MIKE HUCKABEE DEFENDS BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA PASTOR JEREMIAH WRIGHT!

Huck on Wright and Obama’s Speech [David Freddoso]

On MSNBC today:

Obama has handled this about as well as anybody could…He made the point, and I think it’s a valid one, that you can’t hold a candidate responsible for everything that people around him may say or do. You just can’t, whether it’s me, whether it’s Obama, or anyone else. But he did distance himself from the very vitriolic statements…

It is interesting to me that there are some people on the Left who are having to be very uncomfortable with what Wright said when they were all over a Jerry Falwell or anyone on the Right who said things that they found very awkward or uncomfortable years ago. Many times, those were statements lifted out of the context of a larger sermon. Sermons, after all, are rarely written word for word by pastors like Rev. Wright, who are delivering them extemporaneously and caught up in the emotion of the moment. There are things that sometimes get said that, if you looked at them in print, you’d say, “Well, I wouldn’t have put it quite that way.

Huckabee added that he was not defending what Wright said, but I think he does let him and others off the hook a bit too easily. One would expect priests and pastors, as ministers of God, to take greater care in what they say than do politicians. Not that they have to say things people will like — often duty requires them to say things people will not like — but their authority comes with a greater, divine obligation to stay away from hatred and conspiratorial wackiness.

Huckabee also added the following reflection on race and its role in Wright’s statements.

…As easy as it is for those of us who are white to look back and say, “That’s a terrible statement,” I grew up in a very segregated South…We’ve got to cut some slack to people who grew up being called names, being told you have to sit in the balcony when you go into the movie, you have to go to the back door to go into the restaurant and you can’t sit out there with everyone else, there’s a separate waiting room in the doctor’s office, here’s where you sit on the bus. You know what? Sometimes people do have a chip on their shoulder and resentment. And you have to say, I probably would too.

Sure, it is 100% natural, Huckabee and Wright, to be resentful over ill treatment. But Christians are not called to be 100% natural. We are called to be born again in Jesus Christ and to hold every thought and action into captivity of Jesus Christ. The church is not the place to go to hold onto, nurse, and legitimize grievances against our brother and place them into some political context. The church is supposed to be where people are exhorted to forgive as God forgave us! If we, being sinners, cannot forgive sins against us, how can we expect God, who ever sinned, to forgive our sins against HIM?

Now I give Mike Huckabee all the credit in the world for helping integrate the Arkansas Southern Baptist Convention, starting with his own church in 1984. But by failing to represent the truth of how the true gospel of Jesus Christ requires a sacrifice of all that accept it (because if Jesus Christ was rejected and suffered how much more should we be in His Name, is the servant greater than his master?), Huckabee proves that he is no Christian leader no matter what his Iowa ads claimed.

The sad part about it is that a lot of black Republicans and conservatives are going to see these comments and shake their heads and say “see, this is why Huckabee should have been the GOP nominee, because he understands us and can speak to our issues in the Republican Party.” I do not disagree. As a matter of fact, I have no doubt that the very reason why a great many of the loathsome racists on talk radio, the “take the bone out of your nose” Rush Limbaugh contingent, so bitterly opposed Huckabee in large part for that reason. But friends, it does not take compassion and courage to understand and speak to black issues as a southern conservative white male in the Republican Party. No, it takes compassion and courage to talk about what Jesus Christ requires of every person no matter where you go, and what will happen to you (eternity in the lake of fire!) if you do not meet the requirement!

Jesus Christ did not get hung on a cross to bring justice to the black man in this world. Christ said that if His kingdom were of this world, His servants would have fought for Him to save Him from going to the cross! No, Christ’s kingdom is in the world to come, and it is in that world where racism, poverty, disease, oppression, etc. will be overcome! As great as David was, David’s men fought for him to preseve his life! Why? Because David’s kingdom was of this world! David’s kingdom did not eliminate racism, tribalism, poverty, disease, war, or death! David’s kingdom did not defeat sin and Satan! David’s kingdom did not cause the whole world to bow before YHWH! Why? Because David was not Jesus Christ. So when David died, he did not rise again.

But Jesus Christ rose again! Because of Jesus Christ, born again Christians have the ability to rise above whatever evil treatment they receive, and not be a party to whatever wickedness or injustice that is part of society. Christians have the ability to love their enemies, to turn the other cheek, to heap coals of fire on the heads of those that spitefully speak lies against and misuse you by showing them kindness. That is the true gospel. But Huckabee is representing a false gospel where it is OK to remember and count the injustices that you have received at the hands of another while at the same time expecting God to forget your sins against Him!

The gospel of Jesus Christ deserved better than Mike Huckabee’s performance on MSNBC. Whether Huckabee goes back to the pulpit or not, we must hope and pray that this man does what the Bible requires of him in the future.

  1. Video: Mike Huckabee on Barack Obama’s Speech on Race (Also notice how the salvation message is joked about.)

Defending and covering for racist behavior and anti-government rhetoric, sick.

    Romans 12:9 (King James Version)

9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

If Huckabee was the man his supporters claim him to be, he would have said the words were evil and been done with it. AFTER he told Joe S. that he and that co-host making the salvation message into a joke is not funny.

  3. “Huckabee proves that he is no Christian leader no matter what his Iowa ads claimed.”

That’s more than a little bit overwrought. As you acknowledged, Huckabee said that he was not defending the statements of Jeremiah Wright. But, in acknowledging the “chip on his shoulder,” he was also acknowledging that right or wrong, this is what Wright and a lot of (especially older) blacks, actually feel and believe! Wright is not dishonest. He’s DELUDED!

And just in case you have not noticed, in the last weeks of the campaign, Huckabee became almost a regular on that program. By engaging them in their play while holding a decent and gracious spirit, Huckabee reached people who would otherwise discard his confession out-of-hand.

I don’t know exactly what Mika Brzezinski’s spiritual or political background is, but I suspect she leaned leftward and in a secular direction. She became deeply intrigued with Huckabee and he had the opportunity to represent the spirit of Christ in that context and to their audience.

In Galatians, Paul instructed us to prioritize the fruit of the Spirit. If we don’t exude such a disposition, our words of stark truth are not received. I think here and overall, Huckabee generally conducted himself in an exemplary fashion.
