Don’t be Deceived by Political Christianity

What does Babylon the Great represent? It is a symbol that stands for all the ungodly religious-political-social-economic systems that humans have created. As John might put it in his letters, Babylon is simply “the world” (1 John 2:15). The world system depicted under this symbol would be that one that does not reflect God’s nature of love, and which in turn enslaves mankind.

Another worthwhile message/warning posted today by Pastor Kato Mivule of Uganda at Yesu Mulungi:

Christian Response to Secular Government

Kato Mivule…Oct 13 2008

It is election time in the USA and Christians are not mandated to vote or not to vote in the Bible, at least by New Testament Teachings. So, the choice to vote and not to vote is left up to the conscience and judgment of a believer.

However, the New Testament is very clear when it comes to what a Christian’s Responses should be when governed by any secular government. We are not to engage in any type of armed rebellion or incitements just because you disagree with the Ruling Authorities…

A lot of Christian Blogs and websites in America are so scared that Barrack Obama will become the next President of the US that they are busy sending out emails and articles that are nothing but HATE, REBELLION, and FEAR MONGERING that somehow Arab Moslems are going to overrun the US Whitehouse and install Communism.

Many Christians, especially in the “Christian Remnant Movement” are caught up in these Hate Mongering Christian Religious Right sites that they are preparing themselves for Rebellion and in some cases joining ‘Christian Vigilante Militia’ groups so as to ‘Retake America Back’ in case Obama wins the Election…

However, I WARN YOU to WATCH OUT and don’t be deceived into joining such foolish blood thirsty hate groups.  Regardless of who wins the November Elections, the Sky will not fall… Regardless of if McCain wins or Obama wins, the Bible is clear as to what our mandate to government should be as Christians.

Personally, I don’t agree with the Policies of GW Bush but he is still the President of the USA and the Bible commands us that we give him due honor…

America’s Religious Right Evangelicals are deceived and their Trust is now in Hate, Rebellion, and the Gun… Don’t follow such men, they are heading to HELL. They hide behind Pro Life, Anti Abortion, Anti Gay, Pro Marriage but are not, they are simply using Christianity as a cover for EVIL… Brethren WATCH OUT and don’t be DECEIVED by POLITICAL CHRISTIANITY!

This is what the New Testament teaches our response should be to Secular Government….

Romans 13:1-8
(1)  Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
(2)  Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
(3)  For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
(4)  For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
(5)  Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
(6)  For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
(7)  Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
(8)  Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

1 Peter 2:13-18
(13)  Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme;
(14)  Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
(15)  For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
(16)  As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.
(17)  Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.
(18)  Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

Titus 3:1-2
(1)  Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
(2)  To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men.

Your article is spot on, I have been so aghast at the hate coming from people who call themselves ‘Christians’ not to mention that these people will resort to the worst kind of lies in the process. I mean I expected this kind of behavior from an atheist or even from someone from another religion but not from the so called christians.

Where is love in all this? Where is ‘do not bear false witness?’I have been so ashamed that those who don’t claim to be Christians are more civil. And to make matters worse, the religious leaders have cheered on this hate mongering. When Christ was here, the Romans subjected the Jews to the worst kind of bondage but He didn’t abandon His heavenly calling to stir hate against the government of the day, but why are people using His name to create and promote hate?

I think it is time everyone read their bibles and tried to copy the divine pattern as presented and stop being infatuated with these ‘star’ pastors and televangelists whose pattern is so grotesque it is must be from the enemy.

Yeah ok…I think the article is going a little bit too far to say the least…

Because someone is right and conservative, hardly makes him a candidate for hell…

Talk about broad brushing…oy….I know what the author is trying to say but he is taking it wayyyyyyy to far!

I would like this person to actually point out which Christian Leaders are using groups that are anti abortion, anti gay marriage etc etc….who exactly is he referring too?

Any person I have ever met that is a Born Again Christian and on the right is not anti government or willing to join some militia….certainly we are against godless ideologies such as the gay agenda or abortion or marxism etc etc….

I have never met a Conservative Christian that puts his political leaders above Christ…..on the left, they however look to govt for all their solutions……again, this article is simply more moral equivelance!

This article is awful. We are Christians who have to make a choice on the people who make the law around us. If we have a choice in the matter it only makes sense to support people who believe the way you do.
There is a lot of hate against Obama but don’t forget the outstanding hatred against Palin and the beliefs she shares. When I vent in this vein I am distracted by racism and sexism and ignoring my deeply held pro-life beliefs.
As an undeterred Christian who cherishes life I will try to persuade people that an unborn child is a gift from God. The major candidates are similar in almost every other way.

    This is an amazing quote:

America’s Religious Right Evangelicals are deceived and their Trust is now in Hate, Rebellion, and the Gun… Don’t follow such men, they are heading to HELL. I wouldn’t quote Jesus if I didn’t believe in him. I don’t see why anyone who genuine believes in Pro-life & holy matrimony wouldn’t be truly disturbed by this quote. We are just saying what we believe to be truths. A Christian who could vote for someone who goes against what they truly deeply believe point after point has to be double minded to some extent. Fire and brimstone I don’t think is warranted. Iron sharpens Iron.
This is the mainline Christians assault against the evangelicals.
I hope we can one day come to an agreement disagree in love.

have you ever thought about starting a website? I truly appreciate reading your comments and responses.

I was looking at a sampling of Obama as Anti Christ websites. None got very involved with the Bible. A few claimed that the book of Revelation said the Anti Christ would be a muslim! (If I’ve missed something please point it out.) Also they referenced Nostradmus. Most were connected to people I have little respect for any how.

The one that made me think most was the one from the author’s of the Left Behind series. In fact they claimed Obama was not the Anti Christ. I never read their series but I understand that when the ‘rapture’ occurred the pope was caught up in heaven! I’m glad they put those books in the science fiction section of the library where they belong.

So I Obama the Anti Christ? I suppose there is a possibility. He has charisma, supports peace, would attain a powerful position if he is elected and survives until he can take office.

But somehow I think not. The book of Revelation says the how world will be amazed at the beast. Revelation 13:4 “Who is like the beast and who can fight against it?” Yes, if Obama was the head of the USA he could fit that statement perhaps but so could McCain or anyone else. No what I read in is something exceptional occurring. Perhaps with the beast’s head being wounded.

I must caution everyone that this is mostly speculation. Over the ages the anti christ and beast have been fingered time and time again, only to be proven wrong. Why should we think that we are correct? We may have clues and part of the picture but not the entire truth.

The end times may be more than a century away or very soon. Let us keep the faith and our eyes wide opened. Also we must have humility to admit we could be wrong and not be blinded by exterior issues not found in the Bible.

Thanks. I think this is a good site with lots of content to pick from.
This election season has Christians in a place where I’ve never noticed before on the national level. I have seen this before on the state level during the election of Deval Patrick. Nobody is celebrating anymore here the first black governor of the state.
I grew up in Detroit under Coleman Young. Black leaders are nothing new to me.
I’ve never noticed the chasm between mainline Christians and Evangelicals about this election and Obama. I am an evangelical Christian who is also black. I attended a predominant evangelical church that opposed abortion and gay marriage in Massachusetts. I went to a prayer meeting for the inauguration of Deval Patrick as Governor. We had some good debates within the church about the gay issues that Patrick was staunchly pro-gay marriage. The Black Ministerial Alliance decided to pray for and celebrate a man they know would oppose most of our morals. This is a Christian site but the term Dejavu comes to mind.

I think if people want to see the kind of change Obama will bring to this country, all they need to do is look at his history in Chicago. I am black as well, and what amazes me is the racism in blacks, and the denial of it, even christians. The majority of Obama supporters seem to crave more government at any cost. Unfortunately, their own racism & desire for government control undermines the true progress that these supporters are seeking. May God bless you

I think he will win. I don’t agree with him on any major issue and I wouldn’t even reelect him as a senator. The nation doesn’t have the treasury to finance his many promises unless we take ALL of the rich peoples money.
I hope what I say here isn’t double minded but showing that I see a silver lining in the storm cloud.
I usually enjoy black history month and this will no doubt be a boost for it. Martin Luther King Jr day will have more flavor.
Black and white Christians should be thankful that we can break bread together and great strides have been made in this country.
Multiracial evangelical churches right now could be on pins an needles knowing the debates are pretty fierce and there is a racial component.
The bitterness of the past and even current racism can set us back. There will be Pat Buchanan on the right saying something outrageous and a Farrakhan saying something equally sickening.
Black Nationalism and black theology is more than soundbite from Rev. Wright or Louis Farrakhan. These will have to be addressed as well starting from Kwanzaa. When we really find out who Jesus is then maybe we can do something about the murders and incarcerations etc…

  10. Devon said

Well Diane, that is a very kind comment to me and James but sadly, I wouldn’t know the first thing about setting up my own website…ha ha ha….really though, I enjoy many fine Christian websites from people all over the world…Job here, IC’s website and GayChristian watch by Pastor Melvin Foster…

And I really enjoy the comments here..especially James…great minds think alike…lol…..

    To John…

I like many Christians I am sure in these dangerous times wonder about the identity of the antichrist…personally I can’t imagine it would be a U.S. President…I tend to think that may be too obvious…

Kinda like a Pope or leader of the EU…..though anything is possible….I wonder if it will be someone behind the scenes that appears rather suddenly…someone with a plan to fix our economic woes and the like…

  11. Diane said

I think it’s about 50-50 on the presidential race, but there is an underlying thought in my mind that your hunch is right. For all the promises in Chicago, the federal money went into the pockets of a few select friends of Obama while the poor (the ones who were suppose to benefit from the money) lived in condemned housing. He has a history of starting programs for the poor that filters millions of dollars to his circle of friends. This is the Change he wants people to believe in. At this time, I see the silver lining, coming after the wake up call.

  12. James said

Chicago has a murder rate that is outrageous that nobody is talking about nationally. I saw a paper that said less than half of the murders in Chicago were solved. Even though the incarceration rate is very high for drugs the murderers keep on until they get a few notches in their belts. I’m going to put my evangelicalism out there once again and say their should be a vocal Christian response to this violence. I think they reelect the same guys who do nothing about it because they are democrats.
I would say an election in Chicago, Detroit or a similar murder capital is a life and death choice. Somebody said “Wake up people.”

  13. Diane said

We do need to raise our voices for truth and vote for people who will at least uphold some standard of righteousness (though both candidates have their shortcomings). I fear too few are engaging in conversations because of fear of being called an uncle Tom etc, or because theyre being bullied for disagreeing with the popular view. But truth, inspite of the consequences, needs to be spoken.

But to add to what you said about finding out who Jesus is, the times during Johnathan Edwards, and John Wesley were said to be wicked and perilous times as well, so there is hope. Conviction of sin accompanied the preaching of the gospel. The Kentucky revival happened when people covenanted to pray ( I need to pray more). May God’s people pray for and may God send revival.

  14. James said

Let’s get back to Pastor Kato for a moment. The civil rights movement by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr would not have existed if he followed this vein of understanding. At that time the country was too far to the right.
I don’t advocate groups of good ole boys with rifles going out to make justice. Dr. King got together with other pastors and marched for what he believed in. Thanks be to Dr. King and those who marched I will be voting for the man who best represents my viewpoints.

  15. Diane said

I hope Pastor Kato is not advocating that we ignore Obama’s ideology & history and blindly follow. No, I don’t believe violence is the answer either, we might have to wait 4 years to vote him out, and perhaps by then, our congress may have more conservative voices acting as a restraint to some of this lawlessness. And yes I agree, I believe God used Martin L. King to address social injustice. I’m also glad that christian abolitionist didn’t go along with the corrupt laws of their day.

  16. James said

My brother-in-law gave me the book “Audacity of Hope” I will get some quotes from his own book what he believes so I don’t bear a false witness. There are three conclusions from Trinity church that I can think of. The senator has not cleared this up.
    1. He believed in the black values system and enjoyed what was preached there. There was Black theology and Black Nationalism under Rev. Wright admittedly.
    2. He was an occasional attender not knowing what his family was listening to on a weekly basis. Some people claim to be Christians but only go to church on Christmas and Easter.
    3. The relationship between Obama and the church was mainly business. He could believe entirely something else and just signed up for the black values system.
I know another reader can do these points on all of the candidates but only one candidate has signed onto a racial document like this one. Black theology would be a political Christianity that should be condemned by Pastor Kato.

  17. Devon said

Brethren, help this Canadian out and tell me who this Pastor Kato is?

  18. James said

He wrote this stuff about the political religious right leading us all to Hell…yadayadayada.
We firmly believe in loyalty to our nation yet we as Christians can disagree. Christ is my saviour and redeemer so I’m sure he doesn’t have power to send me to outer darkness.
We have examples from the left to force a change such as Martin Luther King Jr. He was a baptist who never signed on to Black Nationalism or black theology. They are political and religious but not villified as much as evangelicals nowadays.

  19. James said

Here are some passages from Acts 17. I know there are anti evangelicals that are ready to pounce on me. If I have an error in understanding scripture then I will be a Berean to straighten it out.

20You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we want to know what they mean.” 21(All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking about and listening to the latest ideas.)

If I get into a conversation concerning the latest ideas, current events, politics or religion and Christ is my Lord then what I believe will enter that conversation. We need to be where people are saying something and add our 2 cents for the kingdom and hopefully the result will be a better informed Christian and an unbeliever will have the gospel of Christ presented to him. Paul wasn’t trying to set up a theocracy or run for the senate.

22Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.

Religious people are still like this. The objects of worship have only changed. Oprah could use this conversation.

24″The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28’For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’

29″Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man’s design and skill. 30In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.”
I biblically confess this scripture. Repent not just change.

32When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this subject.” 33At that, Paul left the Council. 34A few men became followers of Paul and believed…

Some people are still sneering and mocking God’s people when they are taking the gospel to the conversation place. I have been rebuked for casting my pearls before swine. Any person with a genuine zeal for Christ will have errors from time to time. That should not quench his spirit for the lost.
