“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”  Luke 6:46

The “religious left.”  In case you have been sleeping, there is a new group
of people in our nation who call themselves the “religious left.” This is a relatively new term so you may not be familiar with it.  That is why I felt it was so critical to take the time today to insure you not only understood what it means, but who actually makes up this new group of people. Forty years ago, this group didn’t even exist. They have actually evolved and
grown tremendously over the past decade.

The “religious left” is made up of people who identify themselves as
Christians and hold strong religious beliefs as well as sharing left-wing
ideals.  Obviously, this group has risen up in opposition to those who have
been tagged the “religious right” or the “Christian right.”  The “Christian
right” is that group of Bible-believing Christians who are politically
active and seek to elect to office those candidates who hold to Biblical
values on the key spiritual issues of our day that are also political

These would be issues like abortion and life related matters, gay marriage,
family issues, the proliferation of the pornography industry, and the drive
to remove God from the public square.  Those in the “religious left”
actually take an anti-Biblical position on these issues and are also heavily
involved in the ecumenical movement, environmental issues, opposing war for
any reason, world hunger, and social issues like healthcare, welfare, and

There is nothing wrong with pursing these noble social issues, Believers
should be more involved on those fronts.  The problem with this group is
their anti-Biblical position on the key spiritual issues of our day and
their involvement in these ecumenical movements that require you to set
aside the Absolute Truths of the Bible.

I watched with interest a last week as CNN carried a special program about
faith with the leading Democratic Candidates who are vying for their parties
nomination in the 2008 Presidential election.  Each one dealt with various
faith-related issues in the context of their own personal faith.  I watched
in amazement as each one talked about how important their faith was to them,
how it guided them, how it gave them strength, and went out of their way to
position themselves as people of great faith.

Like my dear mother used to tell me, talk is cheap.  I refuse to try and
judge their heart, that is something only God can and will do.  However, I
have every right to judge them on their actions in accordance with God’s
Word.  How can you say you are a person of faith, yet vote to support the
legalized slaughter of over 4,000 innocent babies every day?  How can you
say you are a person of faith, yet vote to redefine God’s Holy Institution
of Marriage?  How can you say you are a person of faith, yet support special
rights for people who have chosen to engage in perverted sex acts God calls
an abomination, including their ability to adopt children into their deviant

I guess the real question becomes, what is their faith really in?  It is
inconsistent to say you are person of faith yet continually take a stand in
complete opposition to God’s Word.  Jesus said that if you love Me, you will
obey Me.  That means His Word.  Of course, those in the “religious left” has
been born out of the liberal “churches” of our day who make a mockery of
Christ as they operate in open rebellion to the Truth of the Bible while
claiming to be followers of Christ.

They support the legalized slaughter of babies, redefining marriage to
include men with men and women with women, perverting the family by brining
children into homes with homosexual parents, and embrace ecumenical
fellowships with all of the cults and false religions of the world.  They
deny the inspiration and inerrancy of the Bible, have rejected God’s Word
for the Absolute Truth it represents, and have bought into the lie of the
world that there are “many roads that lead to God.”  These are the people
who make up the “religious left!”

I love you and care about you so much.  It is beyond me how a person can
consider themselves a Christian, which means they are a follower of Christ
and automatically a follower of His Word, yet take a public position in
complete opposition to that Word.  You better wake up, since this is the
largest growing segment of Christendom, this apostate group who calls
themselves Christians but go to churches who operate in complete  rebellion
to Christ and the Bible

This is the group that is Biblically illiterate since they don’t even
believe the Bible to be true.  These are the people who see nothing wrong
with electing a member of a satanic cult to the White House because they
think a Mormon is a Christian.  They are the politically correct crowd who
has bought the lie a woman has the right to kill her baby.  They are the
group who lambastes those who speak out against the sin of homosexuality,
calling them names like “intolerant” and “hateful.”

The “religious left” is a group who will wield incredible political
influence in the upcoming 2008 election.  They are mostly made up of people
who call themselves Christians, but support the things Christ and the Bible
condemn.  Pray for these people since you can’t call yourself a follower of
Christ, yet stand on the opposite side of Christ on so many issues.  Truth
is not what we want it to be, it is what God says it is.  We don’t have the
luxury of giving our heart and life to Christ and then live any way we want.
A true follower of Christ is a follower of His Word.  Jesus said, “Why do
you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”

I don’t totally agree with Pastor Keller on this matter either, so I’d be curious to know where your opinion differs. I do admire his willingness to speak out against Mormonism, though I wish he had not offered his objections in the context of voting for Romney. I know that if Pastors across America would just spend some time honestly explaining the errors of Mormonism from the pulpit (without the inaccurate and unloving sensationalism we often see), then evangelical support for Romney would evaporate.

I also agree with Keller that our response to the love we feel for Jesus should be one of obedience, but in attacking what we perceive as unbiblical practices by Christians on the left, let’s make sure we’re not pots calling kettles black. We may be pro-life, pro-marriage, and claim to be standing up for the true gospel, but are we ourselves obeying Christ? Personally, I know I haven’t visted any prisoners, or cared for the sick outside of my immediate family, and am probably lacking in other areas of obedience as well.

  2. Jim: I didn’t want to get into my area of disagreement, because there is a lot of truth in his devotional that I did not want to divert attention from. But to answer your question, yes, it is the pot calling the kettle black, as where the religious left fails to obey the Bible on some issues, the religious right fails to on others. They are really two sides to the same coin of WORLDLINESS. A bigger problem that I have with the religious right: they are pharisaical. The religious left is too, but consider this. The religious right wants to impose a moral agenda on America. But how are people going to be able to live according to Christian morals and values if they don’t have the Holy Spirit indwelling them that helps them to overcome sin? Without the Holy Spirit, “living right” is just self – righteousness that does more harm to you and the people around you than good. Second, what good does having Christian morals and values do you if you are not saved? It is like these religious right people oppose homosexuality just because seeing men kissing and holding hands in public offends them, not because they are working for their salvation. If you are a closet homosexual or even if you are married with four kids and not acting on your homosexuality, you are still going to the lake of fire for eternity if you are not saved. Third, “Christian morals and values” in many cases are not Biblical at all. They are just cultural, social, political, and traditional beliefs. So, it is not just that following those things won’t save you, but a lot of them actually cloud your eyes and harden your hearts to the truth. The religious right seems to be all about the flesh, and the flesh cannot work righteousness. That is one of the reasons why I am backing Ron Paul. The late pastor Adrian Rogers (, said in one of the sermons a few weeks before his death that we cannot legislate morality, but we can prevent the legislation of immorality. That is one of the reasons why I am backing Ron Paul; he has his problems but I am thinking that the best course now is to advocate smaller government rather than to try to impose your beliefs on people using the power of the government. I stated in this post that it was the state (Romans) and false religion (the Pharisees and Sadducees) that sent Jesus Christ to the cross to be executed, and it looks like these religious right people are bent on bringing back that very same beast (the anti – Christ) system in the last days of this dispensation that nailed our Saviour to the cross in in the latter days of the last dispensation. Even if you are a pre – tribulationist with regards to the rapture, people who truly love God aren’t supposed to be working for the anti – Christ or helping satan in any way. Now of course, the religious left is supporting that system too, just in a different way. But everyone knows about their actions; see Keller’s devotional. What they don’t know nearly enough about is the other side of the same evil coin.

Rise of the Homosexual Agenda – Coming to a City Near You

Liberal homosexuals are set to make a mockery of the entire Church! A new documentary film coming out called Faith of the Abomination (, reveals the plot of radical lesbians who infiltrated and maliciously deceived the Pastors and Leadership of a mega Evangelical church in Austin, Texas. This story has sparked a firestorm amongst homosexuals, and they are set to employ these tactics across the country.

Brothers and sisters in Christ, I urge you to pray for your Pastors and all the leaders of our churches.

    In His Righteousness,
    Rev. Dr. T. Trist

  4. Rev. Dr. T. Trist: Well, in fairness, realize that conservatives have been using their homosexuals to do their bidding, people like David Brock, Andrew Sullivan, Matt Drudge, Jeff Guckert, Matthew Sanchez, Ted Haggard, etc. Otherwise, recall what the Bible says about things like this getting into a church. Jesus Christ stated “How can a person enter a house unless you first bind the strongman? Only after the strongman has been bound can you enter the house and spoil his goods.” Matthew 12:28-30, Mark 3:26-28, Luke 11:20-22. So, we have to look and see what is amiss in these churches that are allowing all of these spirits (including the people that have these spirits in them) into these churches in the first place. False doctrine? A lust for money and power? An unwillingness to practice church discipline, to deliver people unto Satan 1 Corinthians 5:4-6? Stuff like this only happens because church people let it happen, and that is what we have to deal with. In the Name of Jesus Christ, may God bless, keep, and protect you and your family and ministry.

Healtheland, great point made. Thank you for your blessings. May the same blessings be doubled upon your life.

  6. Craig said

    you said “However, I
have every right to judge them on their actions in accordance with God’s

the bible said “Judge not lest you be judged” and “let you that is without sin cast the first stone”

you said, ” How can you say you are a person of faith, yet vote to redefine God’s Holy Institution
    of Marriage?”

50% of all marrages end in divorce ( we the people of the united states have already “redefined God’s Holy Institution of Marriage”

You say “These are the people who see nothing wrong
with electing a member of a satanic cult to the White House because they think a Mormon is a Christian.”

SATANIC? what about Muslims? Catholics? Budist? This is the way wars get started what do you think? All Muslims are terrorist?

Jesus above all was a patron for peace!

He loved the unloved, he was seen with the unclean, he hung out with whores, he also said a prince “to follow me you must sell all you earthly posessions and give them to the poor” If I might ask what do you drive? What kind of house do you live in? Have you taken in the homeless? Have you made any sacrifices?

The GOP “Christian” right use bible verses to get elected. Then what? Start wars that bring even more suffering, make there buddies rich ( and therekind )

God is love. Jesus is love. The bibles we have are not complete, have been revised by people who put there spin on them.

My church might meet up to your almighty standards but we bring hope, love, understanding, acceptance, which was Jesus did for all. Or did I get that wrong?

As for the Democrats lol one group is as corrupt as the other. but I dont think that Oboma or Clinton would kill a bill that made 3.3 MILLION children go without health care while we have going on in Iraq 4,000 dead 26,500 wounded, $450 billion.

So the children that the poor will now be forced to have wont even have the health care.

I know you most likely put wont put this on your BLOG.

    Love to All in Jesus,

  7. Craig: I am not a Republican and I do not support the war. So let us get that out of the way. Second, let me ask you a question: do you believe that the Bible is literally true? If not, then why do you believe that a person named Jesus ever lived in the first place, or let alone care about anything that He said or did? If the Bible is not true, then there is no Jesus, or even if there was a Jesus he certainly wasn’t God. And if Jesus wasn’t God, why are you wasting your life caring about what he said or did? If he wasn’t God, then his life was no important than your life. His views were no more valid than yours. You should be free to make your own decisions and live by our own rules according to ethics, morals, and values that you can arrive at by reasoning. Jesus said judge not? Well, if he is not God, then why can’t I judge all I want? If Jesus is not God, then why do I have to forgive? Why can’t I hold grudges and take revenge? If Jesus is not God, why do I have to care about peace and justice? Why can’t I start wars and rob and beat and kill people and take their money? You might say that it violates your values and morals and ethics that you have arrived at by reason (because in order for a society to grow and prosper and for order and individual rights to be respected there has to be justice) but don’t stand there and lie and claim that it is because it is in the Bible. And that is the problem, Craig. It is not my standards that you have to worry about, because I am just a sinner like you (all men are sinners so don’t start it). It is the standards of a holy, righteous God who never sinned that you have to worry about. Yes, Jesus Christ hung out with sinners and prostitutes, but Jesus Christ never sinned because He was God. And this same Jesus Christ whose teachings you are quoting said that if you love God you are to keep His commandments. Is the religious right any better at keeping the commandments of God than the religious left? No. If anything, they are worse, which is why I am not a member of the religious right anymore. If you would spend 3 minutes looking at my site you would see that. Lying George Bush with his false claims of believing in Christ has been the biggest disaster for Christianity since Constantine. Hundreds of millions of people all over the world hate and fear Christians thanks to him, and that makes it that much harder to win converts. Some nations won’t even allow Christian charity workers into their country to help the sick and poor thanks to this liar. Ah, you got me started on Bush again. So I will come back to you: do you believe the Bible Craig? If not, then you are wasting your time talking about Jesus, because either you are talking about a fake god fairy tale, or He exists and your selective theology won’t save you. Jesus was above all a patron for peace? That isn’t what He said! He said “Think not that I come to bring peace but a sword!” He said “Let every man that does not have a sword sell his cloak and buy one!” And Revelation talks about his returning from heaven and utterly destroying His enemies – God’s enemies – at Armaggeddon. The Bible is so full of references to Jesus Christ the warrior and Jesus Christ the lion that I have no idea where this mess comes from. Jesus didn’t come to make peace with sin, he came to destroy it! When He died and went to hell, he fought Satan and death. Do you know one of the names of Jesus Christ? The Lord of hosts, which means the chief general of the armies of God. When Jesus Christ returns, this same entity that you folks claim is “all about peace” will crush the armies that will be trying to destroy Israel. It is in your Bible, Craig, in Revelation, in Matthew 24, Ezekiel and Daniel, Isaiah, and other places. Do you understand it? Do you believe it? Do you reject it? If you do not understand and believe it, then you are wasting your time talking about Jesus, because that means that to you, he is just another man, just another philosopher like Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Voltaire, or Nietzsche. Despite their great intellect, education, and achievements, they were men just like you, which gives you the right to reject and ignore them. Well I have news for you Craig, unless Jesus is your God, then you can – and should – do the same regarding an uneducated carpenter conceived out of wedlock who spoke in incomprehensible parables, applied a bunch of general prophecies to himself, and succeeded only in getting not only himself but all of his friends and his own brother (and ultimately hundreds millions of other people throughout history) killed, including all of those folks who put millions of the members of his own Jewish nation in ovens and gas chambers and chemical showers claiming that they were acting in his name. Jesus is either God, Craig, or the biggest fraud and the most evil man to have ever walked the face of the earth, not worthy of being followed or emulated but rather only of the worst scorn and lowest contempt. Even the violence of the Muslims can in large part be blamed on Jesus because Muhammed studied Christianity and co – opted Jesus for his own religion, teaching that Jesus will return one day to lead the slaughter of the infidels. So put your cards on the table, Craig. Which Jesus is yours? The evil fraud or the righteous God? If it is the former, then not only are you a sucker, but by your association with him and his teachings, you are an evil fraud yourself. If it is the latter, well if I were you I would go home and read the Book of Revelation and start taking it seriously.
