* Rangers called in after mob torches Christian homes
* Punjab law minister says preliminary investigation shows no desecration of holy Quran
By Ali Usman
LAHORE: The government deployed the Rangers to the town of Gojra on Saturday after at least seven Christians, including three women, were burnt alive and dozens injured following the second incident of violence against Christians in Punjab in one month.
The latest riots, which started almost a week ago following allegations that a copy of the holy Quran was defiled, escalated on Saturday as locals shouting slogans against Christians took to the streets in Christian Town, a Christian-only locality. Following the escalation, Interior Minister Rehman Malik, on directions of President Asif Ali Zardari, ordered the Punjab Rangers to reach Gojra and help the civil administration maintain law and order. Eyewitnesses said a protesting mob turned violent when armed men from Jhang reached the spot and started attacking Christian houses. Locals claimed the attackers were members of a banned organisation, adding they carried sophisticated weaponry. Emboldened by the attackers, the mob started throwing acid and petrol bombs on the houses, forcing the people to come out. A local resident said dozens were feared dead, adding the exact number could not be confirmed as several bodies were buried under debris.
Claiming the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba group was involved in the rioting, Federal Minorities Minister Shahbaz Bhatti told the Associated Press he had directed police to ensure protection for the Christian community but they had ignored his instructions.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said authorities had investigated the allegation of a Holy Quran being defiled “and our initial reports say that there has not been any incident of desecration”. He said the situation had calmed down on Friday, but extremists had entered the city on Saturday and pushed people toward armed clashes. Faisalabad Commissioner Tahir Hussain told local TV channels that representatives of the two communities would meet on Saturday in an effort to calm the situation.

A mother who decided to abort her son because he may have inherited a life-threatening kidney condition is overjoyed that he survived the procedure.
Jodie Percival of Nottinghamshire, England, said she and her fiancee made the decision to abort baby Finley when she was eight weeks pregnant.
Percival’s first son Thane died of multicystic dysplastic kidneys — which causes cysts to grow on the kidneys of an unborn baby — and her second child Lewis was born with serious kidney damage and currently has just one kidney, the Daily Mail reported.
“I was on the (birth control pill) when I became pregnant,” Percival, 25, said. “Deciding to terminate at eight weeks was just utterly horrible but I couldn’t cope with the anguish of losing another baby.”
A short time after the abortion, Percival felt a fluttering in her stomach. She went to the doctor for a scan and discovered she was 19 weeks pregnant.
“I couldn’t believe it,’ Percival said. “This was the baby I thought I’d terminated. At first I was angry that this was happening to us, that the procedure had failed. I wrote to the hospital, I couldn’t believe that they had let me down like this.
“They wrote back and apologized and said it was very rare,” she added.
Dr. Manny Alvarez, managing health editor for FOXNews.com, said Percival’s situation is actually quite common.
“Women that have early terminations in weeks six, seven and eight, many times the pregnancy is so small that doctors miss removing the baby,” Alvarez said. “The danger is that the failed attempt can damage the baby. That is why these patients who get early terminations need follow-ups.”
Another scan a week later confirmed the baby also had kidney problems, but doctors told the couple the baby was likely to survive, so they decided he deserved another chance at life.
In November, Finley was born three weeks premature. He had minor kidney damage but is expected to lead a normal life.

HUMAN-cow embryos have been created in a world first at Newcastle University in England, hailed by the scientific community, but labelled “monstrous” by opponents.
A team has grown hybrid embryos after injecting human DNA into eggs taken from cows’ ovaries, which had most of their genetic material removed.
The embryos survived for three days and are intended to provide a limitless supply of stem cells to develop therapies for diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and spinal cord injuries, overcoming a worldwide shortfall in human embryos.
Dr Teija Peura, director of human embryonic stem cell laboratories at the Australian Stem Cell Centre, said somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) had been done between animal species, but the “99 per cent human” embryos could boost research.
“If successful, they would provide an important additional research tool to help realisation of stem cell-based therapies for human diseases,” Dr Peura said.
“All avenues of research, including SCNT . . . need to be encouraged if we want to fulfil the promises of stem cell technologies.”
But her colleague, Dr Andrew Laslett, warned the process was yet to yield a stem cell line and so it remained only an academic possibility.
In January, the Fertilisation and Embryology Authority gave Newcastle University a licence to do the work, but the British Parliament would debate the longer-term future of such research next month.
Under the licence, embryos are not allowed to be developed beyond 14 days.
Preliminary findings of the embryo program were presented in Israel last week, and the head of the university’s Institute of Human Genetics, Prof John Burn, said further evaluation would be done before the full details were published.
“If the team can produce cells which will survive in culture, it will open the door to a better understanding of disease processes without having to use precious human eggs,” Prof Burn said.
“Cells grown using animal eggs cannot be used to treat patients on safety grounds, but they will help bring nearer the day when new stem cell therapies are available.”
The Catholic Church in Britain branded the creations as “monstrous” – a view supported by Caroline Chisholm Centre for Health Ethics director Fr Kevin McGovern.
“An almost-human embryo is being created and then it’s being destroyed,” he said.
“I cannot see that that respects human life or the dignity of human life.
“Human beings – or even almost human embryos – are not just things that you can use in a laboratory experiment.
“What is being created is life.
“No one knows exactly what would grow from these embryos.
“If this is approved in the UK, there will be renewed pressure to permit it here, and we will travel further down the slippery slope of allowing just about anything.”
It is not the first time hybrids have been created.
The method was pioneered by Dr Hui Zhen Sheng’s team at the Shanghai Second Medical University, China, where she fused human cells with rabbit eggs to produce early stage embryos, which in turn yielded human stem cells.

This is in response to the debate that pops up from time to time which is a greater evil: abortion or the Iraq War. Now I personally feel abortion to be a greater evil. Still though, I hope to demonstrate with this line of thought why Christians should generally not be in the business of trying to discern lesser and greater evils. Ultimately, where does it get us? Pick one, and evil still wins! Now I do say this: someone who feels that the Iraq War is wrong (as I do) might say that from a Christian perspective, the Iraq War is more evil because it has the greater potential to deceive people. I cannot fathom how a born again Christian can support abortion, so anyone that is familiar with the Bible that supports mass murder of the innocent is fully aware of what they are doing. But it honestly does appear that a lot of good, honest, loving, decent Christians have been deceived by the Bush propaganda machine concerning this war.
Well … onto meat of the matter. How many women, wives and girlfriends, have terminated their pregnancies upon hearing that the fathers of their unborn children were killed in Iraq? Or perhaps not even killed, but injured to the point where it would severely impair his ability to provide for the child and the family?
How many daughters of men deployed in Iraq – or killed in Iraq – will go on to become pregnant out of wedlock due to the lack of the fatherly influence in this very critical, stressful time in their lives and terminate those pregnancies? In a similar fashion, how many sons of males deployed in Iraq will become sexually irresponsible and predatory and as a result sire children that will be aborted? And yes, how many women married to men overseas will become overwhelmed with loneliness, fright, financial pressures, etc. and resort to extramarital affairs, become impregnated, and then terminate those pregnancies in an attempt to hide their unfaithfulness and preserve the marriage?
Of course, I am aware that any number of abortions that can directly or indirectly be attributed to this war is a very tiny fraction of the overall number. But since when are pro – life Christians, who are supposed to be governed by the principle of scripture, comfortable with writing off the lives of the innocent unborn because of small numbers? I suppose, then, that it would be more helpful to attribute the 5,000 or 500 or 50 or 5 unborn children that owed their cruel fate to the war as mere innocent casualties of it just like so many Iraqis.
And then, it is not just abortion. Lots of suicides and divorces – things that pro – life Christians are also known to care about – can be blamed on the pressure that this war has placed on servicemen and their families, a war that Donald Rumsfeld predicted would be over in six weeks and Dick Cheney claimed would last 6 months as an absolute worst case scenario. Both of these men made these statements publicly, and the lack of accountability is shocking. One does not have to be some anti – American leftist atheist to be outraged by that. One can even support the notion (which incidentally I once myself supported but now find specious) that it was in the interests of America and our allies and the Iraqi people to remove Saddam Hussein and remove the weapons of mass destruction threat before Hussein would use his weapons program to kill Americans or more Iraqis and be outraged and want answers. One such question: if fighting this war as well as possible so that we could win it as quickly as possible so that we could minimize the casualties suffered by the Iraqis as well as our own men was ever a priority, then wow, these folks have sure figured out a way to make a whole lot of money off this deal, haven’t they?
All I am saying is that Christians should not let their outrage at abortion drive them into the arms of pro – war John McCain, who not only will keep us in Iraq indefinitely, but I am convinced will attack Iran, or whoever else strikes his fancy. And besides, John McCain isn’t pro – life anyway.
So choosing between two evils is a bad deal Christians no matter which way you go. Instead, we should trust God and choose righteousness, even if it means doing nothing and sitting on the sidelines, watching and praying for God’s Will to be done. That principle applies not only to politics, but also pretty much to everything in our Christian walk. After all, if we had all the answers and were always able to bring about righteousness by our own actions, either individually or as part of an organized Christian movement, why would we need God in the first place? What purpose would faith serve? Again, whether we are talking about choosing or supporting a church or pastor, or choosing a job or college, or making a decision concerning your children or in your marriage, deciding that you are going to pick the least among evils because you have to do SOMETHING is the mark of faithlessness.
It is precisely what King Saul did when he offered a burnt sacrifice himself because he was too impatient to wait on Samuel. He couldn’t just do NOTHING, right? I mean, there was a war going on, and he had to do SOMETHING. Right? Well, his inability to just be still and trust God was one of the main things that separated him from David. It was that sort of impatience that caused Saul to seek the counsel of the witch of Endor. Saul went seeking knowledge, and the only thing that he learned was that the next day, he and his sons would die and the very kingship that he had committed so many grotesque sins to preserve would be forever removed from his line and given to another. Think about it, Christians, and do not let it happen to you.
And if you are reading this and are unsaved, I encourage you to choose eternity with Jesus Christ over an eternity in the lake of fire and follow The Three Step Salvation Plan today!

Unborn Babies are Really Chimpanzees
Posted on March 3, 2008 by pjmiller
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness..” Genesis 1:26
It wouldn’t be Monday without at least one crazy story.
From LifeSiteNews: Legal Expert Claims that Unborn Babies are Really Chimpanzees
A former attorney general and human rights commission chairman is claiming that unborn children in the earliest stages of development are not human, and are in fact chimpanzees.
Dr. Jorge Carpizo McGregor claims that “for the topic of abortion, there are very important scientific advances that prove that the DNA of chimpanzees is 99 percent identical to that of a human being. The difference between ourselves and chimpanzees is one percent, this quantity that makes the difference is the central nervous system.”
“Before twelve weeks of gestation, there is no cerebral cortex, that is to say, there is no human being, the cortex is formed around the 25th week. This is a very important piece of information because those who attack abortion say that a human being is being killed and it isn’t true.”
“That’s ridiculous,” said Dr. John Shea, medical advisor to Canada’s Campaign Life Coalition. “This is the most ignorant remark I think the man could possibly make. He must be totally ignorant of science.” Dr. Shea was shocked to hear that a prominent attorney was claiming that the only difference between a chimpanzee and a human being was in the nervous system. “That’s so ignorant that I don’t know where to begin,” he told LifeSiteNews.
“The organism is different in every single way” he said, and added that “a person is different in a trillion different biochemical ways. It’s ludicrous, ludicrous. It’s on it’s face, ridiculous.” In reality, the nervous system begins to form well before the 25th week. During the first four weeks, the neural tube begins to form, which is the beginning of the central nervous system. During the fifth week, the brain begins to grow.
Carpizo, who is a former attorney general of Mexico and former head of Mexico’s human rights commission, has acted as a legal advisor to the government of Mexico City, which is defending its recent legalization of abortion before the nation’s Supreme Court. The current head of the National Human Rights Commission is one of the parties disputing Mexico City’s law. A decision on the matter is expected within days.
Carpizo is planning on putting forth his ideas in a new book, which he will introduce in March, called “Human Rights: Abortion and Euthanasia”.

Italian Doctors: Abortion Survivors must be given Care, Even Against Mother’s Wishes
by Matthew Cullinan Hoffman : Feb 7, 2008 : LifeSiteNews
http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2008/feb/08020601.htmlThe declaration “has fallen like a bomb among scientists and politicans.”
18 week Preborn Baby(Rome)—Doctors from four different Roman universities have issued a joint declaration affirming the duty of doctors to rescue and care for infants born alive after an abortion attempt, even against the wishes of the mother. (Photo: Lifesite.net)
The declaration, made by doctors at the obstetric clinics of La Sapienza, Tor Vergata, Campus Biomedico and Sacro Cuore, represent both the secular and religious sides of the Italian university system. The first two universities are public, and the second two are Catholic.
“An extremely premature newborn must be treated like any other person in danger, and assisted adequately,” said Domenico Arduni, director of the Tor Vergata gynecological clinic.
Arduini added that this principle would hold even if the child had survived an abortion, and “even if the mother is not in agreement.”
The four physicians issued the statement together during a meeting at Fatebenefratelli hospital in Rome last Saturday. According to the Spanish publication El Pais, the doctors’ declaration and the Vatican’s recent campaign for a “moratorium” on abortion in Italy (which has now become a global campaign), “has fallen like a bomb among scientists and politicians.”
Emma Bonino, the Italian Minister of European Policy, complained to El Pais that “the political class should not allow others to set their agenda.” The Italian health minister, Livia Turco, told the publication that protecting the life of such children was “senseless cruelty.” A prominent physician reportedly suggested that abortions be done by poisoning the baby with potassium chloride, thus ensuring his death before exiting the womb.
However, the ANSA news agency reports that the liberal bioethicist Cinzia Caporale has endorsed the physicians’ declaration, stating that while she is in favor of allowing euthanasia for adults who want it, children who leave the womb alive should be cared for, even against the will of the parents. “I don’t even consider their consent necessary if the fetus has survived an abortion,” she said.

Wonder what their advocates Pat Robertson and Hillary Clinton have to say about this one.
By Thaddeus M. Baklinski
February 1, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Dr. Mark Miravalle’s sobering
book, The Seven Sorrows of China, gives, in heart-wrenching detail,
accounts of the brutality of the one-child policy and its effects on
the Chinese people.
Dr. Miravalle’s account of his often intense experiences as he
travels through modern China provides a disturbingly realistic picture
of life outside of Beijing.
The following is an excerpt from Part III of Dr. Miravalle’s book,
entitled The Third Sorrow: Abortion Without Conscience: The
Indoctrination of a Nation: “The most alarming,” he writes, “the most
depressing, the most Copernican revelation of all that I have been
exposed to (including the yet more grisly examples to follow), is the
repeated refrain that the great majority of the people in China have
lost any concept that there is anything at all wrong with having an
abortion. It is considered less significant than a flu shot, a minor
procedure like going to the dentist, a simple solution to a simple
problem that doesn’t merit any soul searching for any alternative
“China has become a nation who without conscience aborts their own
future generations. And this is Satan’s ultimate victory here. Is this
conscience loss regarding the transcendent dignity and inherent right
of human life to be blamed exclusively on atheistic Communism? Have not
the recent influences of Western morals of secular humanism,
materialism, hedonism, and ultimately unmitigated egoism, also
contributed to this Chinese terrorism of the womb? In any case, the
combination amounts to self-inflicted Chinese genocide, which so
saddens the God that creates and loves the ethnical uniqueness of China.
“New macabre manifestations of this conscienceless abortion mentality
include the recent opening of five restaurants in the region of X,
which began serving ‘fetal soup’ at the price of 300 Yuan
(approximately $40) a bowl! Recent medical publications have praised
the exceptional health benefits for the consuming of ‘fetal remains’
(this jargon allows them to overlook what this really is-unborn baby
bodies). Therefore, local entrepreneurs jumped on the opportunity to
distribute this new health breakthrough to the chosen few who could
afford the price. So evil and scandalous is this fetal soup trade that
the Government shut down the Web sites advertising the restaurants, in
fear that they would scandalize the reputation of the People’s Republic
to outside countries and businesses.
“Is it possible that the abortion holocaust and its rejection of
life’s sacred dignity has also contributed to the recent practice of
‘ghost wives,’ as recently reported in Chinese news sources? This is
the practice of providing a woman’s dead body to be buried with a
deceased man so that the man will have company in the ‘next life.’
Distributors of the dead bodies of women found that men were willing to
pay much more for a ‘new’ dead body of a woman, rather than one
previously preserved. Murder of women from out-of-the-way places ensued
to fill the new demand for the fresh ghost wives.
“When human life in the womb is not safe, no human life is safe. How
can China regain the natural law dictates of conscience that tells
every human heart that it is always wrong to directly kill an innocent
human being, regardless of race, religion, health, age or location,
including the womb (historically man’s most secure location, and now
his most dangerous)? Through God, through prayer, through education,
and through the witness of individual heroes, saving one person, one
unborn child, at a time.
This part of the book also goes on to describe more of the process
of the one-child policy:”A certificate of permission is required to
have a baby in a Chinese hospital. The government tells you how many
children you can have and when. In the city, married couples are
limited to one child. In the farming regions a family, if the first
child is a girl, can sometimes be permitted to try for a boy as a
second child because of the need for boys on the farm. Even in this
case, the government will control when they can try for the boy, with
the requirement that it be at least five years after the first child.
The government also uses psychological pressure to keep the policy. If
a couple in the country have only one child, then this child will
probably be able to have two children. The policy varies from region to
“A couple must go to the hospital with their permission certificate to
deliver their child. If they arrive at the hospital without the
permission certificate, hospital officials contact the Population
Police. At this point, the Police decide, based on the circumstances of
the family and the history of the couple, what is to be the fate of the
family. The child will be injected with poison on the spot. Or the
couple will be fined and their home burnt down. Or the couple could
lose their jobs, and in some cases, cause the loss of their employees’
jobs (one teacher told me that if his wife didn’t abort her second
child, he and the school principal would both lose their jobs). One
Protestant woman refused to abort her second child and lost her own job
at the hospital she worked at. Still another possibility is that the
child does not receive official recognition that it exists and does not
receive the ‘Chinese Social Security Card.’ The child therefore is not
technically a citizen, nor can he or she go to school or participate in
any right of a citizen. One remedy is to try to find a retired and
sympathetic midwife who can deliver the child at home. This saves the
baby’s life, but does not guarantee his registration”.
The Seven Sorrows of China by Dr. Mark Miravalle is available from the publisher: Queenship Publishing Company (http://www.queenship.org/productdetails.cfm?sku=3102), other online booksellers, and Christian book stores.

Pakistan (MNN) ― A Pakistani pastor has been murdered because of his involvement in evangelistic work. Christians face severe opposition from militant Islamic groups. Muslims
make up about 97 percent of Pakistan’s people, while Hindus make up 1.5
percent, and Christians 1.7 percent. According to Voice of the Martyrs’ Canada,
29-year-old Sajid William was shot and killed by a masked gunman on his
way home in Peshawar on January 17. Pastor William was the office
manager for the Christian relief and development agency “Shelter Now,”
active in Pakistan for nearly 25 years.
The organization runs two projects in the country–a fish farm and a
building project for 105 schools. The schools were ruined during the
earthquake that shook Pakistan in 2005. The agency is also providing
clothes, shelter and nourishment for thousands of returning refugees
who are without shelter during the harsh winter. Pray for God’s comfort for Pastor William’s family. He is survived by a wife and an 18-month-old daughter.
Ask God to embolden Pakistani Christians to follow his example of
faithfulness. Pray for protection for Christians facing intimidation
and threats from those around them.
