How The Penn State University Child Molestation Case Demonstrates The Existence Of God

Posted by Job on November 11, 2011

Make no mistake friends, God exists. God is real. Should you countenance thoughts otherwise, this case involving Jerry Sandusky and his committing unspeakable crimes of violation against a number of young boys proves it. This case demonstrates the existence of God by demonstrating the existence of evil. Now of course, evil is not some deity that is the opposite of God who contests God, as dualistic religions and philosophies propose. Neither is evil some force (whether personal or impersonal) as again some religions or philosophies claim, i.e. the “karma” of eastern religions and the New Age ideas that influence them. Instead, Gotquestions.org (a Christian ministry) provides a very suitable Bible-based definition:

A dictionary definition of evil is “morally reprehensible, sinful, wicked.” The definition of evil in the Bible falls into two categories: evil against one another (murder, theft, adultery) and evil against God (unbelief, idolatry, blasphemy). From the prohibition against eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:9), to the destruction of Babylon the Great, the embodiment of evil to come (Revelation 18:2), the Bible speaks of evil.

So allow it to be said, from a reverse-logic standpoint, that because evil exists – as the Bible clearly bears witness of – then God must necessarily exist also. Moreover, God must exist as the answer to evil, the one who defeats evil, which the Bible also bears witness of. Great, unspeakable, incomprehensible craven crimes against the innocent is evidence of the existence of evil, evidence of a great problem with our existence that must be overcome lest we be destroyed by it, and evidence of a solution to this pressing existential problem and threat that only God can provide. If there is nothing more powerful than evil save God, then God must exist. It is said that love is more powerful than evil. This is so, and the Bible bears witness that God is love and that God is loving.
‘Tis tempting to deny that the actions of Jerry Sandusky were in fact attributable to evil, which one might accuse of being some abstract idea. Instead, one can propose a more rational, reasonable scientific root cause: that Sandusky is simply disturbed, one possessing an abnormal brain biology or chemistry that causes him to both have abnormal urges and be unable to restrain himself from acting on them; that indeed he might have an inability to discern or respond to reality. Legitimate medical science has proven that such is the case with a number of people, indeed those that have committed monstrous crimes against individuals and humanity. And yes, the problem of evil must be explained in such a way that deals with cases as these, just as explanations are needed for such things as natural disasters, epidemics, and stillborn children that lack an identifiable human villain, antagonist or cause.

But in this case, one not need to consider (solely) Jerry Sandusky when it comes to evil. Instead, we have other figures with regards to this case such as Mike McQueary, Joe Paterno, and many other figures at Penn State University and the surrounding community who had knowledge of the crimes of Sandusky for many years and failed to act in a manner that would have punished the guilty and protected the innocent. These figures chose not to act because of the wealth, power and prestige associated with college athletics, in particular Pennsylvania State University football. 1 Titus 6:10 says “For the love of money is the root of all evil!” At other points in the Bible, the contrast between mammon – the desire for money, power and privilege – and the things of God are given, as are the people who seek the former verses the latter. Thus, even if we deny that Sandusky is evil, then the actions of those who chose not to act in the interests of those that Sandusky victimized and to protect him from committing further harm most certainly was! So the monstrous behavior associated with this case was clearly evil, and evil on this scale demonstrates the need for one with the power and desire to defeat it, and this need can be met only by God.

If God hates and can overcome evil, why does He suffer its existence in the first place? The reason is that the existence of evil was the cost of accomplishing creation. Only God is perfect, containing perfect power, knowledge and righteousness. Thus, anything and everything that is not God will inevitably come to a state of imperfection, and this imperfection is either evil itself, or allows for evil events to occur. So, though creation was not evil at the time that God finished it, creation did what was inevitable, which was lapse into an imperfect, evil state.

The Bible describes this occurring both with Satan in Ezekiel 28:13-19 and Isaiah 14:12-17, and with Adam in Genesis 2-3. The Bible states that both Adam and Satan were created perfect (see Genesis 1:27 and Genesis 1:31 concerning Adam and Ezekiel 28:15 concerning Satan) but that they both abandoned that perfect state of their own accord, through no fault or action of God and without being attributable to any flaw or defect in their making or original condition. God did not create evil, but instead evil was the inevitable result of creation. As God did not cause or force the actions of Adam or Satan, being responsible for creation does not make God responsible for the evil in creation.

That creates the question: if God knows all things, then He knew that His creation would lapse into imperfection and that evil would result. This means that God was willing to allow the existence of evil. Why, then, did God allow the existence of evil, even if He is not to be blamed for evil? The answer is this: God allowed the existence of evil in order to accomplish a greater good: for the glory of His Son. 1 Colossians 1:16 states that all creation was done according to the will of God the Father for God the Son. For God the Father to glorify, honor and please God the Son was the greater good that was accomplished by suffering the existence of evil. This can be put into better perspective when one realizes that though evil will only exist for a time, the exaltation of God’s Son that came as a result of creation will last forever!

It is easy to doubt and mock and say “God was willing to allow the existence of evil because it cost Him and His Son nothing; that His creation that He claims to love – including sentient human beings – had to bear all the negative costs and effects.” Now be not deceived: even were this so, it would be perfectly appropriate and within God’s rights, being that He is the sole Owner and Master of whatever He chooses to create for whatever purposes He chooses to create it. However, it should be said that this is not so! Again, it is not so that creation alone must bear the negative effects of evil; that God kept Himself unaffected and unscathed by such horrible events as what Mike McQueary saw being done to a juvenile boy by Jerry Sandusky yet refused to intervene to save the juvenile, though being a 27 year old former football player he certainly had the ability to. Instead, though He was by no means obligated or required to, God demonstrated the legitimacy and the extent of His love for creation by giving up the very Son for whose glory creation was accomplished in the first place to die on a cross!

You see, the existence of evil in creation was no mere set of bad facts. Instead, it was a situation that required a remedy. It created a debt that had to be paid. It was a crime for which something had to be punished. God could have remedied the situation by simply destroying creation, all of it, forever. But instead, God chose to have His Son, totally innocent and blameless of all imperfection and evil, provide the remedy by paying the debt, by taking on all the punishment upon Himself. God’s Son, Jesus Christ, did this by dying on a cross in place of creation. By paying this debt, this allowed creation – or some part of it anyway – to remain forever for the joy and happiness of God’s Son – who was resurrected from the dead – and as this same Son of God is forever the joy and happiness of His Father, this state of affairs is certainly appropriate. Thus, the logic of the greater good of allowing evil to exist for a time for the joy of God the Son and God the Father for an eternity becomes explicit, apparent and utterly reasonable. Suffering the existence of evil was a great price, but one that God was willing to pay with the blood of His own Son. Far from being the “cosmic child abuse” that some doubters propose, the truth is that God’s Son – also divine and one with His Father and with His Father’s Spirit – is a willing participant, is manifestly pleased with the arrangement, and benefit to Him (and His Father) far outlasts and exceeds (in value and duration) the very real and significant loss.

So whenever you learn of – or experience – any great evil, though you may and should mourn it, always remember: the occurrence of this evil does manage to powerfully demonstrate that God exists. So, remember that the God who does exists has already paid the price of evil – through His own Son on a cross – and will one day put an end to all evil forever. God’s creation will endure, but the evil will not. This does leave one final pressing issue: your fate. Will you be part of the creation that endures forever, providing joy and delight to God’s Son while receiving great benefits from this existence (and absent any and all negative effects or considerations) yourself? Or will you be included in the portion of creation that is destroyed when all evil is destroyed? The answer to this is simple: if you renounce and turn away from all of the evil that you have done and thereby represent and believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died to pay the debt incurred by your evil and was resurrected from the dead, then you will be among the portion of creation that remains. Otherwise, you will be among the portion of creation that is destroyed. (As time will no longer exists – for time is part of creation – the process of your destruction will take place in eternity and last for an eternity.)

For make no mistake, even if you had no part in this incident, we have all committed evil, if not according to our own standards, according to God’s standards. Though the debt incurred by your evil actions has already been paid for by Jesus Christ, the Bible makes it clear that only those who renounce their evil actions and ways and believe in Jesus Christ will have their paid debt applied. It is the same as having won a contest, but having to go present yourself and your ticket to those running the contest to claim your prize. Though your debt has been paid, one has to renounce his evil actions and tendencies and believe in the Sonship, Lordship, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ to have that paid debt “applied to their accounts.” In order to further explain and assist you in this process, please click on “The Three Step Salvation Plan” link below, which contains information presented in both written and video form. I entreat and implore you to do so – to heed and believe – immediately. Thank you.

The Necessity Of The Holy Trinity

Posted by Job on October 26, 2011

Motivated at least in part by the current controvery over oneness heretic T.D. Jakes, (also here and here) please read two very good pieces on the importance of the Holy Trinity. Hopefully, this will help Christians understand that we are to separate with heretics, not dialogue with them.

Are We All Christian Scientists Now?

Posted by Job on June 17, 2011

Sorry to feature homosexuality in back-to-back posts, but they are in response to a post Is It A New Day For Baptists And Homosexuality? that dealt with the changing approach that many evangelical and fundamental Christians are taking towards the homosexuality issue. Allow me to propose that the “need” to deal with this issue differently is not because of some new or better way to read the Bible that didn’t exist 30 – let alone 300 – years ago, but rather because mainstream society has chosen to view the sin of homosexuality in a different way. And make no mistake: a major reason why mainstream society has moved toward embracing homosexuality is that so many scientists have declared homosexuality to be a natural, in-born “orientation” as opposed to a lifestyle choice. So, the scientists lead, and Christians – along with everyone else – follows.

This, incidentally, includes Christians who take the seemingly orthodox position that being born a homosexual is no excuse, for we are all born in sin, which makes the “born this way” homosexuals as obligated to resist evil as anybody else. I say “seemingly orthodox” because where is the Biblical evidence that anyone is born a homosexual? Are people also born adulterers, thieves and murderers? Is there a “blasphemy gene” or an “idolatry orientation”? While the Bible does tell us that we are all born sinners due to the federal headship of Adam, and that fallen mankind has a sin nature making us predisposed to sin, and that sound Biblical theology lets us know that our lacking God’s perfect attributes means that all who are not God will fall short of God’s standards and thereby sin, where does the Bible say that anyone is born to a specific type of sin?

There is more evidence against it than for it. For instance, though Jesus Christ did call Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed Him, the “son of perdition”, Iscariot did not betray Jesus Christ because he was “born that way.” Instead, the Bible stated that Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus Christ after Satan entered and possessed him! And on the issue of homosexuality, rather than calling this sin a product of nature, the Apostle Paul in Romans 1:26-27 stated that homosexuality is “that which is against nature” and “leaving the natural use of” the body! So, how can one be born a homosexual on one hand, and against nature/leaving the natural use of your body on the other? We only countenance such notions because the scientists say so!

Now if anyone would have an agenda to stand up for science and a need for Christianity and science to be reconciled and integrated, it would be me, an engineer by education who works in technology by trade. Indeed, were science given the highest level of esteem, one that exceeds all reproach, I would benefit in terms of pay and reputation! But despite any personal benefits that I might derive from taking an alternate position, I must endorse the view of John MacArthur when he says that science is not a valid hermeneutic for interpreting the Bible! And as legitimate Christians are Bible-believing and Bible-based, we must choose the Bible over science.

Some say that no such choice has to be made. Why is this belief so common, it must be asked? Why is choosing the Bible over science so much harder than, say, choosing the Republican Party over the Democratic Party (over issues like abortion, homosexuality, school prayer and opposition to communism)? The reason is that in our culture, we have made science into an idol. We look to science, and not to God, for our daily bread! We attribute our wealth and power to our many scientific breakthroughs, which create everything from medicines to keep us alive and healthy to consumer products to drive our economy to weapons that allow us to win wars. And yes, even for many, a religious context is placed on this. How often do we attribute the superiority of our culture to its reliance on science, and then belittle other cultures for being backwards? It is not a far a leap to then state that our culture is superior because of its being shaped by Christianity, while, for example, Middle Eastern culture is backwards because of Islam, or native cultures are undesirable because of animism. It is similar to another idol of our culture, democracy, and yet another – capitalism – and indeed,  the exaltation of science, democracy and capitalism by American Christians is central to the “Americanity” or “Ameritianity” syncretism.

Because of this, few Christians are willing to simply stand up and say “I choose the Bible over science.” Instead, most of us meekly follow behind and adapt to whatever framework the scientists erect, and we strive to find ways where “legitimate science proves the Bible right!” (a major emphasis of apologetics). Case in point: how many Christians are much more comfortable with using psychology to explain moral and social problems as opposed to sin or – gasp! – demon spirits? Thanks to psychology, Christians get to appear “scientific” and therefore “educated” and “respectable” by talking about sin less and less, and about evil spirits practically never.

One should point out that it was not always this way. Science has not always been such a prominent measure of the worth of a society or individual. Indeed, this is a recent phenomenon, a direct result of the absolutely breathtaking scientific innovations that were unimaginable even a few decades ago, plus the similarly unconscionable growth and concentration of wealth and power that resulted. In prior times, people and nations were not judged by their scientific prowess, but by high culture: art, literature and religion. It was the lack of those things, and not of scientific prowess, that caused many people and cultures to be considered “savage”, “barbarian”, “brutish”, “Philistines” etc. That things have changed so dramatically and rapidly is evidence that man’s heart is indeed after mammon, because the way to wealth and power is to build the better mousetrap, not compose the better symphony! We have gone from making it a state priority to sponsor a large, vibrant community of artists capable of making beautiful, Christian-themed music, artwork, architecture and literature because of how those things reflect and communicate God’s attributes to trying to weave evolution into the Genesis narrative because the scientists say so, and done so in an incredibly short time.

Of course, I am not calling for replacing science idolatry with high culture idolatry, but rather to see what both, and in our context particularly the former, for what they are, which is idolatry. Again, go back to the common conceit “science proves the Bible right.” Pardon me, but why should it? For science is every bit the product of fallen man’s depraved nature and all the lusts thereof as is Hollywood. That is a good comparison, because evolution, stem cell research/cloning, weapons of mass destruction, and Stephen Hawking’s insistence that the universe created itself ex nihilo are evidence of the downward spiral of science in our culture just as Hollywood is a reflection of what happened to literature, music and theater. So, there should be no more need to reconcile science with the Bible than an Oscar-winning movie or a Grammy-winning record. (Then again, you have no shortage of preachers seeking Christian inspiration from Hollywood!)

The most that it can be said of science is that it is a product of common grace; that God has providentially used it to show His love for us by giving us things to make our lives better (i.e. medical breakthroughs) and also to fulfill His will (i.e. facilitate the spread of the gospel using everything from roads in the Roman Empire to the Internet today). But just as Satan has perverted other gifts of God through common grace for his own wicked purposes (see culture, religion and government being corrupted almost from the beginning in the Bible) there is no reason for science to be any different. Science is not holy. Science is not under any special protection from God, nor is it afforded any special privileges by God, nor does it have a divine or blessed use by God. The only things that have that special status – the things which Christians should respect and adhere to and center our lives and thoughts around unconditionally – are the supernatural things born of or given by God’s Spirit (John 4:23-24) which include God’s church and God’s word. So then, how amazing that the church is willing to just meekly accept the all out assault on the Bible because of “the science of textual criticism“?

That is why we have to abandon the notion of “all legitimate science confirms the Bible.” It takes the idea that scientists have come together to make this predetermined pact to rebel against the Bible because of a wish to reject God and His authority over their lives. While this is no doubt true in some cases, and while such things as ideological agendas and other biases do indeed exist, the idea that these people are propagating falsehoods and rejecting facts on purpose is untenable. Indeed, such things are unnecessary in the first place. Consider, for example, the text 2 Thessalonians 2:11. I am using it a bit of context, granted, but still “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” Combine that with Romans 1:21-22 (which I am employing in slightly better context) which reads “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”

As science is the product of fallen mankind’s imaginations, those texts reveal that they do not have to deny the truth in favor of lies on purpose, after the manner of some conspiracy or overt rebellion against Christianity for instance, but rather that they are going to take lies to be the truth. We have no problem applying this to the politicians, activists, educators, economists etc. (especially if they are liberal), so why claim that the scientists are any different? The scientific method is not scripture. Instead, it is totally reliant on the ability of man to perceive the natural world and interpret its results. The scientific method provides absolutely no insight on the supernatural – save to reveal basic things concerning God’s existence and nature, see Romans 1:20 – which is God’s realm and from which God called the natural world into existence in the first place! Also, all of creation isn’t even “natural” per se … what of angelic spirits, and the spirits of men? So, the scientific method cannot even comprehend the supernatural portion of creation, let alone I AM THAT I AM, the uncreated, self-existing Creator! And even with regards to the natural world, the scientific method has real constraints. (For a somewhat whimsical example, see if you can reliably measure how much rain fell in a town in France 1500 years ago. You can’t … there’s this little problem called TIME.)

But the main limitation is man himself. The fact is that even if the scientific method were capable of perfectly measuring the natural and the supernatural, it still wouldn’t be enough! Why? Because man would have to be able to perfectly interpret the results! Not only does man lack the perfect knowledge – omniscience – required to do so, but the limited knowledge that man does have is compromised by the fall of humanity into sin. Now these things are either clearly revealed in the Bible, or can easily be deduced from them. Yet, why do we still go to great lengths to justify science, to try to evaluate the Bible through the prism of science, and to be respected by the world as “scientific”? (While I do intend to visit the “Creation Museum” at some point, one must consider the underlying rationale for pursuing such a venture in the first place!)

The only answer is idolatry. We make the work of man’s hands into idols, and we do this because of our desire to make man into an idol. We put so much faith in science because deep down, we wish to believe that man has more knowledge, more power, more control than he actually does. That – plus the fact that it makes us rich and powerful and causes us to wonder after such things as great telescopes and micro robots – taps into our desire to worship ourselves. Indeed, the increasingly vain quest to validate the imaginations of scientists using the Bible rather than casting them down like 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to (oh had Paul warned of being led astray by philosophers AND scientists in Colossians 2:8, though I should point out that science is very much the traditions of men!) shows our deep-rooted desire to have a religion that allows us to worship ourselves. Interpreting the Bible in light of science allows us to worship God and ourselves at the same time, and it gives the veneer of respectability to our human idolatry! Indeed, it appears to sanctify it, to make it holy and acceptable!

But instead, the opposite is true, for the first commandment, Thou shalt have no other gods besides me”, is still very much in effect, including when the “other gods” is man. The search to try God, to test God, to worship God inasmuch as His revelation will be subject to science is merely humanism. So, though the homosexuality issue provoked my thoughts on the issue, the truth is that the real issue is in fact the exaltation of humanity through idolatry. It is the pride of life, the same which Satan tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden when he told her that the fruit would make her “as god.” Science gives us a way to be “like God” in our own minds, so just like Eve, we eat of the forbidden fruit, and share it with others! From this evil we Christians must turn away.

Science has its many uses, but one thing that it cannot be used for is to deal with human sin. Because God is holy and righteous, human sin must indeed be dealt with by God, the only one capable of acting as a judge in this matter (for unlike God, all humans are sinners and therefore are incapable of justly judging each other). At the appointed time, God will deal with sin by either forgiving it or punishing it. The punishment for sin is everlasting torment in a lake of fire, and this will happen to all whose sins are not forgiven. The only way to avoid this punishment is for one’s sins to be forgiven, and this occurs only for those who have faith in Jesus Christ. So please, stop putting faith in science or any other false idols, gods or religions today, and instead put your faith in Jesus Christ, the One who became fully man while remaining fully God as He had been for eternity, lived a perfect sinless life, died on the cross to pay for sins of others though He himself never sinned, and rose again from the dead. 1 Peter 3:15 Refers To Testimonies Not Apologetics!

Posted by Job on April 1, 2011

There are three Bible texts that are commonly, widely and purposefully misapplied to suit doctrinal and various other agendas.

Revelation 3:20, which reads “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” is often applied to evangelism because it is convenient to contemporary Arminian/Wesleyan/free will salvation doctrines and practices. The truth is that this text is meant to be applied to a Christian that has backslidden or fallen into severe sin or error restoring a proper relationship or communion with Jesus Christ, and not the Lord and Creator of the universe begging and pleading an unregenerate sinner to accept Him. Even one who adheres to the free will soteriological system must acknowledge that Jesus Christ’s work was accomplished on the cross, and thus it is the Holy Spirit who draws, convicts and saves the sinner.

2 Corinthians 6:14, which reads “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?“, does not apply to marriage, but instead to Christian fellowship. The idea that this verse applies to marriage sets it at odds 1 Corinthians 7:10-16, which states that by being married to an unbeliever, the unbeliever and the children are sanctified (if only in an external sense after the “3a” definition of Strong’s concordance of hagiazō) and that God may use a believing spouse to save an unbelieving one. But how convenient is it to modern Christianity that we instead A) use the unbelief of a spouse as an excuse to obtain an un-Biblical divorce and B) that we choose to maintain fellowship with heretics, apostates etc. first in a local church setting by refusing to remove them from our church rolls, and then on a larger scale by allowing false teachers and churches to remain in our denominations and conventions, and on a larger scale still to various ecumenical and interfaith efforts (i.e. the Manhattan Declaration and many other efforts with Roman Catholics, Jews and increasingly Mormons). The popular meaning of this text is preferred precisely because the true meaning makes this saying “too hard” for so many in contemporary Christianity.

The third text is 1 Peter 3:15, which reads “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear“, which is often used to support the field of Christian apologetics. Now my purpose is not to attack the legitimacy of apologetics itself, although I will say that beyond such things as debunking myths and lies about  the Bible and its doctrines – i.e. attacks on the Jonah and the whale story based on pseudoscience as well as misconceptions held by other religions such as the Muslim belief that Christians worship three gods – I am increasingly skeptical of the utility and the motivations of many devoted to this field. Allow me to propose that were the main modern aim of apologetics, which is increasingly merely to show that a belief in some god (often a false one of deism or pluralism!) is rational and that Christians should be allowed to retain our privileged and influential place in western society based on it, be restricted to the presupposationalist method of Cornelius Van Til, which actually has the gall to take Psalm 14:1 and Psalm 53:1 seriously when they say “the fool has said in his heart ‘There is no Elohim!‘” then the number of “apologists” would decrease dramatically, for it would require bearing witness of the truth to the very powerful and privileged unbelievers that they are petitioning for tolerance and inclusion. Say what you want about the Creation Museum types, they know that the world – including a number of evangelicals who professed to be embarrassed by their spectacle – mocks and despises them, and they don’t care.

Still, the main issue is that if apologetics indeed is a legitimate Christian endeavor, its legitimacy should be established by using texts other than 1 Peter 3:15! Now the defender of apologetics would rejoin me by pointing out that the context in which 1 Peter 3:15 appears is dealing with Christian persecution, and that it was part of the attempts to lessen persecution at the hands of the Roman Empire that the church developed apologetics in the second century. While that is true, this field in its original form merely meant publicly answering lies that were being spread about Christian belief and practice, such as a common one of the time that during communion, Christians cooked and ate a newborn baby and then had an orgy. This activity quickly morphed into making Christianity appear more palatable to the ruling elites themselves so that Christians would be granted social and economic mobility in the Roman Empire, and such was a motivation of the infamous heretic Origen, who with his blasphemies earned much praise for his supposed intellectual prowess from the philosophers and intellectuals of his day.

Instead, to find the actual intent of this text, let us view the context.

And who [is] he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy [are ye]: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and [be] ready always to [give] an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. For [it is] better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

So this context has little to support using rationalist philosophic devices of the sort that the Holy Spirit speaking through Paul denounced in Colossians 2:8 designed to make belief in God every bit as rational – and therefore just acceptable in mainstream society and elite institutions – as is atheism, feminism, Marxism, humanism but instead being able to stand in the day of extreme persecution even unto death by adhering to and giving your testimony. So, 1 Peter 3:15 is less C.S. Lewis (who incidentally was a religious pluralist just as is Rob Bell, and it is amazing and appalling by the great many who love and cherish the former while hypocritically excoriating the latter) and more Stephen of Acts!

When faced with persecution – whether facing certain death/torture/imprisonment or merely the mocking comments of acquaintances and coworkers – Christians must put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). (Yes, I remain a supporter of the Bibleman children’s video series even if my interpretation and application of that text has narrowed somewhat.) This is not “if you see a watch lying on a beach, you will not conclude that the watch made itself, but that that this watch had a creator!” type dissembling. Instead, the Christian is to give his testimony in such cases. This testimony consists of two parts.

The first part is the evangelion, the kerygma, the gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified for our sins and raised from the dead for the purposes of granting eternal life to those who believe. Christians must know the gospel. Christians must understand the gospel. Christians must be willing and able to explain the full, true gospel to anyone under any circumstances, whether it is your friends and neighbors mocking and distorting your Christian beliefs and lifestyle during a social outing at the beach, a Harvard University dean grilling you about your commitment to multiculturalism and tolerance during your interview for a tenure-track faculty position, or a Muslim jihadist holding a scimitar to your neck threatening to rape you, pour gasoline over your body and set you afire, and then – to make absolutely sure that you are dead – chop your head off unless you convert to Islam.

The second part is what the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ has done in your life. How has becoming a Christian changed your life? In what ways has it transformed your character? What mighty works have you witnessed? What mighty works have you performed in Christ’s Name? What is the evidence of the power, the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit, working in your life, and who other than you can bear witness of this evidence?

Make no mistake, it is by the power of our testimony in Jesus Christ that is personal, rooted in and given authority to by the Bible, and therefore shared by the universal church, that we overcome. We do not overcome by in philosophical exercises and games that due to their often flawed and limited nature (as they are the work of human speculation and not of God) are in many instances (more than the apologists will admit!) are not consistent, trustworthy or sound and also give a flawed, distorted or even inaccurate picture of the Person that is the Object and Author of the testimony.

2 Timothy 1:8 affirms this in telling us not to be ashamed of our testimony of Jesus Christ, and calls the power of the gospel the power of God. The apostle John stated that his reason for writing his gospel was to record and spread his testimony and to bear witness of its truth in verse 21:24. Further, Acts 14 describes how Paul and Barnabas withstood and overcame the persecutions and counter-missionary efforts of the Jews by “speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.”

In the opening of the first epistle to the Corinthian church, the Holy Spirit speaking through Paul states that if the testimony of Jesus Christ is confirmed in the Christian, then this same Jesus Christ will on the last day confirm the Christian, and the Christian will be counted as blameless in judgment! A chief use of our testimony is in evangelism to win converts, as Paul told the Thessalonian church in verse 1:10 of his second epistle. It is only after the completion of testimony of the two witnesses of the apocalypse that the beast will be suffered to martyr them (Revelation 11:7). Revelation 12:11 says that in addition to the Blood of Jesus Christ, it is our testimony of Jesus Christ that overcomes Satan! Revelation also reveals that there is a tabernacle of testimony in heaven, and calls the testimony of Jesus Christ prophecy!

But principally, and this recalls Ephesians 6:11, it is made clear in Revelation 12:17 that Satan’s war is with those who keep the commandments of Jesus Christ and have His testimony! Having a testimony in the absence of obedience is not sufficient, for Jesus Christ told us in His parables that such makes you a goat that will be cast into outer darkness and not a sheep. Meanwhile, keeping the commandments of Jesus Christ in the absence of a testimony is not sufficient, for we are justified by faith in the One whom we are supposed to testify of, and not by works.

So, our testimony is a primary, chief spiritual warfare weapon! The famous “armor of God” passage of Ephesians 6 calls the word of God “the sword of the spirit” in verse 17, and many exegetes have noted that it is the only offensive weapon. Well, a legitimate testimony generated by the Holy Spirit and given utterance by one in whom the Holy Spirit indwells bears witness to the Word of God, which is Jesus Christ! In John 16, where Jesus Christ speaks of the persecution that His apostles and His church will endure for His sake, Jesus Christ states that the Holy Spirit will not speak of Himself, but instead will speak of what He hears? Well, Who does the Holy Spirit hear? Jesus Christ! Your testimony may not be the sword itself, but how can it be any less than either the handle that the cutting, two-edged blade is attached to, or the hand of the Christian that takes hold of the sword and wields it!

If this is the case, then why on earth would one adhere to an interpretation of 1 Peter 3:15 that causes us to take our only offensive weapon and hide it in its sheath? There can be only two reasons. The first is the lack of a testimony or an ability to articulate it. Such a person does not need to verse himself in suspect philosophical arguments. Instead, this is a person who is either unregenerate or immature in the faith and therefore urgently needs to attend to the former or the latter. That person doesn’t need to give some apology of Christianity but needs to hear and believe a testimony of a Christian so that he too can begin giving his own testimony!

The second reason why so many Christians are willing to abandon their offensive weapon is simply a desire to avoid giving offense, especially to the people whose approval we crave. Being lovers of this present world like Demas, we forsake the testimony of Jesus Christ with all its power, and instead resort to the arguments of men that have a form of godliness but denies the power thereof! We are supposed to turn away from these tactics and the thinking that motivates it!

These people know fully well that the gospel, the testimony, the message of the cross is foolishness to the world, an offense to those who do not believe. So, instead of using 1 Peter 3:15 to strengthen themselves in order to stand against the world and suffer abuse, shame and persecution because of this testimony, that text is twisted to avoid giving just such a testimony! 1 Peter 3:15 is misappropriated to justify giving the world something that it can accept because it is of the world – that being a human argument – in the place of bearing witness to something that the world hates and rejects because it is of the Holy Spirit that convicts the world of evil, which is a legitimate testimony! You can either give an apology and be embraced by pagans as a genius and hero like Origen, or give a testimony and be slain with rocks as was Stephen and also Antipas. If you love this present world, then you are an adulterer or adulteress who is an enemy with God (James 4:4) so as a result of your inner condition, perhaps an intellectual exercise will suit your aims of being loved by this present world. But if you love the world to come, then you will pick up the sword of the spirit and give your testimony!

Also: come let us reason together, Isaiah 1:18, does not refer to apologetics either. Instead, that text – and its context – is an exhortation to the children of Israel to return to their obedience of the Sinai covenant and its blessings, or else they will reap the covenant curses. It is a prophetic call to repentance by reminding Israel to “think about what you are doing and its consequences … you know of God and His ways and how He is both holy and merciful, so if you continue in your sins He will punish you because He is holy, and if you repent and fear YHWH then He will be merciful, withhold punishment and instead bless you!” Of course, while Israel is to use, rather than deny and suppress, their rational logic, the object of this logic is an appeal to what they already know about God based on God’s self-revelation to His covenant people. So rather than attempting to prove that God exists, this text is based on a presupposition of God’s existence, and is establishing the folly of knowingly disobeying the commands of the YHWH whose existence and attributes they already fully know of and do not deny!

Again, this is not a missive against apologetics itself. Instead, we should stop using texts that apply to testimonies and obedience and knowingly, willingly abusing those texts by using them in a way that they ought not to be. Yes, some examples of doing that do seem to appear in the Bible (most notably Jesus Christ’s creative appropriation of Psalm 82:6 in John 10:34) but lacking the inspiration and license of the Holy Spirit to write authoritative scripture, we should restrain ourselves from such things.

And it is particularly harmful if the motivation for this misapplication of Bible texts is a desire to avoid incurring the offense of the world with our testimonies by substituting something more acceptable to the world in its place. Jesus Christ said that if we are ashamed to testify concerning Him in this life, He will not speak on our behalf on judgment day (Mark 8:38)! If you have a testimony within you, the Bible is clear: you must share it, and share it boldly, meekly, fearlessly, humbly and often. But if you do not have a testimony within you, then that is a much greater problem. Address that deficiency immediately by:

A Question For Jesus Only Oneness Pentecostal Trinity Deniers

Posted by Job on May 15, 2009

Oneness Pentecostals, as well as Christians who support and fellowship with oneness Pentecostals, here is a question of you.

The Bible declares God the Father, called the Ancient of Days (see Daniel 7, especially verses 9, 13, and 22) to be King in various places. The Bible declares God the Son, called the Angel of the Lord in His preincarnate form (see Joshua 5:14-15, also Exodus 3:4-6 cross referenced with Exodus 3:2Acts 7:30Acts 7:35 ) and the Word of God (John 1:1-18, Proverb 8 especially verse 30) and Jesus Christ to be King.

However, the Holy Spirit, called the Spirit of God the Father (Matthew 10:20Isaiah 61:1, Luke 4:18) and the Spirit of God the Son (Galatians 4:6, Romans 8:9, Isaiah 61:1Luke 4:18) is never declared to be King by scripture at any time. Also, where both God the Father and God the Son are both spoken of as being glorified and exalted, to my knowledge God the Holy Spirit is never spoken of by scripture as being glorified or exalted at any time.

How is this possible? I welcome your replies. Thank you.

Seeing God in everything…even Hurricane Ike

Posted by Job on October 2, 2008

From Fancied Freedom!

Seeing God in everything…even Hurricane Ike

However, at one point during the aftermath of the Category 2 storm, I wondered if sometimes a hurricane or other natural disasters are used, maybe even needed, to get people to put priorities into perspective. Tons of people lost their homes and possessions. Crawling and digging through rubble, residents in Galveston and other beach-front properties tried to put some semblance of their lives back together. Even if they could only salvage a fork and a spoon, at least it was theirs. If they have nothing, then what do they have?

People who were without power for days and weeks found new ways to cope with significant amounts of time, much of which was spent during hot and humid days. But God was gracious in providing some cooler weather. But what thoughts raced through people’s minds as they were kept back from watching TV or using the Internet due to no electricity? What did they ponder upon? What changed?

There is no immediate way to determine how the hurricane has impacted people’s lives, other than those who are completely homeless. Many people seemed to remain hopeful in spite of the loss but deep down what questions were being held inside? How will I get through this? What will happen next? What if I don’t get my next paycheck? Where will I live? Where is God? Personally, I never heard Paul’s words in Philippians 3:7 more clearly:

But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ.

Only a few days after Hurricane Ike, I read my devotional for September 17 and was amazed at how God could be so timely. Only in His perfect and infinite wisdom could He have known that the words written so long ago in Streams in the Desert for that day would be needed for this day. Focusing on seeing God in every circumstance and situation in life, the message says:

To see HIM, and to be sure that His wisdom cannot err, His power cannot fail, His love can never change; to know that even His direst dealings with us are for our deepest spiritual gain, is to be able to say, in the midst of bereavement, sorrow, pain and loss, “The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

And what truly spoke to my heart and made these words of seeing God in all of life’s trials and tribulations even more applicable was a poem written by A.E. Finn that followed the devotional and I’ll post it here (the last one is MY favorite):

“Give me a new idea,” I said,
While musing on a sleepless bed;
“A new idea that’ll bring to earth
A balm for souls of priceless worth;
That’ll give men thoughts of things above,
And teach them how to serve and love,
That’ll banish every selfish thought,
And rid men of the sins they’ve fought.”

The new thought, came, just how, I’ll tell:
‘Twas when on bended knee I fell,
And sought from HIM who knows full well
The way our sorrow to expel.
SEE GOD IN ALL THINGS, great and small,
And give HIM praise whatever befall,
In life or death, in pain or woe,
See God, and overcome thy foe.

I saw HIM in the morning light;
He made the day shine clear and bright;
I saw HIM in the noontide hour,
And gained from Him refreshing shower.
At eventide, when worn and sad,
HE gave me help, and made me glad.
At midnight, when on tossing bed
My weary soul to sleep HE led.

I saw HIM when great losses came,
And found HE loved me just the same.
When heavy loads I had to bear,
I found HE lightened every care.
By sickness, sorrow, sore distress,
HE calmed my mind and gave me rest.
HE’s filled my heart with gladsome praise
Since I gave HIM the upward gaze.

‘Twas new to me, yet old to some,
This thought that to me has become
A revelation of the way
We all should live throughout the day;
For as each day unfolds its light,
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight.
Life will, indeed, a blessing bring,
If we SEE GOD IN EVERYTHING.

Yes, we can see God in everything because ALL THINGS can be used for His glory, for our refinement and for others’ encouragement. Yes, even a hurricane. For life will indeed a BLESSING bring if we see God in EVERYTHING!

Liberal Jesus Seminar Scholars: Telescopes Prove That God Does Not Exist

Posted by Job on September 11, 2008

This is how foolish a heart determined to reject God is. Excerpting the From the introduction to The Five Gospels:

The contemporary religious controversy, epitomized in the Scopes trial and the continuing clamor for creationism as a viable alternative to the theory of evolution, turns on whether the worldview reflected in the Bible can be carried forward into this scientific age and retained as an article of faith. Jesus figures prominently in this debate. The Christ of creed and dogma, who had been firmly in place in the Middle Ages, can no longer command the assent of those who have seen the heavens through Galileo’s telescope. The old deities and demons were swept from the skies by that remarkable glass. Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo have dismantled the mythological abodes of the gods and Satan, and bequeathed us secular heavens.

So … since demons, which are SPIRITS, cannot be seen with a telescope, that proves that they don’t exist? By the way, the Bible clearly makes numerous references to evil spirits being present on earth. When they are, does the Bible make references to being able to discern these evil spirits with the human eye? You had Satan appearing as a serpent in the Garden of Eden, some visions of evil spirits that John recorded in Revelation that probably were never meant to describe natural realities but spiritual ones, and that is it. This is actually more foolish than liberal Episcopal priest and scholar John Shelby Spong claiming that scientific and astronomical discoveries proved that the Bible narratives were false because Jesus Christ could have never ascended to heaven, because once Christ went past the clouds, He would not have been in heaven but in outer space.

It really does make me wonder whether liberal scholars interact with actual Christians when they do their “studies” and “debates”, or if they only sit amongst themselves and interact with Christian caricatures and beliefs that they assign to Christians. One would only need to read Augustine’s “City of God”, which preceded Galileo by 1100 years, to see that Christians believe in a spiritual plane and a natural one. Here, the Jesus Seminar pretends that Christians are no different from pagans and animists whose “gods” are mere personifications of natural forces and objects and actually “live” in them. The tree spirits of Celtic and other pre – Christian European lore, for instance, actually lived in trees, and the same with gnomes, elves, fairies, leprechauns, etc. Similarly, sea gods actually live in the sea (Neptune of Greek mythology) or are the sea itself (Yam of Canaanite mythology). In Greek mythology, their gods lived atop Mount Olympus. And of course there is Mormonism, whose god was a man on another planet. In those systems, the gods do not transcend nature, but are part of it. There is no true concept of natural plane versus spiritual plane, and there certainly is no concept where a spiritual God created the universe, everything in the natural plane that exists including not only space but also time, from a spiritual reality whose state of being is in no way a function of the natural reality. Meaning that were the natural reality to be wiped out tomorrow, the spiritual reality would still exist … moreover the spiritual reality of God would have still and always existed even had God never created the universe in the first place. This cosmic and metaphysical view only exists in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, which is why those are the only ones that believe in the resurrection of the dead. In the naturalist religious systems of paganism and animism that the liberal atheists are deceiving people into thinking that Christianity is just another (and by the way, evolution is nothing more than naturalist religion whose doctrines and theologies are described scientifically, and for that matter so is modern environmentalism) not only does resurrection of the dead break all the rules and is therefore inconceivable, but it serves no purpose. It cannot play a part of a redeemed or renewed creation, because there exists nothing outside of or apart from time and space to redeem or renew. Even the religions that include an underworld in their belief system, the underworld was part of the natural order. The ones that believe in reincarnation or advancing in planes or levels: more of the same. Their entire cosmic or metaphysical worldview is a closed system or locked box where nothing, whether matter or energy or anything else, can be created or destroyed because the natural order is all their is because their god or gods are INSIDE of it. And incidentally, this naturalistic – materalistic worldview includes MORMONISM as well. They teach that Jesus Christ is the product of sexual relations between God and Mary because in the system that the Jesus Seminar liberals claim as representing Christian thought, there is no other way to produce offspring. Please note that Greek and other pagan mythology also depicts gods as procreating sexually … with no spiritual reality that transcends the natural one, there is no other way.

Really, all that is needed to show how these people are not even debating Christianity but rather a caricature, a straw man, to suit their propaganda purposes is Genesis 1:1. It has a self – existing eternal God creating the entire natural order: time, space, matter, energy, etc. For those of you who believe in the big bang theory, there you go. (The originator of the big bang theory actually withdrew it because he feared that it would be used to justify Genesis 1:1 and everything else in the Bible that followed, including his own need for a personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.) You can go a little bit further and see where the Bible speaks of God creating the heavens. One of the “heavens”, according to ancient Jewish cosmic thought that became early Christian thought, is in fact the outer space that Galileo, Kepler, Copernicus, saw, and the creation narrative speaks of God populating those heavens with stars and other objects.

So armed with even this limited set of knowledge that Christians present to our 2 year old children, Christians should not worry themselves over straw man caricatures of our faith. The challenge is not on Christians to explain why we cannot see the dwellling place of God with our telescopes. The challenge is on these false scholars to explain why they claim that Christians believe such a thing. 1 Kings 8:27 “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built!” Whether this highest heaven is outer space or some level that is above even that, the Bible itself tells us not to look for God there, for God is not a part of creation and does not live in it. God is and represents a spiritual reality that exists independently and separately from creation. This same creation, rebellious as it may be – and these Jesus Seminar “scholars” certainly do represent this rebelliousness – does not and cannot exist independently and separately from the God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit that not only created it, but continuously sustains and governs its existence.

As you can see, the lies of the atheists do not even meet their own standards of scholarship. God is real, and He revealed Himself through us by the orderly workings of creation (without which there would be no fields of science and mathematics, let alone the systems of reason and logic that we use in them), His inspired word to us the Bible, and ultimately His Son Jesus Christ, God in the flesh. Jesus Christ is your only path to salvation and to avoid the eternal punishment of those who reject God. In order to follow that path, click on the link below to read and listen to

Brain Scans Showing Brains of Homosexuals Resembling People Of Opposite Sex Is The Result of SIN!

Posted by Job on June 17, 2008

Scans see ‘gay brain differences’

People are going to use articles like these to assert that what the Bible teaches regarding homosexuality is wrong because homosexuality is an immutable biological characteristic like sex or race. (If anything, they view homosexuality as even more fundamental then sex – falsely commonly called gender, which is a political term created by homosexual feminists to suit their purposes – because sex change operations, now being given even to small children, are done to accommodate homosexual preferences.)

However, findings like these do not oppose the Bible, but rather confirm it. They should not weaken faith, but rather strengthen it. Why? Let me give you an example. I am not among those that claims “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy as a Christian allegory, and J.R.R. Tollkein’s vehement denials that it should be considered as such should be respected rather than claimed by Christians desperate to have a piece of popular culture all their own. Still, those familiar with the movies or books remember consider the effect that the ring, which represented evil and sin, had on Gollum. Consider not merely the effect that the ring had on Gollum’s MIND, giving him a split personality which Sam Gamgee named one “slinker” (after Gollum’s sneaky subversive subtle evil nature like Satan as the serpent in the Garden of Eden) and the other “stinker” (after Gollum’s more direct, malevolent, and aggressive evil nature like Satan as the dragon). Instead, also consider the effect that sin had on Gollum’s BODY. Where Gollum was once a hobbit like Frodo and Sam, sin transformed him PHYSICALLY into a twisted monstrosity that Aragorn referred to as “the footpad” after his froglike feet. Further, there were the orcs … originally elves but so PHYSICALLY twisted by Sauron’s witchcraft that not only did their appearance change, but they could no longer even bear sunlight! Again, “Lord of the Rings” is NOT CHRISTIAN, as Tollkein himself stated that it was his attempt to create a system of pagan mythology for Great Britain to go along with the Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology that he loved studying. Still, Gollum, the orcs, the trolls, etc. are examples of the physical effects of sin as told by a Mary – worshiping Roman Catholic that was very familiar with the subject, and as such makes for a very good secular nonbiblical contemporary example that can be used to illustrate a Biblical point.

Here is the sad part: orthodox, evangelical, fundamentalist, conservative, Biblical, etc. Christians have no problem acknowledging that Adam’s fall and the resulting effects of sin and death entering creation had a tangible effect: that the spiritual consequences of Adam’s sin had a real and discernible effect or manifestation on the natural world. So what is the problem? Contemporary Christians compartmentalize. They only believe that the “spiritual stuff like that” happened BACK THEN. Modern Christians, even Bible – believing ones, have the modern secular humanist mindset that in these times, the spiritual God of heaven has basically gone deist and left the workings of the world to science, economics, politics, religion, culture, and the alleged ability of man to use those things to take dominion of and rule the earth. Yes, even according to theologically conservative Christians, when the apostolic age ended not only God but the entire spirit realm went on holiday, and God and the ability of the spirit realm to have a regular tangible discernible effect on the natural realm in a way that billions of people can witness and acknowledge will not happen again until the rapture, the great tribulation, or the return of Jesus Christ (depending upon your eschatological position … full disclosure mine is historic premillennialism, which was the position of the early church before eschatological viewpoints were corrupted by Greek pagan allegorizing and the political needs of the Roman Empire).

But no. Spiritual things and their ability to influence the natural world did not go away when Jesus Christ ascended back into heaven. The tangible physical effects of God’s grace are still present in all creation! God still causes the sun to shine and the rain to come for the good and the evil Matthew 5:45. What is it, modernist evangelical Christian? You do still believe that it is God that runs and sustains creation, right? Or have you been seduced by some corrupted form of natural theology that makes you more acceptable to the elite scholars and theologians? Well let me warn you … it was precisely that sort of corrupted natural theology, a form that made Christians marginally palatable to the atheist humanist enlightenment European academic community, that caused the Lutheran Church of Germany to vigorously endorse Adolph Hitler! The Lutheran Church of Germany actually issued a proclamation stating that God had placed Adolph Hitler in power to lead Germany back to greatness! So people, look at the horror of World War II and the blood of millions of innocent Jews and see the result of theologies that deny and run away from true spirituality, making God so transcendent, so detached and removed from His creation as to be functionally deist. And yes, I should point out that Hitler did murder homosexuals in his concentration camps too! People, be not deceived, Hitler was not evil because he hated homosexuals. Hitler hated homosexuals because he was evil!

So, a person that honestly believes in the spirit realm, sin and righteousness, good and evil has no problem accepting the fact that sin can and does cause physical changes in people. I am not merely talking about how alcohol abuse can destroy your liver, or gluttony can give you cardiopulmonary disease, though that certainly is true. I am stating that the spiritual effects of sin can and does have a tangible effect on a person’s biology, and moreover that said tangible effects can be passed onto one’s offspring. Again, go back to Adam! Why did eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil cause his death? Was it arsenic, strychnine, ricin, or some other poison? Did it contain anthrax, ebola, or some other pathogen? If so, it certainly took a mighty long time to work, didn’t it, because Adam lived to be 900, and spent a great deal of that time having children! And also, that would not explain how the ricin or the anthrax got into Adam’s children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and so on! No, there was nothing intrinsically harmful about the fruit itself. The Bible even says that it was good for food! The only issue was that God told them not to eat it. The death that entered Adam and the entire creation was the physical effects of sin. You know what? Medical science explains it. Our DNA, RNA, chromosomes, etc. are imperfect. We die because over time our body ceases to create enough healthy new cells to replace the cells that die, and we are also prone to conditions where malformed cells overtake and destroy healthy ones (i.e. cancer). That genetic defect has been passed on to every man born of Adam! And if the spiritual consequences of Adam’s sin had a physical manifestation back then, the spiritual consequences of our sins have physical consequences right now!

That is why Christians need not unconditionally reject the notion that some conditions, including homosexuality, may in fact be genetic. We should not be so quick to adopt the recent – and humanistic and ultimately Marxist – notion that everything is the result of free will and surroundings. If the effects of Adam’s sin are propagated throughout all humankind, why cannot the biological changes that result from sin be passed down? Doesn’t the Bible itself say so, that the effects of sin go from generation to generation? Even better: does not the Bible say that we are born in sin? Do not words MEAN things? Well, so – called Bible believing Christians know full well what being born in sin means. We know it, BUT WE DON’T WANT TO BELIEVE IT! That is why we are so willing to cast off what the Bible says in favor of the scientific, philosophical, and political imaginations that are products of minds that have specifically rejected Jesus Christ! I want someone to show me where it says in the Bible that anyone was a victim of their environment, surroundings, and circumstance. The one instance that I can think of, the infant son of wicked king Jeroboam that the sovereign God who predestines and elects knew was righteous, well God took that child out of that bad situation, didn’t He (1 Kings 14:12-14)?

That is why we as Christians have to get serious. Sin in the time of Adam, the flood, the patriarchs, Israel, etc. is the same as sin today. It has the same effect on the spirit, the same effect on the mind, and the same effect on THE BODY. We Christians have to eliminate from ourselves these worldly considerations that make it so easy to reject our faith and start to believe THE BIBLE. So, instead of wallowing in the filthy pit of the church of judge not touch mine anointed excuses, we have to consider the effects that sin has on our physical bodies. And since there is a thing called genetics, we have to consider the effects that our sin will have on the bodies of our CHILDREN and our GRANDCHILDREN and so on. What about the work of Jesus Christ who was wounded for our transgressions, bruised by our iniquities, and by and with His stripes we are healed? That is true for those who REPENT. REPENT does not just mean giving mental verbal intellectual assent to being a sinner and saying that you are sorry. That is “salvation prayer easy believism.” REPENT does not mean being truly legitimately heartbroken. That is deception. The best evidence of this is the Old Testament where after Israel provoked God in the wilderness, God REPENTED of His desire to destroy them. God didn’t say He was sorry. Why? What does a sovereign holy God have to apologize for? Who does He apologize to? Especially when it comes to His desire to destroy wickedness? And no, God did not destroy Israel 1000 times and just feel so horrible, terrible, and afflicted about it that He had to go to the confession box, talk to the priest, and say the rosaries and hail Marys. So what did it mean when God repented concerning destroying Israel? IT MEANS THAT HE DIDN’T DO IT! Repent isn’t the EMOTION of feeling sorry, it is the ACTION of turning aside, changing your path! So, for Jesus Christ to heal the sin effects present in your body by and with His stripes – with His work on the cross – you have to REPENT of your sins which means YOU HAVE TO END YOUR SINFUL LIFESTYLE. Modern theology says that you can keep sinning and be healed so long as you are “Godly sorry” each time you sin. THE BIBLE says that the Holy Spirit writes God’s law on your heart and gives you such an aversion to sin that painfully vexes you. Which one are you going to believe?

But the bottom line is that we should not be surprised when the sinful actions of people cause tangible physical outward signs that are not direct physical consequences of their behavior and otherwise cannot be explained. Honestly, what do you suppose all those references that Paul made to being delivered up and given over to all manners of corruption and wickedness actually means? People, in particular go study Romans 1:18-32, and instead of focusing only on the tidy neat inoffensive little notions acceptable not only to modern theology but also to the little theories of perverts like Sigmund Freud, Alfred Kinsey, and most who followed after them that this only applies to people’s behavior, minds, and character. No, look at those verses and consider that they mean for THE PHYSICAL BODY, and not just for individuals, but for people’s offsprings and entire cultures! Phrases like “corruptible man“, “gave them up to uncleanness“, “to dishonour their own bodies“, “gave them up unto vile affections“, “change the natural use into that which is against nature“, “leaving the natural use“, “men with men working that which is unseemly“, and the clearest example “receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.” Now I am not going to deny that this also does not refer to changes in mindset, morality, and character, but how can one deny that this also does not refer to the spiritual effects of sin changing the physical body to the point where it simply is physically not what it was prior?

If one accepts that sin is inherently unnatural to creation and as a result has effects far broader and greater than the mere direct and immediate consequences of the act – the Biblical view – then one should have no problem with this whatsoever. But if one takes on the modern, humanistic worldview that sin is more or less natural and therefore Christians should resign themselves to it and even tolerate it to a great degree – the “stop all the condemning, stop talking about what we are against and start talking about what we are for” mindset – then being confronted by medical science such as this can only leave you with two options.

1. This is the bogus pseudo – scientific result of liberal agenda – driven politicians masquerading as people with Ph.D’s in biology, medicine, engineering, physics, etc. A conservative Republican family values Christian would have known to use only the “right” equipment and the “right” procedures and interpreted the data the “correct” way in order to get the “right” results that would have “scientifically proven” man’s free will. GOD FORBID THAT MEDICAL SCIENCE WOULD PROVE THE TOTAL DEPRAVITY OF MAN AND HOW BADLY MAN NEEDS THE HOLY SPIRIT TO INTERVENE IN ORDER FOR US TO BE SAVED! WELL GUESS WHAT SOPHISTICATED CHRISTIANS – SCIENCE HAS ALREADY DONE IT WITH BABIES! SO WHY CANNOT SCIENCE DEMONSTRATE THE TOTAL DEPRAVITY OF MAN WITH ADULT PRACTICING HOMOSEXUALS? (I am supposing that theological sophisticates are waiting for scientific results that would tend to confirm Pelagianism or Arminianism?) Of course, I am not saying that agenda – driven sham science does not exist: evolution is bogus for instance. But Christians have NO CASE for dismissing these findings until the science behind it is investigated. That has been the case with evolution: Christians have studied the science, forced even leading evolutionists to acknowledge that it is a sham, and as a result evolutionists have had no recourse other than to make it illegal to even mention the holes in evolution in public schools and universities and research labs have actually stopped hiring and admitting Christians into research programs. But in this instance, Christians need to investigate the science before they say that it contradicts the Bible. As it is, the only reason for claiming that these results violate the Bible in the first place is because modern theology presents a functional deism where the spiritual is replaced by the secular, the acts of God are replaced by the acts of man, and this creates a Christian mindset that is much more accommodating to amillennialism, dominionism, reconstructionism, and SIN.

2. Or you can decide “hey, well this proves that the gay rights activists like Soulforce and the Human Rights Campaign and Act Up are right, so we have to accept that modern science and ethics have proven the Bible to be wrong.”

Both options are, of course, unacceptable to me. Instead, the route that I choose is one that the Bible has makes plain from Genesis 3: the spiritual effects of sin causes changes in the natural world, including but not limited to twisting, deforming, and setting at odds with its natural purpose the bodies of men. Think about it: the corruption of man and beast and the earth itself due to sin caused God to destroy the world with the flood! Similar to Romans 1, take a look at Genesis 6! “The earth also was corrupt before God.” “And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.” “And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” “And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” But here is the clincher: “There were giants in the earth in those days.” Do you realize that there is an emerging consensus in the evangelical scholarly community that the giants of Genesis 6 merely referred to arrogant tribal rulers? Never mind that the exact same Hebrew word in that passage was used in Numbers 13:13, the giants of the sons of Anak. What did Israel say? “Compared to those GIANTS we look like GRASSHOPPERS! We can’t defeat them in battle, so we aren’t going to go in the Promised Land!” I guess “we are grasshoppers compared to them” was just a figure of speech; they were simply speaking of how mighty the tribal kings were. So I guess these Anakite kings were supposed to be mightier than PHAROAH OF EGYPT or something? So if they were grasshoppers before the Anakite kings, what was Israel before pharoah, who ruled the most powerful nation in the world? Amoebas? It sounds like to me that these leading evangelical scholars are doing all that they can to deny that sin really is and what sin really does. Which is precisely why I am certain that since these great respected theologians cannot take position 1) above and retain their esteemed positions in the academy, the day is soon coming that findings like this will make position 2) will be their only recourse. And the question is … when that day comes, will you go also with them? Or will you go with the Bible and those of us that believe in what it actually says and means?

Polonium Halos and Creation

Posted by Job on June 16, 2008

My note: Robert Gentry is a member of the Seventh Day Adventists.
Polonium Halos and Creation « Fisher of Men

Polonium is a radioactive element, and decays quickly. As it decays it leaves behind halos, but these halos disappear very quickly, unless there is a means to capture the evidence of them. It turns out that these halos are captured in granite all around the world.

Evolutionists say the universe created itself, and the earth was a hot molten mass for millions or billions of years until the rock cooled and hardened. The thing about that is that if the rock is molten and fluid, the evidence for the decay of polonium will quickly disappear. If the evolutionists are right, there should be zero evidence of polonium decay in earth’s rock.

Robert Gentry is a creationist who has been working on this topic for decades, and has published this information in prestigious, secular, scientific journals. No one has ever been able to answer how these polonium halos could be there from an evolutionary viewpoint.

Gentry compares the polonium halos to a tablet of Alka Seltzer being dropped into a glass of water. If you leave it undisturbed for a few minutes, the bubbles from the tablet disappear. But, if you drop the tablet in, and instantaneously freeze the water, the bubbles will be encapsulated in the frozen water. This is what happened with the polonium in the granite. The polonium decays, and within 3 minutes or less, the granite is hardened, and the polonium halo is frozen for future generations to see.

Atheists have faith that science will someday be able to explain these difficult issues. I agree that science will someday find an answer; it just won’t have anything to do with the big bang or evolution.

Here’s a couple of websites to look at for more information:
Gentry’s site
Answers in Genesis article on halos in coalified wood.

While you’re at it, take a look at this website.
