How The Teachings Of Jesus Christ Destroy The Prosperity Doctrine

Posted by Job on September 20, 2010

This is frustrating, but I can’t get the link to play in this post. So please listen to it here instead.

A Question For Christians: Should Battered Wives Leave Their Husbands?

Posted by Job on November 21, 2009

I would like to hear a scriptural response on this topic. It can also be expanded to include wives whose husbands are abusing their children. I wish for it to cover two areas.

1. Remaining with the abusive husband versus separation.

2. Permanent separation versus temporary conditional separation.

3. Separation versus seeking a legal divorce.

Of course, according to scripture a wife is free to divorce a husband who sexually abuses his children according to the specific explicit statement of Jesus Christ in Matthew 19:9 (“fornication” in the King James Version should instead be translated as “sexual immorality). I would also assert that a woman is free to divorce a husband who rapes her according to the same specific statement. However, I am unaware of a specific explicit statement on the matter of divorce in the case of physical violence. I would like for anyone who can make a sound Biblical case on the matter that divorce is acceptable for wives who are being physically abused to make it.

I also have the opinion that separation is a completely different matter from divorce, and that a husband or wife can separate if there is a compelling reason (i.e. not being done capriciously or as a manipulation tactic), and that abuse of any sort towards a spouse or child is obviously a compelling reason, as is (for example) addiction to drugs or alcohol.

This is a very difficult topic, so I would like to hear Biblical opinions on the issue. Thank you.

Sex Sells Especially In The Church: Bishop Thomas Weeks III To Use Reality Show To Find Next Adultery Partner Excuse Me Wife

Posted by Job on September 19, 2008

Now this is talking the pulpit game to the next level. Christians must pray and intercede for the church daily! Of course, I am awaiting the first “judge not”, “touch not mine anointed and do my prophet no harm”, “instead of criticizing them why not pray for them” and “what positive are you doing for the kingdom of heaven/how many people have you healed of sickness or gotten baptized”, “how many skeletons do you have in your closet”, “Christians need unity instead of all this division”, “let he who is without sin cast the first stone”, “let the wheat and tares grow together” replies. People, “Bishop” Weeks III is not a Christian. He is a deceiver, an apostate who preaches abominable heresies. He has no respect or love for God or for the Body of Christ. Do not follow him. There are plenty of good decent respectable pastors out there preaching and teaching sound doctrine and practice and living it in their own example. Pick one, and leave reprobates like this man to their eternal fates. By the way … why did I state that this man is seeking another adultery partner? Because Bynum was his second “wife” and now he is looking for #3. Read what your New Testament says about the topic of divorce and figure it out.

Bishop Weeks looking for a new wife after Bynum

The recent ex-hubby of national evangelist Juanita Bynum is looking for love again — this time on his own reality show. Bishop Thomas W. Weeks III, head of Duluth-based Global Destiny International Ministries, wants a new wife to mend his broken heart. And he’s skipping the usual path to romance: chance meetings, singles mixers, social networking, speeding dating, fix-ups. (Or repentance, fasting, meditation on the word of God, and prayer.)

He is seeking advice from his followers. This time, Weeks intends to get it right. He will be documenting his efforts to open his heart to love again in 10 streaming video “Webisodes” starting next Tuesday on his Web site www.bishopweeks.com. The idea came after Weeks was flooded with thousands of e-mails and letters from people offering advice about what to look for in his third wife. Some even offered to be his wife. “There are some very adamant women,” says Weeks associate, Minister Guy Reeves of Global Destiny. “A lady from Belgium flew all the way here to meet him. She came to the campus. She wanted to be the next Mrs. Weeks like many others who have approached me about their strong desire to be Bishop Weeks’ wife.”

Weeks is opening his life to his followers so they can get a Christian perspective on dating and coping with the desire for intimacy. “What kind of advice would you give me about the new Mrs. Weeks?” he asks on a Web site promo of the episode. “We will probably find in due time who is that perfect woman for me,” Weeks says. “This time I’m not going to limit it just to the local church … It’s a global ministry. We’ve got to have a global search.” Weeks is opening his life to his followers so they can get a Christian perspective on dating and coping with the desire for intimacy. (So people struggling with feelings of lust are going to get advice from this fellow? If that is not the blind leading the blind … and needless to say his “perspective” will not be any more Christian or biblical than his “Teach Me How To Love You” conference$.)

Weeks is still serving probation for the August 2007 attack on his ex-wife Bynum. He was charged with aggravated assault as a first offender and has completed the required community service hours and anger management counseling. Weeks hopes to wed again someday. His Webisodes, however, won’t be an open call for a wife like typical reality dating shows. But if women send love letters — they will likely be shared. (What the Bible says about being modest and conscientious? Ah, who cares, obeying the Bible is for people who lack an anointing, right?) As for his standards, Weeks says the next Mrs. Weeks “can’t be ugly. She has to be easy on the eyes.” (There you go, Weeks. Let everyone know up front without a shadow of a doubt what you are all about: lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. In other words, LUST AND PRIDE. This way, your followers cannot claim to be deceived, and are without excuse.)

While Tonex Is Apostate The Wife That He Discarded Is Fighting The Good Fight!

Posted by Job on August 23, 2008

Another update from Gay Christian Movement Watch. Please note that we are seeing more and more of the evil of the evangelical religious right hero Ronald Reagan. First, the fellow signs into law the nation’s most liberal abortion measure BEFORE Roe v. Wade. Then, he appoints a bunch of socially liberal judges to the California bench, and does the same with the federal and Supreme Courts. Then, I find out that the fellow was nothing but a mole for the Vatican, implementing their agenda in the United States. Part of that agenda was the amnesty for illegal immigrants program, and increasing globalization. And now, it comes that he signs a no – fault divorce law in California, helping set the stage for the gay rights movement today (high divorce rates among heterosexuals has been one of the most effective rhetorical devices for gay rights activists). And not only was his wife a necromancer, but he himself participated in some of her “psychic readings.” And no, Reagan did not propose a law OR push an executive order to stop federal dollars from going to Planned Parenthood either. Nor did he lift a finger to help Operation Rescue as the media, courts, and politicians were destroying it. My goodness, if Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, or any other Democrat had done one tenth of this wickedness these same religious right phonies would be shouting it from the rooftoops! It is past time that Christians start challenging our brothers and sisters, pastors and leaders over their continued affection for Reagan.

Ex-wife of Tonex: gay marriage part of satan’s agenda

Very interesting article written by Yvette (Graham) Williams (pictured at left with Tonex in 2002), the former Mrs. Tonex. Yvette was divorced from Tonex in 2005 and has since focused on recovering and speaking out against divorce. This is an excerpt from a larger article entitled “Satan’s agenda exposed.”   Although the article uses strong language to rebuke divorce among God’s people, Williams highlights the proliferation of homosexual marriage as an example of what we can expect as continue to lower the standards and disobey God’s Word.  It is reflects the same syllogism of Romans 1. The peice was written in late 2007, but is very insightful and sound, especially in light of her former husband’s now growing embrace of homosexuality and the gay christian movement.

Satan’s next move was covered under the cloth of equal rights and privileges for homosexuals.  He wanted the stage appropriate set homosexuality’s place of prominence and in an effort to garner acceptance by voluntary action or by force, coalitions of gays and lesbians began rallying for equal rights to live as they chose and have the laws of America say so.  I am not going into great details on how they’ve maneuvered their way in to prominence through coalition building and joining their voices to gain attention from political powers, you can research this on your own.  What I will say is their collective initiatives and Babel-like intention to build their tower of strength has become the foundation from which they stand on major platforms and demand political attention including the legal rights to live as they please and have the same benefits as those of heterosexuals.  So, as you can see, Satan is patient but persistent in waging his war against marriage as we know God intended!

Let’s look at the pawns he uses next in his ploy to overthrown heterosexual marriages: celebrities and other people of renown.  Satan knows the power of media and celebrity. He is the master of imagery, and understanding human nature and the psyche of people, he knows men and woman of all ages are intrinsically influenced by the media and what popular people are wearing, saying and doing.  Whether we believe it or not, media influences the way people live and the decisions they make, and unless each of us takes care to pay attention to our thoughts and intentions, we too walk that fine line of crossing over into living our lives in accordance with the ways of television’s elite; this includes the lifestyles of politicians, sports personalities, actors, musicians and singers who are constantly seen in front of the camera.

Having celebrities come out the closet and pronounce their lifestyle brings more attention to Satan’s idea of garnering equal rights and privileges and ultimately the right for same-sex couples to marry.  In an article titled Lesbian Life, from online website About.com, it listed women from politicians to sports persons, television personalities, etc., who have announced they are lesbian to the world.  Ellen DeGeneres (actor/talk show host) came out in 1996 just after playing a lesbian role on TV, she was promoted to now have her own talk show, Rosie O’Donnell (actor/talk show host) came out in part to help fight for the rights of gay and lesbian partners, Melissa Etheridge (singer) came out in 1993 at the Presidential Inauguration, Nelly Furtado (singer) came out as bisexual and wants her own gay pride parade, Colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer is the highest ranking military official to come out while in the service and there are many others.  On this same website, an article, The Hottest Gay Celebrities listed men who have come out of the closet, including Randy Harrison (actor) who played a gay coming of age role in the movie “Queer as Folk”, Kyan Douglas (grooming guru) of the popular TV show, “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”, Nate Berkus (decorator), often seen and has the stamp of approval from Oprah and his segment, on Oprah’s Decorate With Nate, and others.  These celebrity television appearances and coming out of the closet moments have proven positive motivation for towards the enemy’s ultimate goal and to the dismay of the Body of Christ, but what’s more palatable to his appetite is the parade of failed heterosexual marriages.  He just sinks his teeth into showcasing the fact that heterosexual marriages aren’t working so why not give same-sex marriages a go.”

Satan’s Agenda Exposed- By Yvette Williams

 Satan’s Agenda Exposed

October 31, 2007

By:  Yvette Williams

As Christians, we know the scripture backwards and forward that says the devil is crafty and cunning and goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.  We know that he is subtle and is a seducer of the feebleminded, simple and those who are not on guard against his wiles.  As the Body of Christ, I see his agenda is to destroy what God calls honorable; marriage!  He said in his sight marriage is honorable and the bed undefiled.  Satan is anti-God and any God-institution established.  That being the case, I wonder why aren’t we more vigilant in fighting for the family, for marriages and to retain a voice of reason in the world.  We have spent enough time fighting over doctrines, over women wearing make-up and pants in the church pews and over denominational differences.  If the common denominator is Jesus Christ that should be enough for the whole body to come together and put its strengths and focus where needed.  I suggest we focus on restoration of the sacredness of marriage between a man and a woman because clearly the enemy is out to establish marriage between same sexes and (forgive my Ebonics) that ain’t right!

Satan wants marriage as we know it today, between a man and a woman to be done away with or at best have same-sex marriage as viable option.  He wants to introduce as a way of life, same-sex marriages to go along side of God’s institution and he has carefully marked out his plans for seeing his agenda rise above God’s order.  You ask how, I’ll give you some things to consider how he has carefully mapped out his strategy and how we have been either oblivious to it or avoided it as an option altogether, after all, God would never let that happen.  Satan is brilliant…He has taken the opportunity to stage his fight carefully, first with making divorce easier to come by whereby weakening the institution of marriage itself.  His next move, disguised under the mask of prejudice and the need for acceptance of all races and lifestyles, he’d introduce the need to make homosexuality legal and from there popularize homosexuality as the “in thing” by encouraging people to “come out the closet” in public and the next major blow he imagined was maximizing the media attention on divorces of heterosexual greats.

In 1953 Oklahoma became the first state to introduce ‘no-fault divorce’, and in 1970 then-Governor Ronald Reagan signed no-fault divorce into law in California; from there most other states followed suit.  Here’s some interesting information about California’s no-fault law.  It was drafted by Assemblyman, James Hayes.  According to Judy Parejko, author of Stolen Vows: The Illusion of No-Fault Divorce and the Rise of the American Divorce Industry, Assemblyman Hayes “was responsible for doggedly pursuing [the no-fault divorce] bill because he was facing a divorce and he didn’t like the rules at the time.  Today we’d call the conflict of interest but clearly, his agenda was to change the rules to benefit his personal dilemma.  It became too easy for people to walk away from their marriages with no grounds other than they no longer wanted the marriage.  With this law coming into play, Satan had the foot hole he so desperately needed to etch his way in to make his next move.

According to The Journal of Marriage and the Family, the divorce rate soared by 250% over a twenty-year period from 1960 to 1980 and I believe the implications for this increase was the passing of the ‘no fault divorce’ law in almost all of the united states of America.

He just sinks his teeth into showcasing the fact that heterosexual marriages aren’t working so why not give same-sex marriages a go.

Clearly, Satan has reared his ugly head again with the very public demise of two powerful marriages in Christendom.  Thursday, August 23, 2007, Randy and Paula White announced to their approximately 23,000 member church their plan to divorce.  Citing no third parties on either side that resulted in their collective decision, they explained that they’ve just grown apart and thus the reason they are divorcing.  Friday, September 7, 2007, Juanita Bynum announces she filed for divorce from her husband of five years after an alleged brutal attack by her estranged husband, Bishop Thomas Weeks III on the night of August 23rd.  Bynum and Weeks were noted to have been separated for 3 months prior to this event. Both couples have great ministries, with followers of every race, age and denomination attending their churches and conferences.

Both of these couples are renowned in both Christendom and in the secular world for what they say, do and preach.  They are public figures seen on television and heard over the radio and how they live their lives directly affects their followers and the secular world watching them.  How their marriages have ended is a target for proponents of same sex marriage who will use their divorces as leverage to garner rights for gays and lesbians to marry.  After all, how can the church protest and tell law makers, politicians and proponents of same sex marriage that same-sex marriage is wrong when their heterosexual marriages are ending in divorce by as much as 50 percent or more?

We have got to get our voice back.  We have got to regain our composure as the Body of Christ and realize God loves and established the institution of marriage.  We can no longer diminish the voice of reason, the voice of the church to rebut against homosexuality and same-sex marriage by allowing the demise of marriages to continue.  As a whole, we must repent, turn around and take a stand and fight again for marriage.  The church as a whole and people individually must take a stand and engage in warfare that includes a balanced mix of prayer and work towards health marriages.  We must pray for marriages.  Couples actively working at having healthy relationships are key components to waging an effective war!  Let the war begin today to combat the enemy of God’s institution of marriage.  Married couples, work on your marriage!  You have the power within you to have a great marriage but it takes the power of two to make it happen!

While Campaigning in Kentucky Hillary Clinton Hears Sermon On Infidelity

Posted by Job on May 19, 2008

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/05/19/campaigning-in-kentucky-clinton-hears-sermon-on-infidelity

From the article, it took place in a United Methodist Church. “What was likely less of a treat was Pastor Paul Fryman’s sermon she heard Sunday morning at Bowling Green’s State Street United Methodist Church on marriage and adultery entitled “When the Devil Whispers Over Your Shoulder.” Pastor Fryman launched into his sermon with Matthew 5, verse 27, “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Clinton did not speak at the service, nor was she recognized at any point from those on the altar, instead sitting quietly in the second pew praying and singing along with the rest of the congregation. She smiled broadly as a baby was baptized and carried down the aisle by the pastor.”

Apparently this was not the sort of liberal United Methodist Church that Hillary Clinton is used to attending … Clinton’s Methodist crowd is the sort that formed the Interfaith Alliance to oppose the Christian Coalition. In addition to generally supporting gay marriage and abortion, the Interfaith Alliance’s “pastors” were among the main ones that accused Bill Clinton’s critics of being “judgmental” and “hypocritical” in the 1990s (well then again if it was Henry Hyde, Bob Livingston, Bob Barr, Larry Craig, David Vitter, Newt Gingrich that were criticizing …). As such, it is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that such “pastors” spend much time on Matthew 5:27. So, this clearly represented a case of terrible vetting by Hillary Clinton’s terrible campaign, the same campaign that did not even know about proportional allocation of delegates, has run out of money, did not organize for the caucuses, and had backup plan in case the race continued after Super Tuesday. As a matter of fact, Clinton’s campaign has been so terribly run that you would almost think that they wanted Obama to win …

Wheaton College Right To Fire Divorced Professor Kent Gramm

Posted by Job on May 13, 2008

Please read this article. Fortunately, this issue is not about whether a Christian college should employ a divorced person. That would be a tougher debate to get into than it would appear on face value because 1) Wheaton is a university and not a local church and 2) Kent Gramm is a professor and not a pastor (elder, presbyter, bishop, deacon, teacher, etc.). Wheaton says that they are attempting to run their university according to New Testament standards. That is fine, except that the New Testament only gives instructions on how to run local churches and to live as members of the Body of Jesus Christ. I am not certain whether those instructions apply elsewhere or should be enforced elsewhere. Were Wheaton owned and run by a local church for the purposes of training elders and deacons for that church – and for whoever else wanted to appoint or hire them – it would be a different story. But to the best of my knowledge, Wheaton is independent of any local church.

So, it would be a great issue to ponder and discuss from a doctrinal point of view, but one for another day. In this instance, I am spared from having to concern myself with such higher things by the actions of Gramm himself. Gramm, of his own volition, became an employee of a workplace that does not permit divorce. Further, the university is willing to make exceptions: “still, every year, the college has dealt with several cases in which it must evaluate the divorce of a job applicant or a staff or faculty member and consider whether it matches the exceptions laid out in Matthew 19 and the writings of the Apostle Paul.” However, Gramm removed himself from consideration for an exception by refusing to divulge the circumstances of his divorce to Wheaton’s administration for reasons relating to privacy and respect of his spouse of 30 years. In my opinion, this was a very appropriate decision for Gramm; he decided to be as Joseph in the Bible, who went confronted with the pregnancy of Mary decided not to make a public example of her but rather divorce her privately, and was called by the Holy Spirit “a just man” for his desire to do so (Matthew 1:19). But there are consequences to honorable self – sacrificial behavior; otherwise it would not be self – sacrificial nor so honorable. (Please note: I am not presuming Gramm to have been a cuckold as Joseph presumed himself to be, but rather stating that Gramm should not be looked down upon for refusing to divulge private details of his life – and that of his spouse – in order to save his job; perhaps by comparing him to Joseph I am making far too strong a statement.) However, the fact that the university is not rigid with the policy but is willing to examine each violator on a case – by – case basis acquits them of the charge that Jesus Christ laid against the Pharisees: omitting the weightier matters of the law i.e. judgment, mercy, faith (Matthew 23:23).

Yet that is precisely what Gramm is regrettably accusing Wheaton of doing according to this quote in the article above, which granted may be out of context as the media oft does to Christians: “Yet he said students are facing the same marital statistics as other Americans, and many will themselves someday divorce. “And I feel that it’s important for them to know that they’re not somehow rejected by God for having more or less normal lives and for having lives that didn’t work out the way they intended them to turn out,” Gramm said. “I would like to see a broader understanding of faithfulness and mercy, and a broader understanding of human weakness and how that plays out in life,” he said.” First of all, Wheaton is not claiming that Gramm is going to burn for eternity in the lake of fire. They are merely firing him for violating a policy that Gramm agreed to when hired and remained consenting to during the course of his 30 year employment there. The article makes it clear that others have been terminated from Wheaton under this policy during Gramm’s time there, yet there is no evidence whatsoever that Gramm personally disagreed with this policy until he himself was negatively impacted by it. If this policy is unjust and inconsistent with Christianity and the mission of a Christian institution, why did not Gramm object to it when it was someone else losing their paycheck?

Second, the fact that other people are going to divorce is not a justification for a Christian school’s rejecting such a policy. Other people are going to be homosexuals, commit rapes and murders, do armed robberies, and have abortions. Should Wheaton not have or enforce policies against those too? Also, future if Wheaton graduates seek employment at Wheaton and agree to the same policy as did Gramm, they should be fired just as Gramm was. It is mighty disturbing that fellow that has been teaching students for 30 years – longer than most of his students have been alive – is resorting to what amounts to being but a more sophisticated version of the “but everybody’s doing it!” defense.

Third, Gramm with “And I feel that it’s important for them to know that they’re not somehow rejected by God for having more or less normal lives and for having lives that didn’t work out the way they intended them to turn out,” Gramm said. “I would like to see a broader understanding of faithfulness and mercy, and a broader understanding of human weakness and how that plays out in life” in particular, for him to make that statement after refusing the appeal process is mighty revealing. Quite simply, how is this any different from what a “gay rights activist” would say? A Soulforce member would say “I didn’t choose to be homosexual, all of the reputable scientists say that homosexuality is genetic, there are tens of millions of homosexual people in this country and the vast majority of whom are Christian, so what we need is a broader understanding of human weakness and mercy that causes Christians to stop hatefully and falsely claiming that homosexuality is a sin.” Now do not accuse me of calling Gramm’s divorce the equivalent of homosexuality, because I am only pointing out that Gramm is advancing the very same argument that gay rights activists use.

That said, Wheaton is very fortunate that Gramm chose not to pursue litigation, and that Joshua Hochschild, who was fired for converting to the cult of Roman Catholicism, did not do the same. Wheaton University receives taxpayer support in the form of federal and state financial aid (at minimum), so they are subject to government regulations that prevent discrimination on the basis of religion and marital status. Despite what Jay Sekulow and other religious right deceivers would tell you, the First Amendment guarantee of freedom of religion does not protect Wheaton in either the instance of Gramm or Hochschild because neither institution is compelled to receive taxpayer support. Other Christian institutions such as Bob Jones University, Pensacola Christian College, and Hillsdale College refuse taxpayer support precisely for that reason. And consider my mention of homosexuality earlier: more than a few Christian colleges in California that allowed themselves to fall into the position where they cannot operate without the state of California’s tax money are now facing the prospect of either hiring homosexual faculty and teaching a homosexual rights curriculum or else be forced to exit the program and go bankrupt. Of course, the usual religious right suspects are screaming “religious discrimination homosexual agenda!”, but the fact is that their challenge will fail because they do not have a legal leg to stand on. Neither do the megachurch preachers being investigated by Charles Grassley for misuse of funds … they are claiming First Amendment protections that do not exist for them because they chose to organize themselves as nonprofit organizations, thereby removing themselves from the reach of “the power to tax is the power to destroy” Supreme Court decision protecting the tax – exempt status of churches, which by the way was given in 1819, almost 100 years before the Internal Revenue Service whose 501(c)(3) allow one to declare oneself a nonprofit organization existed.

Update: Gramm’s comments in this  New York Times article

God won’t fire anyone because of their marital status, politics, theology or sexual preference,” Dr. Gramm said. The current divorce rates weigh heavily on Dr. Gramm as well, prompting him, he said, to tell his students why he was leaving. “I want them to know that God does not desert you when life suddenly gets real on you,” Dr. Gramm said. “And I want them to know that you can be a responsible, reasonable and decent person and not be able to work out a marriage with another responsible, reasonable and decent person.”

I state categorically that Gramm’s opinions on this matter are wholly inconsistent with Biblical revelation.

Update II: Apparently the results of a federal lawsuit shows that the actions of Wheaton in this matter – and in the matter of the Roman Catholic – were legal. Thanks to Robert Masters for correcting me on this issue, and also for providing the correct name of Wheaton College to me (I had it listed as Wheaton UNIVERSITY). www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?id=27676

The Paula White – Rick Hawkins Connection

Posted by Job on March 21, 2008

“Embattled” Paula White and Rick Hawkins “strengthen ties” March 13, 2008 by John

It is a measure of the American Churches blindness that it cannot discern what is going here with Paula White and Rick Hawkins. Having successfully dodged a storm over her “amicable” divorce from Randy White, with no loss of following from her “fans”. Still able to appear on TBN as if she has not done anything to violate minimal Biblical Standards for those who proclaim to be Christian Leaders.

It appears now that Paula White feels comfortable to move on to the next step in her fleshly desires and that is to “shack up” her “ministry” with another so called minister! It would seem the next big announcement will be that she and Rick Hawkins have “married”.

These two people are an absolute disgrace to Christianity! In fact I would be so bold to say that they are not followers of Christ at all as they reflect the works of their true father: Satan himself!

How many thousands if not millions will her behavior have an affect upon? How many millions will look to her behavior as justifiable and the “norm” for not only a supposed Christian Leader, but Christians in general!

The continuing damage this Jezebel does to Christianity is incalculable!

from MySA.com:

TV evangelist and motivational speaker Paula White, whose high-profile ministry is under review by a Senate committee, has forged stronger connections to a San Antonio church, having joined its board of directors and scheduled monthly visits throughout this year.

The nondenominational church, formerly called Family Praise Center, recently changed its name to San Antonio Epicenter, and founder Bishop Rick Hawkins remains its leader.

The Epicenter’s Web site reflects the church’s makeover and highlights White’s branding, including her monthly appearances and use of the church’s stage, remodeled to turn into a TV studio, for her recordings.

“From this stage, a potential 2.3 billion households will be touched throughout the world,” the narrator says in an online video.

The revamping of the church follows several controversies last year, including Hawkins’ divorce, the divorce of his son, Dustin, whom Rick had designated as pastor, and a WOAI investigation in which former church members questioned Hawkins’ integrity as a minister, including his spending of church money.

It alleged he paid former church members to keep quiet, which Hawkins has denied is improper or illegal, given church policy about severance packages for departing staff.

At the first service after the report aired, Hawkins praised the congregation for remaining loyal and reminded them that he already had apologized in church for past “sins and mistakes.”

White co-founded a megachurch in Tampa with her now-former husband, Randy White. The couple announced an amicable divorce last fall, saying no infidelity took place but sparking a debate among evangelicals about whether the breakup was appropriate.

Her expensive lifestyle, which includes a Trump Tower condo and a ministry jet, also has been fodder for public comment. She and her ex-husband are among six multimillion-dollar ministries that Sen. Chuck Grassley is individually reviewing in an inquiry about their compliance with non-profit tax policy.

White has defended her high-dollar ministry income as a blessing from God to accomplish his work, noting her donations to the disadvantaged worldwide.

White’s ministry spokeswoman Sheila Withum and her public relations agency WDC Media said White was not available for comment. Calls and e-mails to Will Norris, Epicenter’s spokesman and a staff pastor, were not returned.

All six TV ministers, including White, espouse some form of the so-called prosperity gospel, which emphasizes a message that God provides financial rewards for those committed to regular donations to their churches and ministries.

The Whites are among four of the ministries that the committee has reported as not cooperating with its requests for financial information, prompting the committee recently to prepare another round of requests and fueling speculation that subpoenas eventually could be sought.

The committee’s inquiries have intensified an already active debate about how open tax-exempt churches and ministries should be with their financial records. One side is suspicious that the Senate committee could be interfering with religious freedom. Others say the government is enforcing nonprofit tax laws that might be abused by church leaders in the name of charity. “We’re just saying enough with the funny business,” said Lee Grady, editor of the popular Christian magazine, Charisma, based in Florida.

“We have now entered into a new season. It’s a season of accountability. It’s a season of disclosure, and I’ve been saying that God Almighty is auditing the church.”

White, who has lived in Tampa, bought a home near Boerne six months ago and has set up a “media headquarters” for Paula White Ministries at the San Antonio church, according to the Epicenter Web site.

Hawkins, who owns a ranch outside of Boerne, serves on the board of White’s PWM Life Center, a nonprofit organization created last year. In keeping with White’s national profile, the Epicenter this year has scheduled notable Christian musicians and speakers for regular services and special events.

Among the changes is a new Saturday service led by a couple with ties to nationally known ministries, according to the church’s Web site. John and Jan Cruse are said to be leading “The Gathering” service.

John is described as the brother of Cindy Cruse, noted worship leader for Lakewood Church in Houston, the nation’s largest Protestant church pastored by best-selling author Joel Osteen. And Janice Cruse used to sing with the Archers, a longstanding contemporary Christian music group.

This week, the church will feature Bob and Audrey Meisner who will speak about marriage. The Meisners are known for giving a message about restoring marriages, including telling their own story of overcoming issues of infidelity.

Sign Of The Anti – Christ Times: Divorce Celebration Parties!

Posted by Job on March 18, 2008

Matthew 19:5-9 “And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.”

Matthew 24:37-39 “But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”
