knowing full well that Washington D.C. is nothing but one big bathhouse and cesspool are going to say now.

Mormon Mitt Romney Saw His Father March With Martin Luther King With The Same Eye Of Faith That Joseph Smith’s Followers Saw The Plates Of Nephi

In other words, Mitt Romney never saw his father march with Martin Luther King, Jr. (see link) just as Joseph Smith’s followers (see link) never saw the plates of Nephi. Why? Because just as Mitt Romney’s father never marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. for Mitt Romney to see it, freemason Joseph Smith was never given any plates of Nephi by any angel for anyone else to see. Quite simply, Mitt Romney was lying just like Joseph Smith’s cohorts were lying. And in each case, the context makes it even worse. In the original case, Joseph Smith’s followers claimed to have LITERALLY seen the plates of Nephi because no one was going to follow a movement based on unconfirmed revelation to a single individual. The men, as such, used their false witness to lend credibility to the notion that Joseph Smith had actually received revelation and was a true prophet of God. It was only after Mormonism had attracted thousands of people that had given up everything and dedicated their lives to the new religion that Joseph Smith’s guarantors acknowledged that, well, seeing doesn’t mean SEEING.

And yes, Mitt Romney’s denial has everything to do with his religion as well. In order to prevent from having to answer questions about the racist doctrines of his religion, he claimed to have seen his father marching with Martin Luther King, Jr. If Romney says that his church was wrong, then he is calling his religion a lie, because the racist teachings of Mormonism were not false doctrines coming from willful misinterpretation of scriptures done by sinful men in their rebellion against God (the case in Christianity with people claiming that the Nehemiah narrative is an example of God forbidding the races from intermarrying when the truth is that the case was over RELIGION and not race, since the people that the Israelites were forbidden from marrying were members of the same near eastern Semitic race as the Israelis, and one of the benefits of circumcision was being able to tell Jews from Gentiles among groups of people that were visually – meaning RACIALLY – indistinguishable) but revelations given by the Mormon god to Mormon prophets. Romney can only say that the racist policies were removed over time, most notably with the priesthood decision in 1978. He cannot say that the policies were wrong to begin with, because that would be claiming that the Mormon god is -and can be – wrong. And that was the reason for claiming to have personally seen his father march with Martin Luther King. Check this excerpt:

Romney has repeated the story of his father marching with King in some of his most prominent presidential campaign appearances, including the “Tonight” show with Jay Leno in May, his address on faith and politics Dec. 6 in Texas, and on NBC’s “Meet The Press” on Sunday, when he was questioned about the Mormon Church’s ban on full participation by black members. He said that he had cried in his car in 1978 when he heard the ban had ended, and added, “My father marched with Martin Luther King.”

Mitt Romney went a step further in a 1978 interview with the Boston Herald. Talking about the Mormon Church and racial discrimination, he said: “My father and I marched with Martin Luther King Jr. through the streets of Detroit.”

In our current society, personal experience trumps everything, and as such can be used to silence debate. The best part about this whole deal is that even in having to confess that he is a liar Romney still wins. Why? Because the attention is now on the fact that Romney lied, not on whether Romney believes that the racist rantings of Joseph Smith and other Mormon prophets and apostles were ever actually inspired by the Mormon god. Pretty good huh? You don’t build an elite investment capital firm, get elected to governor of Massachusetts as a social liberal, and then become a frontrunner in the GOP presidential race thanks in large part to the support of many socially conservative evangelical Christians by being bad at what George W. Bush calls strategery.

Yet the Republican Party is demanding that evangelical Christians support Mitt Romney because he is such a nice honest trustworthy person with such great Christian values. Well, hey, it may well be true! Not the nice honest trustworthy part, but the great Christian values thing. Who am I to deny that Mitt Romney has excellent Christian values? Christian values are the stuff of a universalist works religion. My religion is an exclusive sola fide one. So to all of you Roman Catholics, Mormons, high stakes gambling Bill Bennett Republicans, and Rick Warren Purpose Driven types, you can keep your Christian values, I don’t need them, because it appears that you can still have great Christian, excuse me Judeo – Christian, values while being a filthy liar and a member of what everyone knows is a cult. So long as he can keep an anti – globalist establishment candidate out of the White House, Mormon Mitt Romney could be a virgin – sacrificing druid for all they care.

Now Judeo – Roman Catholic neoconservative globalist warmonger central, the National Review, is claiming that Mormon Mitt Romney’s being exposed as a liar is actually GOOD because it shows that his father supported civil rights. (Never mind that supporting civil rights in the secular arena and thinking that your “prophets” and “scriptures” are false for claiming that blacks are the cursed seed of Ham and were given black skin because we were failures in pre – existence are two totally different things.) Of course, these folks probably feel that Martin Luther King, Jr. had great Christian values despite not believing in the virgin birth, resurrection, or deity of Jesus Christ. If they do, hey, who am I to disagree?

Now Christians, though I strongly advise against voting for Mormon Mitt Romney, I am not going to say that doing so will fill you full of demons and take you to the lake of fire for eternity. I do say, though, that following this “Christian values” movement (and keep in mind there is a right wing and a left wing Christian values movement that at their core are pretty much the same, possessing a form of godliness but denying the power thereof) might have that effect.

Values – Based Pseudo – Christianity: Christmas in Mayberry

Posted by Job on December 19, 2007

Another excellent piece from Slice of Laodicea going against one of my common themes, the “family values” lie:

    Church Has Christmas in Mayberry

Christmas in Bethlehem is apparently out of vogue. A church in Lodi, California is putting on Christmas in Mayberry. Yes, the guy with the ponytail pinned up in the news photo is supposed to be Sheriff Andy Taylor. Apparently other churches are also doing the play. The article reports on Barney Fife writing Andy a parking ticket in the stage show and Otis giving up booze for a “Celebrate Recovery” group, but somehow, Jesus doesn’t show up in the news article. Perhaps he doesn’t show up in the play either. A lot of churches today don’t really need Jesus because they are content with good, solid, Mayberry-style family values instead. Unlike Jesus, generic family values and a generic “faith” offends nobody. It’s only Jesus Christ who is the stumbling block today.

I think it’s ironic that when the Andy Griffith show was being filmed and watched on American television, the culture war/sexual revolution of the 1960’s was already underway. The race riots in Los Angeles were going on just a few blocks from the studios from the studio where the Mayberry set was. If we learned anything from the 1960’s, it should have been that nice, family values—a form of godliness without the power—is never enough. The Baby Boom generation, raised with conventional morality mixed with rampant materialism, rebelled big time. Their parents wanted them to be nice boys and girls, but they failed to tell them why. They tried to impose middle-class morality without teaching them the fear of the Lord and immersing them in His Word. Look what happened when Jesus Christ got left out.

Churches today that are staging Mayberry shows instead of retelling the ancient story of the Incarnation are making a terrible mistake. Jesus didn’t come to make us nicer people, to give us middle class morality and a respectable, family-values America. Jesus left the splendor of heaven and the adoration of the Seraphim to come to a sin-sick world, to die on a bloody cross in our place because of our sin. He came to triumph once and for all over sin, death and hell, to rise triumphantly from the grave and ascend into heaven as our glorified Lord. Amen. Why would this church use a tired 60’s sitcom to entertain crowds when they have the old, old story of Redemption and the glorious words of Scripture with which to tell it?

I won’t be having Christmas in Mayberry, now or ever. I want to make the journey to Bethlehem in my heart this Advent and kneel before that manger as the shepherds once did. O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!

I am reminded of the old hymn, “Thy Manger is My Paradise”.

Article: Christmas Was Opposed By Protestants Until It Became Capitalist And Secular

Posted by Job on December 18, 2007

When it was a religious holiday, Christians rejected it as paganism. But when it became a secular “family values” holiday associated with status and wealth, it was embraced. How odd. How American.
