Sin Results When We Forget What God Has Done For Us!

Posted by Job on April 5, 2011

Exodus 1:8 – Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

Oftentimes, the Bible is notable for its subtlety, for its ability to understate. In Exodus 1:8, it says that the new pharaoh didn’t know Joseph. What this means is that the entire nation forgot what YHWH did for their nation! Joseph was a type of Jesus Christ. He was, as the pharaoh of Joseph’s time testified of, one in whom the Holy Spirit lived. And the very name Joseph means “YHWH has added”, which means that YHWH had providentially given Joseph to that people and nation.

YHWH used Joseph to benefit Egypt in many ways. He wisely ruled the nation for decades, and though the Bible does not record Joseph causing the Egyptians to worship YHWH during the time of his stewardship, nonetheless during this time was a source of wisdom and order who greatly restrained wickedness and evil, which is what Romans 13:1-3 says is the role of civil government and those who serve therein.

Further, Joseph with both his power of prophecy and his gift of administration saved Egypt during the famine. The crops failed, the currency failed, yet Joseph saved them alive. And Joseph in particular worked to benefit the pharaoh and his line during this time, because he caused the transfer of all the money and land in Egypt to the pharaoh’s possession, and furthermore allowed the Egyptians to sell themselves as slaves to the pharaoh – giving him absolute power – in exchange for their lives. Also, Joseph redistributed the population of Egypt – making them easier to govern – and established a law where 20% of the wealth generated in Egypt had to go to pharaoh. This resulted in the Egyptian kings’ having an incomprehensible amount of wealth and economic and political power. Also, Egypt’s surviving a widespread famine that devastated the surrounding nations made them the unparalleled power in the region. These things and more did Joseph do for Egypt and its pharaohs, and they forgot them. And in forgetting Joseph, they forgot about the YHWH that sent Joseph, was with Joseph, used Joseph, and blessed all of Joseph’s actions on behalf of Egypt and the pharaoh.

In a very real sense, rejecting the man of God is akin to rejecting God. This was illustrated when the people rejected Moses in the wilderness, when the people rejected Samuel and asked for a human king, when the people rejected Jeremiah during the time of their subjugation to Babylon, and when the people rejected the ultimate Man of God, Jesus Christ. Egypt forgot about the man of YHWH, and in the course of doing so they forgot about the YHWH in whose Name this man came and labored.

So what happened when Egypt forgot about God? They sinned. They sinned by persecuting the people of God even unto a genocidal slaughter of all the males. As a result of this crime, Egypt was severely judged. It was bankrupted of currency, its mighty army was destroyed, its crops and livestock slain, its firstborn killed, and this proud nation was made into a public laughingstock before the very same world where it was the chief superpower by the God of its own former slaves. Egypt went from being the head (if only in a temporal or secular sense, for Israel by virtue of its election was the true head) to being the tail. All because they forgot about God and as a result were ungrateful for His works. This is highly reminiscent of the pitiful estate of the town of Mansoul when it forgot about and ceased to be thankful to Prince Emmanuel in the very underappreciated John Bunyan allegory “Holy War.”

That forgetting God and being ungrateful to Him is a cause of grotesque sin is confirmed by the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:21. The Holy Spirit speaking through this Paul says “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.” The result of this forgetting of YHWH? “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Now when we forget YHWH, we have to thank SOMETHING … we have to put our faith and trust in SOMETHING. In the Holy War allegory, Mansoul put its trust in carnal security, their own physical accomplishments and defenses that could be seen with their eyes. Jesus Christ said of the rich young ruler that the wealthy put their trust in riches. In contemporary times, it is common to put your trust in some political ideology (i.e. democracy, liberalism or conservatism) or economic theory (capitalism or socialism) or on a more personal level one’s education/skills and earning capacity derived thereof. This means that when we forget YHWH and replace Him, we become IDOLATERS. And of course, wherever idolatry appears, pervasive sin of the most depraved and grotesque order follows after, and Romans 1 takes 7 whole verses (26-32) in giving a mere executive summary of it!

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

So, when Egypt forgot and thereby rejected YHWH through their rejection of His representative Joseph, it was a symbol of both how mankind forgot God when it knew God through Adam and thereby fell into original sin, and how mankind forgot and rejected YHWH through their rejection of the God-Man Jesus Christ. The very same people who witnessed His great miracles, who marveled at His teachings, who heard the sermon on the mount, who saw Him expose and confound the scribes and Pharisees, who ate their fill when Christ feed the 5,000 and the 4,000, and who cheered “Hosanna!” when He entered Jerusalem yelled “Crucify Him!” when Pilate sought to release Him, and mocked Him while He lay dying on the cross. His own disciples left Him in Gethsemane, and Peter denied Him thrice!

How quickly we forget, and how great is the extent of our forgetfulness! Just as Israel forgot about their deliverance from Egypt as soon as they got a little hungry and thirsty and began to grumble, we so often forget about YHWH and succumb to the temptation to rely on the arm of flesh, our own human talents and ideas, when adversity happens! When the going gets tough, how rarely do we get on our knees, remember YHWH and thank Him for trying us by fire? How quickly do we forget that the Bible says that we are to count it all for joy? That God allows such things to happen to us in order to rebuke, reprove, chasten and refine us because we are His sons and not His servants? Not only do we fail to remember God and God’s servant (the Bible and its teachings) during these times, but we accuse God of forgetting and being unfaithful to us just as did Elijah when he prayed to God to raise the boy from the dead! That God continues to endure us despite our forgetting Him over and over again is a testimony to precisely how patient, loving and merciful our God is!

Moses was on Mount Sinai less than 40 days when Israel said “We don’t know what happened to this guy, so let us build a golden calf and worship IT as the god who led us out of Egypt!” Now please note: they didn’t forget coming out of Egypt. No, they forgot Who led them out of Egypt! So, since they needed to give the glory to someone, they chose a dead, dumb idol that was the work of their own hands! And Aaron, the priest of YHWH went along with this idolatry just as so many pastors and preachers do the same when confronted with adversity and temptation!

How many pastors and preachers lead their congregations into their vain ideas and wild schemes instead of teaching them with their own example to trust God? How many pastors and preachers when confronted with hardships are known to say “The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away (for all things are God’s to give and take away in the first place) and blessed be the Name of the Lord!” How many pastors and preachers succumb to the notions of personal failings and the need to get up to do something to rectify it by adopting some program or strategy, instead of just accepting the moving of God’s sovereignty? How many pastors and preachers are conforming to some internal or external expectation rather than being conformed to God through His Word no matter the result?

Again … remember Jeremiah: he didn’t win any converts. No, it was the false prophets who spoke lies in their own name, who passed on revelations from devils bent on causing the people to stumble and be destroyed, who gained the huge followings. Yet the contemporary message today is how we need to be more like the false prophets to get the crowds coming and churches growing again, more like Zedekiah who assaulted and mocked Micaiah – and by extension YHWH by saying “Which way went the Spirit of YHWH from me to speak unto thee?” Instead of being like the prophet of God, we choose to be like the blasphemers of God. The reason for this is that we have forgotten YHWH, and as a result we are judging by external (carnal) standards rather than by righteous judgment (John 7:24).

So how fortunate are the elect that in the time of judgment, those saved by Jesus Christ will have Him, the righteous Judge, to speak on the elect’s behalf? Jesus Christ will not speak for the elect on the basis of the elect’s righteousness, because it has been proven time and time again that the elect is unrighteousness if for no other reason that we frequently forget YHWH and fall into idolatry and sin. Instead, Jesus Christ will speak for His bride on the basis of His own righteousness that He imputes to His bride by way of the work that Jesus Christ did on the cross!

So, even though we forget YHWH, Jesus Christ has not forgotten about us, as He was slain for us! In a similar manner, the Holy Spirit has not forgotten about us, as He regenerates us and keeps us in the faith, and God the Father has not forgotten about us, as He chose us from before the foundation of the world. Because of this, though we sin, our sins are forgiven. God is just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness! Because of this we must rejoice in YHWH with worship and praise, but we also must do so with reverence, fear, trembling and the utmost humility! In all things, we must remember that if YHWH forgot about us the way that we so often forget about Him, we would be doomed to an eternity in the lake of fire! How amazing, how wonderful, how awesome it is to have such a great and loving God who forgives us; One who never forgets us as we forget Him! How great a God, and how great a salvation … who can despise or trivialize it and stand before this God?

Yet, we are saved by grace. We are justified by faith. We are sanctified not by the works of our own, sinful idolatrous hands, but instead by the workings of the sinless Holy Spirit upon us. These facts are true as clearly set forth by the Bible. Yet it is equally true – a fact of the same Bible – that we are not to use that truth as an excuse to wallow in error! Jude 1:4 calls this denying – or forgetting – YHWH. So though we are not saved or sanctified by our works, by our striving, work and strive we must do. It is what God commands us, and the man who loves God is the man who keeps YHWH’s commandments (John 14:15). The man who calls upon YHWH but fails to keep His commandments is a goat, and Jesus Christ says that the goats will be forgotten, left outside the camp and cast into outer darkness, on judgment day (Matthew 25:31-46). So though we are saved by Christ’s obedience and not ours, woe is the man who forgets YHWH and rejects obedience!

In closing, I urge you: do not forget what YHWH has done for you. Do not dare forget that YHWH sent His only begotten Son to die on a cross for sins that were not His Son’s, because being equal with God and being God by nature of His Sonship and pre-existence, the Son was and is sinless just as is the Father and the Spirit. Do not forget that YHWH verified His Son’s identity – including His sinlessness – and validated His work and mission by raising Him from the dead and accepting Him back into heaven where He sits on God the Father’s right hand, interceding for His bride, His church. Do not forget that YHWH did these things so that men might have their sins forgiven and inherit eternal life in His service. Do not forget that as a result of this, eternal torment in the lake of fire is not the future of those who believe. Instead, have faith, remember these things, repent of your sins so that they will be forgotten, and believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ. Go, and do it quickly by:

Joseph And The Pharoah: The Butler Was Loved But The Baker Was Hated! Genesis 40

Posted by Job on March 16, 2011

Genesis 40 provides an amazing story that illustrates the Biblical doctrine of election, that being God choosing to to save and who not save, who to favor and who to disfavor. Now actually, the text is much stronger than that; as the story of Joseph, the pharaoh, the butler and the baker can be used to illustrate Romans 9:13, which reads “Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.” The parallels are so strong that it can as an allegory to describe first God choosing Israel of all nations to be His elect nation, and then the church from all peoples to be His elect people.

First the story itself: Joseph is cast into a pit by his wickedly jealous brothers, who first plan to kill him and then decide to sell him into slavery. This was specifically done in order to prevent the dreams that God gave Joseph from coming to pass (Genesis 37:20) and by all appearances was the result of evil spirits – using human jealously and anger as a vehicle, agent and lubricant – attempting to stop God’s purposes from coming to fruition with regards to the descendants of Abraham and the recipients of his promise and covenant. Instead, while they took a break from their evil deeds to eat lunch (not exactly the brightest or most focused or self-disciplined bunch of miscreants were they?) Midianites and Ishmaelites come, get Joseph out of the pit, and sell him to slavery in Egypt to Potiphar.

While in slavery in Egypt, Joseph faithfully serves his master and for this is rewarded by God (in keeping with 1 Peter 2:18; please reject the false modern humanistic doctrines and instead heed what the Bible says when confronted with injustice and oppression). Evil spirits act yet again to provoke Potiphar’s wife into attempting to seduce Joseph, and in contrast with the sexual immorality of Reuben and Judah, Joseph resists even to the point of 1 Corinthians 6:18’s command to “flee fornication.” That gives the evil spirits acting through the lust and pride of Potiphar’s wife the opportunity to cast Joseph into prison. (Realize that God was with Joseph, for the offense that he was accused of should have resulted in his summary execution.) In prison, Joseph yet again keeps such doctrines as 1 Peter 2:18 and Romans 13:1-4, and rather than protesting the injustice that he is subjected to, he behaves in an exemplary fashion and is blessed by God for it, who also causes the blessings of man – the prison keeper – to fall upon him.

With that out of the way, here is where the allegory – if you will – begins in earnest. First, let us start with pharoah. As emperor of Egypt, pharoah had unquestioned power over the people in his political domain. He had absolute power over his subjects. In that culture, far removed from the west and long before the Enlightenment, there was no concept of human or civil rights. Also, the law of Moses, which limited the rights and prerogatives of Israeli monarchs and gave citizens human and civil rights, did not exist in Egypt. Instead, just as Joseph was a slave to Potiphar, all of pharoah’s subjects were his slaves. As  emperor of Egypt, his subjects were his people to do with as he pleased: to sell to other nations as slaves (a practice not uncommon in that era), to conscript for his own military or economic service (again, a common practice), to reward with riches and favor, or to kill and take all that was theirs (again, a common practice). So, it is no accident that God in His revelation used royal language (king, emperor, lord etc.) to describe His relationship to Israel, all nations and people of the earth, and all of creation itself because in that time and place, everyone would have immediately known and presumed His complete ownership and rule according to it in a manner that we cannot even conceive in modern times due to Enlightenment thinking.

But it is precisely because of this mindset, one where a monarch had complete authority over his kingdom (and also a patriarch had complete authority over his household, including wife, children, younger brothers and sisters and their spouses and children, servants etc.) and is the representative symbol of all that is his, all that is “called by his name” (whether a nation for a ruler, a tribe for a chief or a household for a patriarch) that doctrines like federal headship (i.e. of Adam and Jesus Christ) work. Start applying such notion as individual rights and individual agency, which again did not apply in those days in a political context unless granted by the king himself, and ideas like federal headship (and things that proceed from it like original sin) break down. So make no mistake, just as God is Lord of creation, pharoah was lord over Egypt! (As a matter of fact, the same Hebrew words for lord were used for both Yahweh and human rulers, and human rulers were also called “god” in that day, including at times in the Bible, see the “ye are gods” passage of Psalm 82:6, the one notoriously abused by the Word of Faith teachers for their false doctrines.) And now you see why it was such a serious, grievous error when the children of Israel rejected God as their Lord and King and instead demanded a human lord and king.

So pharaoh, in every earthly sense “lord” and “god” over Egypt, becomes angry with two of his subjects; the chief butler and the chief baker. The nature of his anger is this: the text says that he was “wroth.” The Hebrew root word used was qatsaph which can mean “to put oneself in a rage.” The same word was used to describe the anger of YHWH at the children of Israel over idolatry, disobedience and other sins in Leviticus 10:6, Deuteronomy 9:7-8, Deuteronomy 9:22, and Zechariah 8:14. What was it that caused the wrath of pharaoh against his subjects? The text does not say. So, using this “argument from silence” (a common tactic of Jewish theologians that was used extensively regarding Mechizedek in Hebrews 7), we can extend this allegory, metaphor or what have you to symbolize the wrath of God against all mankind, one that exists not solely because of any sins on the part of the individual, but rather because of our universal fallen sinful condition, our original sin, because of being in Adam. As Adam is the federal head of all men (indeed, the word “Adam” means” mankind, and the English word is actually the transliteration of the Hebrew word and not a translation), he represents his sinful nation – it is called by his name – just as pharaoh represents the Egyptian nation. So, because all men are called by the name of Adam, Adam’s sinfulness is imputed to all men. (Recall also that Adam named his wife Eve, which is the Hebrew word “chavvah “, which means “living”, according to her being the mother of all humanity.) Because of this, God is at war with the sinful nation that Adam is the head of just as America not so long ago was at war with the Iraq nation that Saddam Hussein ruled.

So pharaoh represents God, and the butler and baker represent humanity, and pharaoh’s anger at them for the unstated reason represents God’s anger at humanity over our original sin. What does pharaoh do? He casts the butler and the baker in prison, and away from their prior positions of serving him. This represents our alienation from God and our absence from His presence because of our sin. God is holy, therefore that which is sinful cannot stand before His presence! This recalls how Adam was cast from his position from serving God as caretaker of the garden of Eden because of his sin (Genesis 3:24) and also how Satan and the demons were cast from their first estates of serving God due to their rebellion (Jude 1:6).

Now just like YHWH, it was well within the rights of pharaoh due to the privileges, power and authority contained within his position and rank to kill the butler and baker, and the fact that the butler and baker caused the lord of Egypt such grievous offense made this fact even more so. Yet pharaoh used his kingly prerogative to spare the life of the butler and execute the baker. The butler was loved, the baker was hated. Why was the butler chosen over the baker? Well, do not believe the many Hollywood depictions of this story – and even some depictions by any number of Christian efforts i.e. children’s videos – that favor the character of the butler over that of the baker (such as the 1995 miniseries starring Ben Kingsley and a cartoon movie starring Ben Affleck that depicts the baker as violently assaulting Jacob) – because these movies, made according to modernistic humanistic tendencies and ideas of fairness, are not justified in the Biblical text. Instead, pharaoh chose the butler over the baker during a feast of merriment for all his servants (reminds one of the marriage supper of the Lamb and the bride of Christ that will be witnessed by the angels!) and therefore did it because it was for his pleasure! Though the king could have killed both, for his pleasure and his own sake he graciously spared one! Just as God’s choosing Jacob over Esau had nothing to do with Jacob’s character, for Jacob was a usurper, thief, manipulator, liar and con artist. Witness, for example, the way that Jacob mistreated his wife Leah, and how he blatantly favored the children of Rachel over the children of Leah and the concubines (sending the latter group first so that if Esau and his army started killing people, Leah, the concubines and their kids would have almost no chance to escape, but Rachel’s would have a chance!). Jacob was just as bad as was Esau, if not worse. Yet God chose him!

It was all according to the wishes, the desire, the pleasure of the pharaoh. Please note that the nowhere does the Bible call the pharaoh wicked for exercising his prerogative in this manner. Quite the contrary, the Bible accounts this pharaoh as being wise for recognizing the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, living within Joseph (Genesis 41:38) and making him ruler of Egypt based on it. He is a clear contrast between the pharaoh of Moses, who resisted this same Holy Spirit due to God’s hardening his heart.

Note that the butler and the baker had no say in this matter. The baker did not reject the grace of pharoah; indeed no such opportunity to accept or reject it. And the butler had no say in this matter either. The butler had no opportunity to call the pharaoh unfair for imprisoning him in the first place. He had no space to reject the grace given to him because he felt that it was unfair that he was saved while the baker was not, and while many other people (including Joseph) remained in prison. The baker could not accept the grace of the pharaoh because no such “free will choice” to do so was given to him. And the baker could not reject the grace of the pharaoh, because as the subject of a potentate with absolute power, authority and dominion over him (if only in a temporal sense, and please recall according to Jesus Christ that the power of the pharaoh over the butler and the baker were given to them by God, see John 19:11 … so yes, as frightening as it is to believe, George W. Bush and Barack Hussein Obama … oh never mind) he lacked the power and authority because of his own low estate – his lack of power, authority, rank and dominion -with respect to the pharaoh. (See what Psalm 136:26, Luke 1:48 and Romans 12:16 about God’s gracious dealing with His people despite our low estate.)

So, for the butler, the grace of pharaoh was irresistible! So is it with the grace of God towards His sheep; His Son’s bride. The bride cannot say no, because if all members of the bride do say no (not merely a theoretical possibility, especially when both the effects of sin and the nefarious plotting of Satan are involved!) then God’s Son has no bride, and the purposes of God are thwarted. God forbid that such a thing would happen! Make no mistake, just as the “god of Egypt” in this incident had the power to love the butler and hate the baker and exercised it accordingly, God of all creation has the same prerogative – indeed even a greater prerogative for God is greater than the pharaoh – to do with Jacob (all those in Jesus Christ) and Esau (all those in Adam) and has exercised it accordingly before foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4), since before Genesis 1:1!

And when did this happen? Genesis 40:20 says that it occurred the third day after Joseph interpreted the dreams of the butler (the dream that he would receive salvation of his live through grace) and the baker (the dream that he would receive neither this salvation or the grace that makes it possible). Now how long was our Lord and Savior in the grave after His death for the sins of His bride on the cross? Three days. Now nothing is in the Bible by coincidence; in it are no superfluous facts. So, the fact that three days after the prophecy, the promise of grace, came by the butler from Holy Spirit of Elohim (the Name that Joseph used to the butler in Genesis 40:8) to the butler was this promise of grace consummated by the butler’s release from bondage (which the Bible often uses with reference to sin) is a clear reference to the work of Jesus Christ. That allows us to elevate this episode from being mere metaphor, symbolism and allegory to typology. In this episode, the pharaoh, in loving the butler (Jacob) and hating the baker (Esau) was a type of the Ancient of Days, God the Father. Joseph is commonly regarded to be a type of Jesus Christ. And of course, the Holy Spirit was within Joseph. So in this story, the Trinity is together and in agreement, whether in actuality (the Holy Spirit in Joseph) or typology (pharaoh as God the Father, Joseph as God the Son).

Keep in mind that just as the butler was saved on the third day, the baker was executed on the third day. So, just as Jesus Christ delivered salvation to the elect with His ministry, Jesus Christ will return again to punish the non-elect on the Day of the Lord and will also serve as Judge of the non-elect before their punishment in the lake of fire (read the book of Revelation). So, the purpose of Genesis 40 is not to be fascinated with metaphor, symbolism, typology and allegory. Instead, it should be used to instruct one of the fact that those in Jesus Christ will be saved (the butler) and those not in Christ will perish in eternal punishment of flame (the baker). In light of that fact, one must make His calling and election sure in accordance with the scriptures (2 Peter 1:10). Repent of your sins (Acts 2:38), confess with your mouth and believe with your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord who died for your sins and is whom God raised from the dead (Romans 10:9) and be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38) or in the Name of Jesus Christ and in God the Father and God the Son (Matthew 28:19) who indwell Jesus Christ.

Egypt to sign nuclear pact with Russia

Egypt to sign nuclear pact with Russia – Worthy News

Russia and Egypt are expected to sign a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement this week that will boost Cairo’s efforts to join a string of Sunni countries keen on developing nuclear potential and that government officials in Jerusalem believe is intended in part to offset Iran’s nuclear program.Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak traveled to Moscow for a two-day visit Monday, and the Russian wire service RIA Novosti quoted Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit as saying that the agreement would be signed during the visit.

The news service quoted Gheit as saying, “This agreement will enable Egypt to use Russia’s extensive experience in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.” According to the report, a source in Egypt’s Electricity and Energy Ministry said earlier that the document would lay the foundation for nuclear energy cooperation between Egypt and Russia and would strengthen relations between Russian companies and Egypt. However, the report said, the agreement would not automatically mean that Russian companies would build nuclear power plants in Egypt.

“Companies will be selected at an international tender to be announced by the Egyptian government at the end of the year,” the source was quoted as saying.

An Israeli government source said Jerusalem would have no public or formal comment on the deal, and that in principle Israel had no objection to Egypt’s acquiring nuclear technology as long as Egypt was a member of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which it is, and as long as it would be under ironclad supervision and regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Israel, the official said, could not object to another country’s wanting nuclear energy, as long as it was under tight regulation and supervision.

Egypt currently has two small research reactors.

According to a report by the German news service DPA, the Egyptian independent daily Al-Masri al-Youmquoted an Egyptian source as saying last week that the US was opposed to a potential nuclear cooperation deal between Moscow and Cairo.

The DPA report said US Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman, during a visit to Cairo in January, discussed Egypt’s joining the Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP), a program whereby the US seeks to work with other countries to reprocess spent nuclear fuel for peaceful uses.

Israel’s low-key response on Monday was similar to its response last October when Mubarak announced a plan to build several nuclear power plants, a move that was heralded at the time in the Egyptian press as a major national project.

Israel also refrained from issuing a response when French President Nicolas Sarkozy went to Morocco in October and pledged that France would help that country build a civil nuclear energy industry, or when Yemen signed an agreement in September with a US company to build nuclear plants over the next 10 years.

Indeed, over the last year, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, the UAE, Yemen, Morocco, Libya, Jordan and Egypt have indicated an interest in developing nuclear programs, with Israeli officials saying that if these countries did not want the programs now for nuclear capabilities, they wanted the technology in place to keep “other options open” if Iran developed a bomb.

Israel, though monitoring the developments, has been careful not to take a public stand, partly because as one of the few countries in the world that has not signed the NPT, Jerusalem is not keen on lobbying against nuclear know-how for peaceful needs going to countries that are willing to sign the treaty, something that would focus the limelight on its own unique situation.

In a related development, meanwhile, Turkey on Monday asked for bids on the construction of its first nuclear power plant at the Mediterranean port city of Mersin, a government agency said.

Bids would be accepted until September 24, Turkey’s electricity agency said in a written announcement. The government would guarantee that it would buy all the electricity produced by the nuclear plant.

Turkey has experienced frequent cuts this winter of its natural gas supplies from Iran and Azerbaijan.

Power plants fueled by natural gas produce nearly half of Turkey’s electricity output. Turkey, a NATO member, imports most of its natural gas from Russia and Iran.

Nuclear power is one of the best options Turkey has, Energy Minister Hilmi Guler has said.

Guler said nuclear power should supply 20 percent of Turkey’s energy needs within the next two decades, allowing the country to decrease its reliance on imported gas.

Another spot on the Black Sea coast – Inceburun, in Sinop province – is planned for a second nuclear plant.

Why Are Europe’s Birthrates Declining?

Posted by Job on August 17, 2007

From Albert Mohler’s weblog.
Azure is a serious journal of ideas that states its mission as providing “ideas for the Jewish nation.” In the Summer 2007 edition [Jewish year 5767], assistant editor Noah Pollak deals with the reality of the European baby bust.Pollak deals first with the demographic reality. As he explains, the average number of children a woman will bear (known as the total fertility rate, or TFR) must be stable at 2.1 just to maintain the size of a nation’s population. The baby bust is evident in the fact that the TFR is just 1.89 in France. In Spain the TFR is just 1.1 — a birth rate the editors describe as in a “free fall.” Taken together, Europe’s total TFR is just 1.38.

What does this mean? It means that European nations will soon face the reality of fast-falling population levels — levels that will threaten social stability, economic security, and a host of other social goods. Economic security depends upon a stable or growing population. But economic security is not the only issue at stake — not by a long shot. Many observers believe that growing Muslim birth rates and immigration rates, coupled with a decline in the Christian population, will mean an Islamic future for Europe.

A number of very capable scholars have documented this reality. What Noah Pollak of Azure adds to the picture is serious attention to the question of why people decide not to have children.

Consider this paragraph:

The explanation for Europe’s turn from reproducing its civilization is, in fact, as simple and self-contained as how children themselves are viewed. People avoid having children not because they are irreligious, lack financial means, fear the possibility of divorce, or carry university degrees. Rather, people do not have children because they do not want them: They find the curtailment of personal freedom and the assumption of the decades-long obligation inherent in parenthood unattractive, and they do not want to accept the basic restructuring of life that having a family requires. This is not a product of objective economic or social factors; rather, it is a subjective judgment about the meaning and purpose of one’s life and the civilization in which that life is lived. It is, ultimately, a moral answer to a moral question: The question of the value people ascribe to their own families and their own heritage, in a broader cultural context. Then this:This answer, such as it is, did not take shape in a vacuum. The current generation of child-bearing Europeans came to view their lives through the cultural revolutions engendered by the generation of 1968, the great mass of young people who, ironically, were products of the postwar European baby boom and ascended to power and influence by virtue of their own demographic weight. The cultural upheaval of ’68 was an incongruous synthesis of revolutionary hedonism, political and economic collectivism, and a firm conviction that the West had become or had always been a force for imperialism, warfare, and environmental destruction. To a far greater degree than their counterparts in America, the ’68ers achieved real political power and with it a cultural hegemony which dominates much of French and European political and intellectual life to this day. This is a brilliant argument, pointing directly to the essence of the problem — children mean obligation.  They are needy, expensive, and dependent. People who are committed to personal autonomy as their greatest good will see children as an imposition, not a blessing.I would modify the argument to explain that the eclipse of the Christian worldview in Europe is tied to the very cultural changes the editors rightly identify as contributing to the baby bust.Mr. Pollak points to the nation of Israel as a counter-example to Europe, noting that young people in the (also young) Jewish nation saw the birth rate as a matter of national life or death:While young people in Europe celebrated a newfound awareness of their power and a desire to depart from the traditions of their forebears, their Israeli counterparts were called upon to rescue the Jewish state from annihilation. Young Europeans were looking to the future and seeing an era rendered infinitely malleable by enlightened reason and the good intentions of youth; Israelis looked to the future and saw enemy armies gathering on their borders with the intention of finishing what Hitler had started. Europeans, enamored of trendy, apocalyptic pseudo-science such as the “population bomb” theory, internalized the conviction that their civilization was part of the problem in the world, while Israel fought an existential war that assumed its own civilization to be part of the solution. Is it any wonder that Israeli families continue to thrive while Europe cannot sustain itself? Finally, Pollak suggests that the stability of the American TFR (due to a combination of birth rate and immigration) is due to the fact that “Americans believe in their own nation as a multi-generational effort to bring good to the world.”

He offers a haunting word of warning:  “Rome died from a lack of imperial vigor; Europe may die on its own soil, of its own barrenness.”  No real surprise there.  Barren worldviews lead to barren wombs.

Egypt Arrests Coptic Christians Over Website Postings Critical Of Islam

Posted by Job on August 13, 2007

(Original link here, with its utterly leading headline from this New York Times – owned media outlet.) CAIRO, Egypt: Egyptian authorities have detained two Coptic Christian activists suspected of posting anti-Islamic messages on a Christian web site, a police official and the lawyer for the two said Thursday. State security officers stormed the homes of Adel Fawzy and Peter Ezzat in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, arresting the two on Wednesday and seizing documents and computers, said the police official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media. Fawzy and Ezzat are the founders of the Cairo branch of the Middle East Christian Association, known as MECA, a Canada-based group that advocates Christians rights. Police did not specify which postings had led to the arrest of the two.

Fawzy and Ezzat were expected to face the state prosecutor on Thursday, the police official added. Their lawyer, Mamdouh Nakhleh, said the two worked as a reporter and photographer for the Canada-based organization. He said he believed they would face a hearing as early as Saturday, after the Friday Muslim day of rest.

No charges have been filed yet, Nakhleh told The Associated Press, adding that the two were arrested for “posting stuff without permission.” The authorities allege that they were promoting “deviated Quranic verses and criticism of Islam,” he said.

“I will try to hasten their case before the prosecutor … so they two will not be subjected to any sort of torture or be forced to give any statement that could be harmful in their case,” Nakhleh said.

Cases of torture of suspects inside Egyptian police stations and state security detention centers have drawn much attention after several incidents of police brutality were published on blogs and in local media over the past year.

Meanwhile, a statement on MECA’s Web site said that state security forces broke into and ransacked the homes of Fawzy and Ezzat before arresting them. It said that other members of the organization were targeted and are now in hiding.

The statement added that the organization expects the two would be charged with engaging in missionary work, possession of controversial literature, liaising with foreign organizations and involvement in activities that endanger state security — charges which usually entail heavy prison sentences.

Missionary work can fall under the term of proselytizing, which is illegal under Egyptian law.

The group said the men also may have riled the police in their support for a known Muslim convert to Christianity here. Apostasy is considered a grave sin under Islam.

MECA said its Cairo branch was in the process of being registered legally in Egypt and speculated that authorities may seek ways to block the process. It called on urgent action to free the two men.

Coptic Christians represent about 10 percent of Egypt’s 76 million population and generally live in peace with the Sunni Muslim majority, though occasional sectarian clashes occur.

The Death Of Secularism

Posted by Job on August 10, 2007

by Ronald L. Dart  of Borntowin.net

Hanging labels on people, ideas, or movements is so convenient.  It can even be helpful, as a kind of shorthand to help us categorize ideas and people.  I was labeled recently.  A pastor was trying to figure out where to place me in terms of belief systems, churches, denominations, etc.  After a brief exchange of emails, he decided I was a maverick.

I don’t think he meant it as a compliment, but here in Texas, we know what a maverick is.  It is an unbranded range animal.  When applied to a human, it denotes an independent individual who does not go along with a group or party.  So I figured it was a compliment after all.  For I certainly don’t run with the herd.  That said, I pointed out to the chap that labeling people can become a substitute for thinking, and that is not the best way to understand people or things.

Sometimes you have to look up the meaning of the label.  A good example of this is the word secular, which is showing up more often these days: It means simply, not religious.  When we go a step further and make it an “ism,” we get secularism, which means indifference to, rejection of, or exclusion of, religion and religious considerations.

For a long time, talk show hosts were enjoying bashing liberals so much that those who previously defined themselves as liberal, were now calling themselves progressive.  And really, after all, we all want progress, don’t we? In a few quarters, talking heads and pundits are starting to recognize a different “ism.”  The enemy is not merely liberalism or progressivism.  It is the exclusion of religion and religious considerations from public life-in other words, secularism.

Secularism is not quite the same thing as atheism, although they tend to run in the same channels.  There was a cover article not long ago in one of the major news magazines titled, “The New Atheism.” There have been about five books published in recent months making the case for atheism.  Michael Novak noticed something that could be easily overlooked in all the noise.  He said that there’s an odd defensiveness about all these books-as though they were a sign not of victory but of desperation.  I hadn’t thought about that, but I know in principle that the collapse of an idea is downright scary to people who have lived so confidently in its shadow.  I have seen the same thing in Christian circles when people come face to face with uncomfortable truths about their faith.  The more argumentative a person is, the more insecure he is about his belief.

What I took away from Michael Novak’s article was that “inevitability” of secularism needs to be reexamined because it is, simply, failing.  It is easy to overlook that fact in the steady drumbeat of news.  But just as communism failed spectacularly in the Soviet Union, so secularism is failing in the West.

I want you to listen to my radio program on this theme titled, The Death of Secularism.  It won’t air for some weeks yet, but I am happy to offer it to you right now.  Just click here to listen: . If the embedded link does not work, try this direct link: the_death_of_secularism.mp3

Continuing to keep you informed, Ronald L. Dart

Egypt Fears Muslim Brotherhood Takeover

Posted by Job on July 12, 2007

Original link: Egypt fears Muslim Brotherhood may follow Hamas example

CAIRO — The government has been concerned over how the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip would affect the Islamic opposition in Egypt.Officials and government-sponsored analysts have expressed concern that the Hamas victory would encourage the Islamic opposition to develop military capabilities in an effort to overthrow the regime of President Hosni Mubarak. They said the Interior Ministry has already been examining options against the Muslim Brotherhood, the sponsor of Hamas and the largest opposition group in Egypt.

“The Hamas military victory in Gaza is not what Egypt wanted,” a senior official said. “It makes everything more dangerous.”

The officials said Mubarak has assessed that the Hamas takeover would halt the prospect of a diplomatic breakthrough between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. They said Cairo regarded the Hamas takeover of the Gaza Strip as a victory for Iran and Syria.”In Egypt, there are those seeking to reproduce what Hamas did in the Gaza Strip,” Tariq Hassan, a columnist for the Egyptian state-owned daily Al Ahram said. “For anyone who has the slightest doubt about this and wants proof, it is enough to consider statements by Brotherhood representatives in parliament.”

Hassan said the Hamas victory marked a setback for any Arab country that sought peaceful relations with Israel. The Egyptian analyst said the opposition has compared Cairo to the Palestinian Authority and the Brotherhood to Hamas.

“The Brotherhood holds the same positions and uses the same ideas and statements with which Hamas conducted a coup against the [legitimate] government, and through which it declared the Gaza Strip a rebel region under its rule,” Hassan said.

In April, the Brotherhood began training young men for what officials asserted was a militia. Egyptian authorities arrested more than 30 people after Islamic students held a military-style parade at Al Azhar University that featured the green flag of Hamas.

“For the first time, the Egyptians felt fear when they saw the Al Azhar University students conducting combat displays with the same methods as Hamas, and in the same clothes, with the same slogans and means,” Karam Gabar, chairman of the Egyptian government weekly Ruz Al Yusef, wrote. “The public felt the danger growing under its skin, flowing in its blood, and touching its nerves — a real danger flowing from the depths, and not something imported from abroad.”

Mohammed Al Ibrahim, editor of the state-owned daily Al Gomhouriya, said Hamas comprised the Palestinian branch of the Brotherhood. Al Ibrahim said the Brotherhood was guiding Islamic insurgency groups throughout the world.

“It is possible that Hamas will receive orders from Iran and fulfill them, and then it will drag the region into a destructive total war,” Al Ibrahim said. “It is also possible that Teheran will convince Hamas leaders to repeat Hizbullah’s experience.”

Hillary Clinton Professes To Believe Upon The Resurrection Of Jesus Christ

Posted by Job on July 8, 2007

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/07/us/politics/07clinton.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2&ref=politics She also likes to talk about, you know, “values” and stuff. But the selective set of values and Bible themes that Hillary Clinton chooses to emphasize on … how does that make her any different from – or better than – the religious right, who also traffics in “values” based on selected (and often out of context) Bible themes? That is why I keep claiming that this “religious right values” (see Why Fox News Is Bad For Christianity, Christian Values Do Not Exist, and Christian Values Do Not Exist Part II: The Motivation For Believing A Lie) thing is nothing but a scam that the left will exploit to advance their own agenda one day soon, if not in the form of Hillary Clinton (too much baggage) and Barack Obama (who indeed is looking more and more like he just isn’t cut out to be anything more than a senator no matter how much experience he gets) definitely someone down the line.

As far as Hillary Clinton claiming to believe upon the resurrection, this goes back to the same doctrinal issue that I was speaking of in Final Answer: The Sinner’s Prayer Is Not Only Unnecessary For Salvation, It May Not Be Expedient! Look, lots of people were raised from the dead, Elijah and Enoch were bodily assumed into heaven, and Muslims believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin. So, it is vital that one believes in the deity and person of Jesus Christ – whether He was fully man and fully God and is part of the Holy Trinity, which this article specifically did not deal with. Believing that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, was the Lamb of God that died to take away our sins, was raised from the dead, and even that He was the Moshiach (Messiah) is not enough … you have to believe that He was GOD. And still more: one of the most important – and most overlooked – verses in the Bible that has implications for salvation is James 2:19 – “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” So yes, evil spirits know all of these things.

So, the question that has to be asked of both the religious left and the religious right: what makes us different? What separates us from the world? What separates us from the demons that know that there is a God because they have seen Him? The demons that know that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation? I propose that it is John 14:15 – “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” And I am not talking about the partial list of commandments that the religious left likes to keep. I am not talking about the partial list of commandments that the religious right likes to speak of. I am talking about all of them! THAT is what separates us from the world. THAT is what separates us from demons. And whether you are a Republican in the religious right or a Democrat in the religious left, if you think that you are somehow standing for God’s righteousness and advancing the kingdom of heaven by promoting a bunch of cultural, social, economic, religious, and political beliefs that are based on not so much a faulty incomplete understanding of God’s Word (though that often is a problem) but a desire to only promote and personally keep the part of God’s Word that you like and agree with and make you feel good, then you are only deceiving yourselves.

And that is why the religious left is now able to copy off the religious right’s playbook. Do not claim that it is not going to work unless they start calling abortion and homosexuality sin. News flash: the majority of the nation supports abortion and homosexuality, including a huge percentage of Republicans. There are plenty of moderates and independents that profess Christianity that either support or simply do not care about abortion and gay rights that the Democrats will be able to reach on election day with their religion talk. This false dichotomy that we like to pretend where the churches are either very conservative fundamentalist on the right and are ordaining gay ministers and abortion doctors on the left: that is not reality. The truth is that most churches are pretty much “in the center”, promote a mix of traditional and revisionist doctrine, and pretty much stay out of the controversial social, political, and religious issues of the day. The Democrats will well be able to come up with rhetoric that will allow them to chase that sizable contingent of voters – ELCA Lutherans, PCUSA Presbyterians, mainstream Baptists and Methodists, Episcopals that support neither Schori or Akinola, most Catholics, etc. while not alienating their base.

Before the religious right starts screaming “its unfair!” please remember that the religious right was only emulating the organizing strategies and tactics of the left, especially the civil rights movement. Just as Martin Luther King, Jr. and similar used religious organizations and selective Bible themes to pursue what was really a secular agenda, the religious right did the same. Neither side sought to truly increase the righteousness of this nation the only true way: which is to increase the number of Christian converts, and to call the existing Christians to righteousness in accordance to scripture. Instead, both movements pushed the very successful message that your righteousness is determined not by your belief in and commitment to the Bible, but rather your political, social, and cultural beliefs. There was no evangelism imperative, because it was all about being better, more moral, than the people on the other side of the ideological divide. And there was no call to repentance, because each side told their own that they were fine: they were already righteous, and it was THE OTHER SIDE that was responsible for the evil in the nation and in the world. Why? Because whether you are in the religious right or the religious left the same message is taught: that you can be a better person and make the world a better place apart from the Bible. So, it leads to the sort of madness that exists today where both the Christian right and the Christian left defend their own leaders and attack the leaders on the other side when they both promote many of the same policies and behave themselves in much the same way. Neither the Christian right or the Christian left is committed to advancing the cause of Jesus Christ in this nation, because both have attached themselves to a political agenda that allows them to ignore the cause of advancing Jesus Christ in their own lives while simultaneously telling themselves that it is their political views that makes them more righteous than the next guy; that if there is a God in heaven then it will be on the basis of their political beliefs that they will be saved and the next guy will perish.

Well, now it looks like the Democrats are finding a way to give the religious middle what the religious left and the religious right have had for decades: a sense of false spiritual maturity, righteousness, and pride that you get from putting your hope in worldly beliefs rather than God who is a spirit. I just want you Republicans to know that before you start howling and crying when this new “religious moderate” thing gets off the ground and becomes the new media buzzword, and you social conservatives get angry when Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, etc. leave you behind to fight the Democrats over them, that you need to know that you made it possible. You were the ones that convinced yourselves that you were standing for God and advancing his kingdom by dealing with people like Ralph Reed, Scooter Libby, Jack Abramoff, Mark Foley, etc. It is as bad as the religious left thinking that supporting race hustling poverty pimps and people who supported the Soviets during the Cold War would somehow result in this nation’s race, class, and gender divisions evaporating.

Is the point of this entry that Hillary Clinton is not truly a Christian or is not truly saved? No. The point is that from where I sit and from what I see, there is no basis to presume that virtually any member of the religious right is any more saved than Hillary Clinton is. Put it like this: if you were to poll most conservative Christian Republicans as to which one of Hillary Clinton or George W. Bush is more likely to be born again, the overwhelming majority would pick Bush, and the same would apply down the line for virtually any matchup between similar Democrats and Republicans. What would be their basis for making such a decision? Political party and political views. And this is the really sad part: given the choice between a Democrat that they perceived to be saved and a GOPer that they perceive to be not, who would they pick? I bet that a great many of them would pick the GOPer and trust the party rather than the saved Democrat and trust God. (Incidentally, it is not as if the Christian Democrats are any better.) And that is the really scary part, and why this nation needs a real revival instead of a religious political movement.

Christian Values Do Not Exist Part II: The Motivation For Believing A Lie

Posted by Job on June 27, 2007

Please see part I, Christian Values Do Not Exist, before you read this if you have not already.

The amazing part is that professed Christians condemn themselves with their own words concerning the “Christian values” lie. How? They freely admit that “one does not have to be a Christian in order to share, appreciate, respect, and uphold Christian values.” If so, how can it be of God, and God be in it? These people need to read the Gospel of John again; it tells us that things that come from God and will be respected by God on judgment day will be misunderstood, hated, rejected, and warred against by the world. God and the things of Him are the light, the world is darkness, and the darkness does not comprehend the light. So, people that regard “Christian values” are walking after darkness and not after light. Example: the Washington Post article linked to in this post The New Missionary Field: “State Church” Europe Where Christianity Is Practically Dead speaks of how Christians fought to preserve the position of a pastor that acknowledged being an atheist because “one does not have to believe in God to teach Christian values.” A more salient example: many people, including Christians, convert to Mormonism, Islam, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jesus Only oneness pentecostalism because of the strong piety and oustanding values emphasized by their systems of belief and culture. I know that I mention Mitt Romney more than I should in this weblog, but the media and political analysts speak of how well the fellow is doing very well in heavily Christian areas because he showcases his own history of hard work and achievement, personal integrity, and great family. Why? Because so many people have bought into the “Christian values” lie.

The true underlying motivation here is NATIONALISM. We want to love not only our country, but the notions of western culture on which our nation is based. Since we cannot go around kicking everyone that refuses to convert to Christianity out of our country (which is something that God did not even command the Jews to do; “strangers” were allowed to dwell in Israel under certain conditions), we have to create something else that we can all share for the purpose of having national unity along some set of lines that we can all feel good about. Since so many of these people are Christian, they believe the deception that this set of social, cultural, traditional, and political beliefs have anything to do with true Christianity. (I will grant you that some of these beliefs may well be religious, but none of them are spiritual).

Why? Because they want to. It makes them feel good about themselves. It is … man – pleasing! It is an easy way for man to become convinced of the notion that there is some instrinsic good within himself, and thereby divert to himself the praise and honor and glory that belongs only to God. And such people desire this so strongly, to receive the praise and declarations of being just and righteous that only God deserves, that they are willing to give people that hate and reject Jesus Christ a claim to it; to utterly defile it just so they can keep enough of it to glorify themselves! The very concept of “Christian values” is nothing more than the third thing that satan tempted Eve with in the Garden of Eden regarding the tree of knowledge of good and evil (possible only because satan used what was present in Eve already): the pride of life, the desire to be or to make ourselves into something that we are not. And it plays upon the lust of the eyes, which is coveting, a desire to have something that is not ours. Well, people who follow after the notion of Christian values desire to consider themselves inherently good (based on where they were born; being born in America or another western or “Christian” nation and “in a Christian home” makes you inherently better than being born elsewhere … you even have strands of hyper – Calvinism that claims that God places those that He has predestined and elected to salvation in Christian nations and homes for that purpose, and for that reason Christians should not bother with third world missionary activity; J. R. Ryland is reputed to have told the great missionary William Carey “young man sit down … when it pleases God to convert the heathen He will do it without your aid or mine”) and of course desire to be viewed as being virtuous and great – part of a great society of people – based on it.

Haven’t you wondered why certain Christians will get as angry – or angrier – at attacks on their country or their leaders as they would if you attacked their Jesus Christ? The reason is simple: if you attack Jesus Christ, you attack Jesus Christ. But if you attack their country or its leaders, you attack THEM, because you are denigrating their own image of virtue that comes from being associated with a “Christian nation and culture.” It is really  self – idolatry, self – worship. People who sell themselves out to and give themselves over to this sort of thing will do anything to preserve it! Case in point: the testimony of the South Africa Truth and Reconciliation Commission. When the leaders of the apartheid regime that committed such grotesque crimes against innocent people were asked what motivated their evil, their answer was “fear of communism.” While communism is certainly evil and should be in all cases opposed, what they really feared losing was their precious nation and self – concept of virtue and worth based on it! Indeed, cannot you see the anti – Christ, the beast of Revelation, the son of perdition, the man of sin, building an entire system based on these beliefs and exploiting it?

And I have to tell you: what really seems like a taste of this to me is this “Left Behind” false doctrine, especially that in the book “The Remnant” and in the video game “Left Behind: Eternal Forces.” You know, the “convert or kill” thing. “The enemy” are the typical bugbears of the right wing: the United Nations, urban criminals, and similar. SoldierServant does a great job of pointing this out in these three posts: Should Christians Commit Murder For “The Cause”?, How Can We Judge If Christianity Is Still True?, and False Doctrine In “Left Behind”: The Remnant Teaches Against the Doctrine of the God-Sent Strong Delusion. I will not go so far as some in saying that dispensationalism is the problem in and of itself, but clearly their “convert or kill” notion is not justified anywhere in scripture (which instead speaks of fleeing Matthew 24:15-21 or salvation through martyrdom Revelation 20:4). And this goes back to the Iraq venture. We probably will never know what Bush’s motivation for invading Iraq was. I say that it is for the same reason that he supports illegal immigration, supply side economics, corporate welfare, abortion, and homosexual rights (see SoldierServant‘s President Bush — Bad Fruits versus Good Fruits: merely to increase the amount of violence, fear, chaos, warfare, disease, and economic uncertainty in the world; a precondition for the anti – Christ to take power). But I am certain the reason why so many good Christians supported Bush in the Iraq War – and still do – is because (just like the South African whites) they have been deceived into thinking that Muslim terror threatens their “Christian nation”, and therefore their notions of being intrinsically good and being worthy of being worshipped and praised by virtue of their birthright and citizenship will go with it.

Consider this: Jerry Falwell said on CNN that he was willing to sacrifice biblical positions on abortion and gay marriage in order to support a President that was strong on national security because the key to defending our Christian values is defending America, and if America falls to Islam our Christian nation goes with it. For that reason, he stated that he would be willing to vote for an atheist if he was the best at defending our nation. What happened to just trusting God that He would defend our nation, or that no matter what happens God’s Will shall be done? There is no place in that in the heart of one who follows after Christian values, because the one who sells out to those wants not to glorify God, but rather to hold onto that which he uses to glorify himself.

And through religious right politics, many Christians are trying to use the power of the state to impose upon an unwilling public a system of beliefs that will not even save them because promoting such values, values which they themselves admit are not spiritual because non – Christians can have them, exalts themselves. Can you imagine what such people will do when their strong delusions of self – righteousness through their culture and national identity are taken away from them? Please recall, for a second, that Hitler used notions of goodness inherent in the Weimar Republic (Germany) by virtue of their birth, ethnicity, culture, state, etc. preached in the state churches to sell his Nazi program. Also realize that John Hagee is pushing George W. Bush to bomb Iran to speed up the great tribulation because he cannot bear to see Hillary Clinton get elected in 2008 (which would represent the final stake through the heart of the religious right movement), and millions of “Christian Zionists” are ignoring all of the Bible prophecies that have to be fulfilled (there is no temple in Israel, there are no sacrifices, the gospel has not been preached to all the Gentiles) before Jesus Christ can return according even to their own  dispensational doctrines!  This notion of worshipping man through worldly things like values rather than worshipping God in spirit and in truth is very dangerous. It has caused great evil throughout history, and will cause the greatest of sorrows in the time to come. I urgently entreat all of those who wish for heaven to be your reward to turn aside from this abomination immediately and begin instead to trust God alone for your deliverance and your salvation.

Jesus Christ To The Religious Left: Why Do You Call Me Lord Lord And Do Not Do What I Say? Luke 6:46

Posted by Job on June 15, 2007

Please click www.liveprayer.com/signup.htm to sign up to receive this devotional in your email. *Personal note: This is one of the times when Pastor Keller’s views do not line up with my own, but Keller is still a Bible – based preacher so there is nothing wrong with providing this devotional.

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”  Luke 6:46

The “religious left.”  In case you have been sleeping, there is a new group
of people in our nation who call themselves the “religious left.” This is a relatively new term so you may not be familiar with it.  That is why I felt it was so critical to take the time today to insure you not only understood what it means, but who actually makes up this new group of people. Forty years ago, this group didn’t even exist. They have actually evolved and
grown tremendously over the past decade.

The “religious left” is made up of people who identify themselves as
Christians and hold strong religious beliefs as well as sharing left-wing
ideals.  Obviously, this group has risen up in opposition to those who have
been tagged the “religious right” or the “Christian right.”  The “Christian
right” is that group of Bible-believing Christians who are politically
active and seek to elect to office those candidates who hold to Biblical
values on the key spiritual issues of our day that are also political
issues.

These would be issues like abortion and life related matters, gay marriage,
family issues, the proliferation of the pornography industry, and the drive
to remove God from the public square.  Those in the “religious left”
actually take an anti-Biblical position on these issues and are also heavily
involved in the ecumenical movement, environmental issues, opposing war for
any reason, world hunger, and social issues like healthcare, welfare, and
education.

There is nothing wrong with pursing these noble social issues, Believers
should be more involved on those fronts.  The problem with this group is
their anti-Biblical position on the key spiritual issues of our day and
their involvement in these ecumenical movements that require you to set
aside the Absolute Truths of the Bible.

I watched with interest a last week as CNN carried a special program about
faith with the leading Democratic Candidates who are vying for their parties
nomination in the 2008 Presidential election.  Each one dealt with various
faith-related issues in the context of their own personal faith.  I watched
in amazement as each one talked about how important their faith was to them,
how it guided them, how it gave them strength, and went out of their way to
position themselves as people of great faith.

Like my dear mother used to tell me, talk is cheap.  I refuse to try and
judge their heart, that is something only God can and will do.  However, I
have every right to judge them on their actions in accordance with God’s
Word.  How can you say you are a person of faith, yet vote to support the
legalized slaughter of over 4,000 innocent babies every day?  How can you
say you are a person of faith, yet vote to redefine God’s Holy Institution
of Marriage?  How can you say you are a person of faith, yet support special
rights for people who have chosen to engage in perverted sex acts God calls
an abomination, including their ability to adopt children into their deviant
lifestyle?

I guess the real question becomes, what is their faith really in?  It is
inconsistent to say you are person of faith yet continually take a stand in
complete opposition to God’s Word.  Jesus said that if you love Me, you will
obey Me.  That means His Word.  Of course, those in the “religious left” has
been born out of the liberal “churches” of our day who make a mockery of
Christ as they operate in open rebellion to the Truth of the Bible while
claiming to be followers of Christ.

They support the legalized slaughter of babies, redefining marriage to
include men with men and women with women, perverting the family by brining
children into homes with homosexual parents, and embrace ecumenical
fellowships with all of the cults and false religions of the world.  They
deny the inspiration and inerrancy of the Bible, have rejected God’s Word
for the Absolute Truth it represents, and have bought into the lie of the
world that there are “many roads that lead to God.”  These are the people
who make up the “religious left!”

I love you and care about you so much.  It is beyond me how a person can
consider themselves a Christian, which means they are a follower of Christ
and automatically a follower of His Word, yet take a public position in
complete opposition to that Word.  You better wake up, since this is the
largest growing segment of Christendom, this apostate group who calls
themselves Christians but go to churches who operate in complete  rebellion
to Christ and the Bible

This is the group that is Biblically illiterate since they don’t even
believe the Bible to be true.  These are the people who see nothing wrong
with electing a member of a satanic cult to the White House because they
think a Mormon is a Christian.  They are the politically correct crowd who
has bought the lie a woman has the right to kill her baby.  They are the
group who lambastes those who speak out against the sin of homosexuality,
calling them names like “intolerant” and “hateful.”

The “religious left” is a group who will wield incredible political
influence in the upcoming 2008 election.  They are mostly made up of people
who call themselves Christians, but support the things Christ and the Bible
condemn.  Pray for these people since you can’t call yourself a follower of
Christ, yet stand on the opposite side of Christ on so many issues.  Truth
is not what we want it to be, it is what God says it is.  We don’t have the
luxury of giving our heart and life to Christ and then live any way we want.
A true follower of Christ is a follower of His Word.  Jesus said, “Why do
you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”

Your friend and brother in Christ,
Bill Keller

Christopher Hitchens: The Fool Says In His Heart There Is No God Psalms 14:1

Posted by Job on June 12, 2007

“The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ ”  Psalms 14:1

Why does the secular media love Christopher Hitchens and his new book, “God
is not Great, How Religion Poisons Everything.”  The Devotional today is NOT
a book review, the only book I review is the Bible.  The Devotional today
isn’t even about Christopher Hitchens, the British-born author, journalist,
and political commentator.  It is about the secular media’s love affair with
anyone who will boldly state there is no God and lambaste people of faith.
There is an insatiable appetite in the marketplace to eliminate God, dismiss
the Bible as Truth, and thoroughly reject faith in Jesus.

Of course the first logical question is why?  The answer is no more
complicated than the fact that the masses who have made the choice to live
in open rebellion to God do not want to be held accountable for their
choices.  Since they cannot see a person called God despite the overwhelming
evidence of His existence and presence, they have gone through the tortured
mental exercise of simply denying there even is a God.  In their drive to
live without being held accountable for their actions and choices, they have
taken the position that there simply is no God.

Once a person makes that foolish choice, you can easily see how rejecting
the Bible, rejecting Jesus Christ, embracing a theory like evolution, and
supporting others who are involved in every type of sin imaginable follows.
Obviously if you deny there even is a God, it makes it easy to dismiss the
book God wrote, the Bible, as simply a book “written by men” or a million
other idiotic responses you will get from people who have rejected the
Absolute Truth of God’s Word.  As I share with you often, the number one
reason people choose to reject the Bible is because it is the very Truth
that judges them.  Once again, those who choose to live in rebellion to God
and His Truth do not want to be held accountable for their actions.

How does a ridiculous “theory” like evolution become accepted by the
mainstream culture as the explanation for man’s existence?  Men can say they
never have seen God, therefore there is no God.  However, they are still
left with the little problem of explaining how we came to be.  So they have
turned to this laughable notion that we evolved from a drop of pond scum, to
a monkey, and voila, here we are!  LOL!  Of course they can never tell you
where that drop of pond scum, or where that first cell came from, or the
“big bang” that some claim started it all.  In the end, those who embrace
this “theory” are left flopping around like a fish out of water.

Sadly, when people choose to reject God they end up aligning themselves with
others who have also rejected God.  Again, this is how you end up with a
society that supports the slaughtering of innocent babies.  This is how you
end up with a society legitimizing and accepting the unnatural and unhealthy
sexual perversion of homosexuality.  Jesus said you can’t serve two masters.
Those who reject God and His Truth, have chosen to serve sin and follow
satan.  The Bible proclaims in the Book of James that, “You adulterous
people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God?
Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”

THOSE WHO DENY THE EXISTENCE OF GOD, THOSE WHO REJECT THE TRUTH OF GOD’S
WORD, THOSE WHO REFUSE TO GIVE THEIR LIFE TO JESUS BY FAITH, ARE AN ENEMY OF
GOD!!!

Satan is the “prince of the power of the air” for a short season.  He has
dominion over the airwaves.  Why do you think you see a steady diet of sin,
of blasphemy, of the lies of the world, of anything that will lead people
away from God, Biblical Truth and faith in Christ 24/7/365 on TV,  the
radio, the movies, the Internet, and every form of media there is?  This is
why when an avowed atheist like Hitchens writes a book declaring God is not
great and tries to make a case that religion is the cause of all of man’s
and the world’s problems, the media falls over itself to put him on.

Let me help Chris.  God IS GREAT!  God is the Creator of the heavens and the
earth and all that exists including OUR CREATOR!  He is right that religion
does poison everything, since Christianity is not a religion, it is a faith.
The false religions and cults of the world are simply man’s spiritual
rebellion to the God of the Bible and His Truth.  The poison is actually the
sin that infests every aspect of our existence due to man’s rejection of God
and Biblical Truth.  That is why the only hope for man now and for all
eternity is faith in Jesus Christ.  He and He alone is the only answer.

I love you and care about you so much.  Sadly, Christopher Hitchens will
take his last breath one day soon and at that moment stand before the very
God whose existence he denies.  Sadly, at that moment he will be judged for
his sins and cast into the eternal fires of hell from which there will be no
escape.  That is the fate which awaits all of those who die rejecting Christ
as their Savior.  God loved His fallen creation so much that He made a way
for man to have an eternal relationship with Him by sending Jesus to die on
the cross as payment for man’s sins.  It is God’s desire that none be lost,
that all repent and be saved.

However, God gave Christopher Hitchens and all men the free will to make
their own choices.  They are free to love Him and live for Him, or reject
Him and even believe He doesn’t exist.  Each person has to make this choice
for themselves during their brief life, nobody can make it for them.  I pray
today that Hitchens will come to a place in his life where he will open his
heart to not only the existence of God, but God’s love for Him and the fact
Jesus died for his sins so that he would not have to spend eternity in hell.
Pray for him today, since God has given him a great gift to communicate and
he could become a powerful man of God and advocate for the Christian faith.

I will pray today for those people in your life who like Hitchens, have
chosen to deny the existence of God, reject the Bible as Truth, and have
refused to surrender their lives to Christ.  I pray that they will come to a
place in their life where God will be real to them, where His Word will
become the Truth they live by, and they will accept Jesus into their hearts
and lives by faith.  That is why it is so critical to preach the Gospel
without compromise and to reach out into the marketplace since that is where
the lost live.  That is also why we must find ways to bring the message of
God’s Truth and of Christ’s love to the secular media since that is the
communication tool the enemy uses to lead people away from God and to hell.

The fool says in his heart there is no God.  Most of those fools do come to
a place, maybe only once, when they are ripe to hear the Truth and the fact
there is not only a God, but a God who loves them!  It is at that moment
when the hardened hearts of men soften, they fall to their knees, and cry
out for Jesus to save them!  I see it happen every day here at Liveprayer.
Why do you think the fire burns within my belly to wake up each day and do
all I can to reach the lost and hurting?  It is God’s desire that NONE BE
LOST, that ALL COME TO REPENTANCE!  I possess the words of everlasting life,
how can I sit back and watch people die and go to hell without doing all I
can to let them know that Jesus loves them and wants to give them life, and
life everlasting!!!
