Breaking Christian News Is A Broken Source For True Christianity By Promoting Todd Bentley!

Posted by Job on June 9, 2008

This really does break my heart. One of my main sources for relevant Christian news is I say “relevant” because a lot of what they provide is either hard to find “beneath the headlines” types of stories, or things directly related to areas like faith healings, testimonies, Christian persecution, Bible prophecy, and opposition to abortion and gay rights. Along with Worthy News, their story selection and news perspective seemed to reflect the very mindset that I was trying to promote on this website, and for that reason content from Breaking Christian News was regularly featured and promoted on this site. Now, however, I am going to be forced to view the people, content, and worldview of Breaking Christian News differently. Why? Because they are fervent supporters of the evil of Todd Bentley. See below.

“I say, you have nothing to lose but your sickness. If the doctors can’t help you, why wouldn’t you give God a chance?”

FOUNDING EDITOR’S NOTE: I debated whether or not to even link to this MSNBC story. It was well done, but the secular media feels, as is normal, the obligation to post both pro and con arguments toward this revival or any news story, honestly. One can’t blame that approach as they are not there to “fan the flames” for the Church . . . at least not yet. So in order for them to be considered “news,” they have to find someone on most stories who say “My take on this is that it isn’t good.” (words to that effect). So it is with mixed feelings (mostly good) that I post this story. The summary was well written by our own Teresa Neumann with Breaking Christian News. As many of you link to the story from MSNBC, I would encourage the reader to remember what Jesus’ response was when His strange healings were happening and John the Baptist was stuck in prison. “Are you the ONE?” He was asked, “or should we look for another?” Jesus’ response was simple and direct: “. . . So He replied to the messengers, ‘Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.'” Luke 7:21-22 (NIV) – Steve Shultz, BCN.

(Lakeland, Florida)—MSNBC has published yet another report on the Lakeland Revival, or the “Florida Outpouring,” which began on April 2 with healing meetings conducted by evangelist Todd Bentley at Ignited Church in Lakeland, Florida.

The report explains how the meetings have “outgrown four venues, including a local convention center that seats roughly 7,000. Now,” the report states, “they meet under an air-conditioned tent that can accommodate 10,000 on the grounds of the local airport. Organizers estimate that more than 140,000 people from at least 40 nations have attended meetings here.”

The article, coming from a secular outlet, explains to readers their interpretation of some of the charismatic manifestations that go in the meetings, such as people being “slain in the Spirit” when they are prayed for. The article also predictably interviews critics of the revival to which Bentley responds, “I don’t have time to debate whether revival is happening or not. I don’t have time to nitpick the reasons why God might not be moving.”(Photo: Courtesy Loren Brown)

On a positive note, people who have been healed through the Lakeland Revival were cited. Examples include a man who testified to being healed of multiple forms of cancer by watching the meetings on the Internet at home and plans to have his oncologist document his healing, and a wheel-bound Arkansas woman healed from injuries sustained in an accident three years ago.

Bentley’s method of receiving donations caught the reporter’s attention as well, with it being noted that his meetings are free of charge and that other than the typical passing of white offering buckets each night four hours into the service, they have only asked for money once.
Fresh Fire spokeswoman Lynne Breidenbach says the offerings have covered their enormous operating costs and have not contributed to a significant infusion of cash for Bentley or his ministry. Bentley himself is quoted as saying he “welcomes media attention and scrutiny because the ‘outpouring’ is a work of God and he has ‘nothing to hide.'”

The prologue to this story by the founding editor of Breaking Christian News is amazing. They actually considered not running the story because MSNBC’s actually allowing someone to voice concerns that what is going on there may not be biblical offended them! And when you consider that Jesus Christ and His apostles took on and OVERCAME all challengers instead of trying to silence people and cover them up, you see precisely how far from the Bible these people are! But I am telling you, this is why these people do not want to see challenges to Bentley. As you can see below, these folks have ample reason to try to shield this fellow from Biblical scrutiny. But we all know that things that are done in secret will come out into the light. People, you can do all you want to try to protect Bentley now, but the truth is going to come out and be dealt with on judgment day. That is what you ought to be concerned with. Why? Read Revelation 2 and 3 people! Judgment starts with the church! So, you people that are twisting yourselves into pretzels defending abominations, have you given any thought to when the day of the Lord comes, what is going to happen to you for not only supporting but failing to speak out against this?

John & Carol Arnott Walk in love and forgiveness? So why are they suing Walter Kambulow for $ 50 million dollars? Aren’t they real hypocrites?

    Dear Brother,

I am in constant prayer for you and have released your name on my prayer listing for those who desperately need a visitation from the Lord and Mass deliverance.

May the demonic spirits that wrapped up your soul and confused your mind be bound in the name of Jesus!

John Arnott is a great man of GOD and has the fruit to show it. I have seen hundreds come to the Lord through his ministry and I personllay had a miraculous healing in his church at his hand. He walks in total LOVE, preaches LOVE, teaches the importance of Forgiveness and walks in gifts of healing.

You obvously need to read his book on forgiveness. May God forgive you for attacking a man of God.

Robin Rowan is the Director of His Events, (God is the creator). This assignment God gave to her in 2006 and is continuously growing. She is a student of Paul Keith Davis, serving White Dove Ministries as an active volunteer, and attends Church of His Presence under Pastor John Kilpatrick in Daphne Alabama. Robin is single, a devote servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, and works in the marketplace for the Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Inspector General, as an Auditor for Disaster Assistance Oversight in Biloxi, Mississippi. What is wrong with todays christians?
Why do they follow after every wind and doctrine out there? I believe everyone is in for a shrewd awakening when the two witnesses start preaching. They are going to hate what they have to say because it isn’t going to be fluff. Don’t christians read all of the bible or do they take upon themselves only the scriptures that make them feel good. There are several warnings about false teachers and doctrines. They should take heed to these scriptures.

  3. [08.13.08] Leaders of the apostolic movement are scrambling for answers after learning that revival leader Todd Bentley is separating from his wife.

California pastor Bill Johnson, who with pastors John Arnott and Ché Ahn represents Bentley’s apostolic “covering” under a group called the Revival Alliance, said he was shocked by Bentley’s announcement. “This is an obvious tragedy, both for Todd and Shonnah and the move of God in Lakeland,” Johnson said.

“They had problems a couple of years ago, and I got involved at that time to lend support and give counsel to Todd and his staff. In talking with Todd I was led to believe those issues were now in order. Obviously they weren’t.”

During an impromptu meeting Monday, Bentley told the staff of his Fresh Fire Ministries that he and his wife, Shonnah, were separating. In a statement released Tuesday, the Fresh Fire board of directors said “an atmosphere of fatigue and stress” created by the daily meetings Bentley led until recently, “exacerbated existing issues in [his marriage].”

Bentley did not respond to Charisma’s request for comment.

Fresh Fire’s board members stated that the meetings were not to blame for the breakup of Bentley’s marriage, that the separation was not due to infidelity by either spouse and that they hoped the marriage would be restored. “We know that many of you will have questions, for most of which we presently have no answers,” the board members stated.

Bentley has spent most of the last four months away from his home in Abbottsford, B.C., where his wife and three children reside. Shonnah Bentley has appeared on the platform with her husband in Lakeland periodically.

The news did not come as a total surprise to the top three members of the Revival Alliance, an apostolic group that Bentley submitted himself to during a commissioning ceremony on June 23 in Lakeland. “We are all of one heart in that we want to see their marriage restored, and just as important, see their hearts get healed from these points of weakness that have been there for years,” Johnson said.

At press time, Johnson said he had still not been able to make contact with Bentley.

    C. Peter Wagner, leader of the International Coalition of Apostles, convened and officiated at the Revival Alliance’s commissioning ceremony in June. Wagner’s wife, Doris, said he was shocked when he received the news of Bentley’s separation while he was in Asia conducting a 10-day ministry trip.

Arnott, an alliance member and founding pastor of the Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship, said he was also surprised when he got word Monday of Bentley’s separation. “I had hoped that the previous troubles had been resolved and worked through,” he told Charisma, referring to marital problems he said the Bentleys had two years ago.

Ahn told Charisma the Revival Alliance is “doing all that we can do to bring correction and counsel to Todd.”

Stephen Strader, senior pastor of Ignited Church, where Bentley’s revival meetings began, told Charisma the separation was for “a period of time while [the couple] both continue to receive counseling.” Strader said he only recently discovered the counseling sessions between the two had been ongoing for the past three years.

“The outpouring has put a tremendous strain on their [counseling] process because the process, for all intents and purposes, was almost suspended because of the exaggerated distance and the exaggerated seven-days-a-week schedule,” Strader said.

According to Strader, Bentley turned the leadership of the revival meetings over to him on Aug. 6—more than two weeks before the Aug. 23 date Bentley previously said would be his last service. Strader said Bentley would officially depart the revival during tonight’s meeting in Lakeland, when Bentley is scheduled to thank the crowd and “commission his interns” to continue the revival.

In their statement, the Fresh Fire board members said the ministry would focus on “growing the Global Outpourings” that have spread since April via GOD TV and the Internet.

Rory and Wendy Alec, founders of GOD TV, said that even though last Friday was their network’s final live broadcast of the Lakeland meetings, they believe the “outpouring” is a genuine move of God. “We believe that it is important to recognize and defend the authenticity of this outpouring by the testimonies of the countless thousands who viewed on GOD TV or attended at Lakeland and were healed, set free and delivered through Jesus Christ,” the Alecs said in a statement.

Patricia King, founder of Extreme Prophetic TV and a close friend of Bentley’s, told Charisma she is praying for wisdom about how to help people process the news of Bentley’s separation. “I am heart-broken over the situation,” she said. “I love Todd. I will always love Him. I will carry Him in my heart and prayers and never let go.

“Right now, though, I am in pain, deep pain,” she added, “for the body [of Christ], for Todd, for his family.”

Johnson said the Revival Alliance leaders want to help Bentley heal and experience restoration. “None of the Revival Alliance members sweeps things under the carpet and ignore or deny tragedy,” he said. “Neither do we think great anointing is a replacement for character. We will now work hard to bring healing and restoration, considering it a privilege to stand with a brother in trouble, regardless of who is at fault.” —Paul Steven Ghiringhelli

  4. Thank God for the serious bloggers who revealed the dark secrets of Todd Bentley and Peter Wagner his strange flock?
Who would have ever thought that people in the world are beginning to call for investigations of these so-called prophets? Meanwhile many Christian pastors continue to follow these wolves in sheep’s clothing. They brought another spirit, another gospel, another Jesus back to their churches. I am beginning some that went over to Lakeland. They are coming beleaguered by the demons they received during this fake revival. And the pastors continue to be deceived.
One family came to us and the entire family was being besieged tormented by demons. The mother had read my articles and went to her pastor and she was rejected because she disagreed with his position concerning the revival. She told me that when he returned from Lakeland, his messages changed. He stopped preaching from the Bible and laughed a lot. He prayed for a woman who had a pain in leg and she is almost crippled now. The fruit is not good.
However, the heretical group of so-called prophets and apostles are now coming into view by the secular media who are asking for investigations concerning the fraud of these greedy so-called Christians.
Who would have ever thought that people in the world are beginning to call for investigations of these so-called prophets? Meanwhile many Christian pastors continue to blindly follow these false buffoons. God’s people are duped by the doctrines of devils.
    Pat Holliday

  5. If God is love, where’s the Love? Doesn’t Love cover a multitude of sins? Where is forgiveness? Where is a good christian witness that we love one another, that they will know us by OUR love?
