1 Timothy 6:12 What Is Worth Fighting For?

“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”  1 Timothy 6:12

When is it time to fight?  I don’t know too many people who really enjoy a fight.  Fighting is something most children do as they grow up, mostly with their siblings.  I vividly remember growing up, the oldest of 3 boys, constantly fighting with my little brothers.  I started to play sports at 5, and remember many fights with my friends I grew up with over a backyard game of football that at the moment was more important than the Super Bowl. Fortunately as I got older, I realized that fighting really doesn’t solve whatever the problem is, and in most cases only makes it worse.  Sitting down and working out whatever differences there were was a much better way to handle problems.  However, it takes 2 parties who are motivated to work things out for problems to be resolved peacefully.  Sadly, there are times in life when that isn’t possible and you are left with no other option but to fight.

That of course begs the question, what is worth fighting for?  Our life. Our family.  Our country.  Our faith.  Today, I want to hone in on fighting for our faith.  I often get much encouragement and inspiration from reading about Paul’s life.  As you read thru the New Testament, especially the Book of Acts, it is incredible how this man fought for the faith.  I am challenged by all Paul personally endured as he fought for the faith.  He literally gave his entire life from the moment he met Jesus on the Damascus Road until his work was finished and he was executed for following Jesus Christ.  Between those two events, we see one of the greatest examples of fighting for our faith there ever was or will be.

You see my friend, this world that lives in open rebellion to God, His Truth, and Jesus Christ, does not want to be reminded of their sins nor told that when they die they will spend eternity in hell for those sins.  Man began to rebel against God his Creator from the very beginning and nothing has changed over these past 6,000 years of human history.  The very existence of the children of Israel, God’s chosen people, was often in jeopardy by those heathen peoples groups who lived in open rebellion to the one true God.  God sent Jesus as the Savior for mankind, yet he was not only rejected by the world, but by His own people.  For the past 2,000 years, the Christian faith has been under attack by those who rejected Christ, from the Roman emperors in the early days of the church to the governments of this world today.

I contend that one of the main reasons the Christian faith is so weak and ineffective in our world today, especially in the United States, is that people have never really learned how to fight for their faith.  We were born in a blessed and unique place and time of human history, a nation founded on its belief in the God of the Bible, the Truth of His Word, and faith in Jesus Christ.  For the better part of the 230 years this nation has existed, it was clearly a Christian nation.  It really wasn’t necessary to fight for the faith as so many of our brothers and sisters around the world over these past 2000 years have had to.  However, over these past 40 years, we have become like the children of Israel.  We have turned from God to the false gods and idols of the world.  We have fallen into gross sin and debauchery. We are now living in open rebellion to God, His Truth, and Jesus Christ. While this has been happening before our very eyes, Christians who never had to fight for their faith before have sat back and done virtually nothing.

Despite growing up in the church and making a commitment to Christ at age 12, I spent the decade of my 20s like Saul, persecuting God’s church.  I wasn’t involved in killing Christians or trying to destroy the church, but in living my life for the temporal pleasures of the flesh and this world, in rebellion to the Bible and Christ, I was doing my part to contribute to the destruction of the faith.  I thank God every day that 17 years ago this
August, I had my encounter with Jesus in the cell of a Federal Prison.  It was at that moment I dedicated the rest of my life to the Lord and began to fight for the faith, a fight I will be engaged in until my work here is finished and God calls me home.

I realized quickly that the real fight for our faith was taking place in the marketplace.  It was clear very quickly why the lost world we live in was winning and we were losing, we had abandoned the marketplace many years ago and retreated behind the four walls of the church to safety.  We literally left the marketplace to the scavengers of satan.  We are responsible for abortion on demand.  We are responsible for the mainstream acceptance of homosexuality and gross sexual perversion.  We are responsible for the decimation of God’s Holy Institution of Marriage and the family.  It is easy for us to blame satan, but the reality is we abandoned the marketplace and left it to satan to have his way.

Let me share with you something I have learned over these past 17 years of fighting for the faith.  If I wake up tomorrow and decide I am simply tired of fighting, I’ve done my part for nearly 2 decades now let someone else do it, the world will keep spinning.  People will be born and people will die. In the end, God’s plan will unfold.  This is about me being faithful to what God has called me to do.  You see, I have no other choice.  I’ve given my
life to Him.  God has raised me up in these last days to fight for the faith.  When I take my last breath it is not some man I will stand before, but God Himself.  He is the one who I will answer to and who will judge me. I will keep fighting for the faith until my work here is over because I have committed my life to serving the Lord.

What keeps me going is the changed lives I see each and every day.  People who come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  People who God touches in a miraculous way.  Every day I watch the hand of God working in people’s lives all over this world.  I also never forget that God never gave up on me.  It would have been easy for Him to write me off and let me live a life of rebellion, but He loved me enough to reach out to me and let me know He had a better plan for my life.  He has given me a peace and joy that words
can’t describe, and despite the battles, the weariness, He has given me a life of abundance I could have never imagine.  Not the temporal abundance of this world, but the true abundance of the eternal things of God.  That is why I get up each day, put on the armor, and fight for the faith!

I love you and care about you so much.  Liveprayer is about to enter a very real fight for our continued existence.  After nearly 8 years, satan has finally found a way to try and silence our voice, to literally destroy God’s work here by keeping us from being able to freely minister to people around the world each day through the Daily Devotional and by email.  We have come to a place where we either do nothing and allow our work to be greatly crippled and make it impossible for us to ever grow, or we fight those who are trying to harm us and have purposefully and willfully done things to stop God’s Word from going forth.  Please be praying for our attorneys and for God’s favor with the court system.  I will keep you posted each day on what we are doing legally.  We are taking on very powerful companies from different parts of the world who have virtually unlimited resources.  It really is a David and Goliath showdown, and we know how that ended!

We have become a huge target for satan over the years because there is nobody on the internet communicating with the vast numbers of people we do around the world on a daily basis.  Also, because of the firm Biblical stand I take on the issues of the day, we have made an incredible number of enemies who would love to see Liveprayer wiped off the Internet. We have faced many challenges over the years, but this is the most serious effort ever mounted to try and destroy Liveprayer, and we are left with no other
recourse but to fight back legally.  I know the future of this ministry will be determined in the coming months by these legal rulings, an that is why I am confident that God will see us through and we will prevail!

I will be praying for you as well.  I pray that as you have watched me take my stand for our faith each and every day these past 8 years, to boldly and without fear go into the marketplace and fight for the faith, it will inspire you as well.  Everyone who prays, everyone who sacrifices to give, is fighting for the faith with me.  That is why Liveprayer, with no money, has been around nearly 8 years and has impacted tens of millions of lives
around the world for Christ.  GOD HAS HONORED OUR SACRIFICE FOR HIM!  Let me
encourage you today to rise up and fight for the faith where you live. There is a world around you that is lost, hurting, and souls dying every day and going to hell.  There is nothing more precious you will ever fight for since Christ is the only hope for this world and each person.  In the end, when your life is over, God will honor you as you hear those words, “Well done thou good and faithful servant!”

In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
Bill Keller

More Proof Our India Evangelism Efforts Are Working And That Child Evangelism Is Necessary

Posted by Job on May 31, 2007

Original link here from the Gospel for Asia Ministry

Swathy came to school with exciting news to share with her friends. “I have a Father who is alive,” she announced, “and He is making a house for me, and He is going to come back and get me.”  Nine-year-old Swathy had just learned, for the first time, of God’s love for her as a Father when she met a Gospel for Asia missionary who visited her home in the slum. Swathy’s father had died before she was born, and she had grown up filled with sorrow as she watched other children who still had both their parents. Swathy’s mother worked very hard to take care of her four children. But missing her father’s love, Swathy became rebellious and difficult to handle. Even her teachers became frustrated with her. “Swathy’s father had died before she was born, and she had grown up filled with sorrow as she watched other children who still had both their parents. When Swathy heard about her heavenly Father, it changed her life. ” When Swathy heard about her heavenly Father, it changed her life. She received Jesus as her Savior and started reading her Bible and praying every day for her family’s salvation. Even her neighbors noticed the change in her character and began sending their own children to the GFA-affiliated church. Please pray for Swathy to grow closer to the Lord, and that she will always cherish His love. Pray also that her family will choose to follow Christ.

Father God in the Name of Jesus Christ, we thank you for this young girl’s salvation. We pray that many more people in India and all over the world will be saved; that you will send more Christians out to preach the gospel to them, that technology would improve so that they could be reached, that laws be changed, willing leaders be raised up, and cultural barriers will be smashed to speed the preaching of the gospel, and that many people accept and are brought into the Kingdom of Heaven. May the gospel be preached and heard in every land, nation, race, and tribe in the world to fulfill the endtimes prophecy in Your Word and facilitate the return of Yeshua HaMashiach. Amen.

Psalm 23:6 I Will Dwell In The House Of The Lord Forever

Posted by Job on May 31, 2007

Today’s Broadcast The Freedom of Frogiveness Listen Online|Podcast

BIBLE MEDITATION: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.” Psalm 23:6

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: Goodness and mercy will pursue you all the days of your life. That’s what the word “follow” literally means in Psalm 23:6 — to pursue. Jesus pursued you with His call of salvation, and He will continue to pursue you. His goodness and mercy are like two sheep dogs that follow the flock to assure that there is safe journey to the Shepherd’s final destination. How many times have you questioned God’s provision in your life and wondered if He really cared for you? Well, there’s no question here. It says surely, not hopefully. Yes, you and I will stumble, but He will pick us up.

ACTION POINT: How would you live differently today if you knew that grace and mercy were going to follow your every step? How would you treat others? Visit Love Worth Finding Ministries

II Timothy 3:14 Study Your Bible So That You Can Tell Truth From Lies

Posted by Job on May 30, 2007

Today’s Broadcast The Freedom of Forgiveness Listen Online|Podcast

BIBLE MEDITATION: “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them.” 2 Timothy 3:14

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT: In the last days Satan is going to come, and there are going to be more miracles than you have ever seen. Most of them will not be done by God but will be done by the power of darkness — the power of Satan. The Bible says that you can look for an explosion of the occult. Thank God we don’t have to face these days without hope. God tells us what we must do in His Word. We are to remember what we’ve learned and to take His promises to heart. This will not be a time to doubt Him but to trust Him with all that we are.

The Tragic Life Of Lindsay Lohan

Posted by Job on May 29, 2007

Click here if you want to sign up for this devotional!

***NEVER FORGET WHAT THIS IS ABOUT!!! Please take a few minutes and watch the clip below. All of the struggles, all of the battles, are to reach those who in their time of need have their hearts open to hear about and receive Christ’s love and come to know the forgiveness of their sins and his free gift of everlasting life!

My note: Today’s devotional on Bill Keller falls in the general realm of things I have been addressing regarding the larger problem of our popular culture’s sexualization of young girls. Of course, these girls that they make “sex symbols” (actually objects of exploitative unnatural pornographic lust) are not mature enough at that age to handle the sexual attention that they receive from GROWN MEN (indeed, few grown women can handle it) and you see the results in people like Kate Moss (the one who started the trend), Britney Spears, Anna Kournikova, Beyonce (please don’t be fooled by her sham “relationship” with rapper Jay Z), Lohan, and many others that the media is willing to create, chew up, and spit out in their agenda of using images of immature girls to destroy the natural affections of males. The goal: making homosexuality appear normal by making heterosexuality appear unattractive, undesirable, and depraved. Let us just say that a man is going to have extreme difficulty remaining married if culture has built up in him the notion that the ideal object of his sexual desire is a 14 year old girl, a woman is going to be repulsed by (and fearful of) any man who exhibits sexual attraction to underage girls (especially if she has a daughter nearing or already in puberty) and that is just the tip of the iceberg to what this anti – Christ system is trying to do to the minds of people, and is largely succeeding. See as well as

The tragic life of Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay Lohan is the beautiful, gifted, 20-year-old actress who is never going to see 25 unless she quickly makes some dramatic changes in her life. If there was ever a person screaming for help, a person who needs a relationship with the Lord, it is . Sadly, she is simply a very visible image of the lives of too many young adults whose names we will never know who have bought the lies of this world and become enslaved to alcohol and drugs. Satan comes to “kill, steal, and destroy,” and one of the ways he does that to a young person is by getting them addicted to alcohol and drugs.

Despite her fame and fortune, Lindsay is no different than any other young adult who becomes addicted. It will destroy her and literally kill her unless she finds the strength to escape, and that strength can only come from the Lord! Please pray for her! I often get asked why I do the Liveprayer television program on a secular network, as opposed to airing it on a Christian network. The answer is simple. I am after the same people that Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, and Britney are reaching. I want to reach the exact same people who are buying into the lies of our modern culture and the current spokespeople of those lies.

One of the big problems we have is that too many Christians have become isolationists and have no clue what is going on in this world we live in. The fact is, the vast majority of people do not go to church. The fact is, the vast majority of people will never watch Christian television, listen to Christian radio or music, or read Christian publications. The fact is, the vast majority of people do not have marriages or homes that honor God, or are raising their children in the admonition of the Lord. The fact is, the vast majority in our nation are living their life void of God, without the true joy, peace, and abundance this life can offer because they have rejected Christ, and are without hope.

I’ve already touched on Lohan’s tragic young life. Paris Hilton is the socialite heiress to the Hilton Hotel fortune. She became “famous” for being an international party girl, added to that fame by starring in the FOX program the, “Simple Life” as well as a pornographic video of her and some young man having sex that was sold on the Internet. Snoop Dogg is the gangster rapper that also has his own violent video game, a line of porno tapes, as well as a program on MTV. Britney, of course, is the popular singer, a one-time Mouseketeer who was raised in a Christian home, yet has literally sold her soul for fame and fortune. When I think of these people, I can only think of the verse, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet lose his soul.”

First, let me say that I am not judging these people, their own actions judge them in accordance with God’s Word. Second, the reason I mention them is that they are four of the best examples in our culture today of people that have incredible influence over millions. To try and minimize that influence, especially on those 18 and under would be foolish. The danger is that a large percentage of young adults in this age group do not go to church, are growing up in homes void of God, and sadly are getting their lessons in life from people like Lindsay, Paris, Snoop Dogg, and Britney. An even bigger problem that needs to be addressed is a large percentage of the parents of those 18 and under do not go to church and have chosen to live their lives void of God. They have treated marriage like a legal date, lived with people out of wedlock, and how they have chosen to live their lives has reinforced to their children that living in rebellion to God is acceptable.

So, it is no wonder why current cultural icons like Lindsay, Paris, Britney, and Snoop Dogg have such a powerful influence since they promote lifestyles so many have grown up to accept as normal. LET ME STATE THIS AS CLEAR AS I CAN. IF WE ARE GOING TO REACH THE 18 AND UNDER GENERATION, WE NEED TO TAKE THE GOSPEL DIRECTLY TO THEM AND BYPASS THEIR PARENTS. For the past 93 months, I have seen a continual rise in the emails that we get each day from young adults that have accepted Christ thru Liveprayer who are living in homes where they are the only Christian. On my television program, I get calls from young adults each night who have made a commitment of their lives to Christ and they are the only Christian in their home. We have got to get serious about taking the hope and love of Christ directly to the 18 and under generation in our world, reaching them before they damage their lives thru drugs, alcohol, illicit sex, and other unGodly choices.

Let us never lose sight of the big picture. There is a very real enemy out there whose stated mission is to kill, steal, and destroy. He accomplishes that by helping people choose to reject God and the truth of His Word. He uses people like Lindsay, Paris, Snoop Dogg, and Britney as tools to lead people into lifestyles of rebellion to God that will damage them. In that damaged state, they often move further from God and are susceptible to even taking their own life. This is a spiritual battle for the eternal souls of people!!! I love you and care about you so much. I pray that God speaks to your heart today. You cannot simply ignore this world that we live in. We have a responsibility to share the hope and love of Christ with those who are lost and living without hope. If we are going to influence future generations for the Kingdom of God, we have to reach those who are 18 and under with the Gospel so that as they mature and have children, their children are raised in Godly homes. We can not continue to let the vast majority of each new generation live their lives void of God and the truth of His Word.

Also, please take some time today and pray for Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, and Britney Spears. Pray that they will come to know Christ as their Savior. Even though they have become “famous” for their lifestyles of rebellion to God, God could use them to be powerful influences for good if their hearts were changed. Paul was once an instrument satan used to persecute the early church and kill Christians. After he accepted Christ, he became a great tool God used to take the Gospel to the world. God loves Lindsay, Paris, Snoop Dogg, and Britney, and it is His desire to see them repent and accept Christ as their Savior. Pray for them to make that commitment in their life.

I am challenged each day in using the Internet and secular television as vehicles God can use to reach the hurting and the lost in this world. My only goal is to put Jesus in the same forums that Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg, and Britney Spears are in so that people have a choice. While on this day some people may bow to Lindsay, Paris, to Snoop Dogg, to Britney, the fact is one day: EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW AND EVERY TONGUE CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!!!

The Classic “Ultimate Questions” Gospel Evangelism Tract

Posted by Job on May 29, 2007

Ultimate Questions

by John Blanchard

Life is full of questions. Some are trivial, some more serious — and some tremendously important. Even as you read these words you may have questions about your health, your financial situation, your job, your family or your future.

But the greatest, the ultimate questions, are about God and your relationship to him. Nothing in life is more important than this. Good health, financial stability, secure employment, a contented family and a hopeful future are all things that people want. Yet even these are temporary and eventually pointless unless you have a living relationship with God, one that is clear and certain — and will last for ever.

In the following pages you will discover why such a relationship is so urgently needed — and how it is possible.

The questions that follow are the most serious and important that anyone could ask. The answers are those that everyone needs.

Please read these pages thoroughly and carefully — and if necessary more than once.

You cannot afford to miss their message.

Is Anyone There?

This is the fundamental question. If God does not exist, searching for him is pointless. Anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists. (Hebrews 11:6) While it is impossible to ‘prove’ God in a mathematical sense, the evidence is very convincing. Take the existence of the universe. To call it the result of an ‘accident’ raises many questions — and answers none. The same is true of the ‘Big Bang’ theory. Where, for instance, did the raw materials come from? Not even a ‘big bang’ can make something out of nothing! The evolutionary idea is widespread but just as weak; how can ‘nothing’ evolve into ‘something’, let alone earth’s amazingly complex life forms?

All other theories are equally fragile. The only satisfactory explanation is this: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis1:1) Our world is not the random result of a gigantic fluke involving ingredients that were ‘always there’. Instead, the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. (Hebrews 11:3) Creation had a beginning, and it was God who brought it into being. He spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. (Psalm 33:9)

This is reinforced by the amazing order and design seen everywhere and by the universal laws which hold everything together, from the vastness of outer space to microscopic organisms. But design demands a designer and laws a lawgiver — and God is both! The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth. (Acts 17:24)

But the strongest ‘creation evidence’ is man himself. Unlike other animals, man has something we call ‘personality’; he makes intelligent choices, has a conscience and can distinguish between right and wrong. He is capable of love and compassion. Above all, he has an instinct to worship. Where did he get these qualities? Neither evolution nor an avalanche of accidents could have produced them. The clearest answer is this: The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7) Man is not an accident; he is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) by the Creator of the universe.

The question is vital. Left to ourselves we are totally ignorant of God. Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? (Job 11:7) God is beyond our understanding and we need him to reveal himself to us. Creation is one of the main ways in which he does so. The heavens declare the glory of God . the skies proclaim the work of his hands. (Psalm 19:1) The sheer size of the universe and its amazing balance, variety and beauty reveal a great deal about the God who made it. In creation God shows his stupendous power, awesome intelligence and brilliant imagination. Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Romans 1:20)

When we communicate with one another we rely heavily on words. God also speaks to men through words — the words of the Bible. Nearly 4000 times in the Old Testament alone (500 times in the first five books) you will find phrases like ‘the Lord spoke’, ‘the Lord commanded’ and ‘the Lord said’. This is why it is claimed that Scripture never had its origin in the word of man but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2Peter 1:21)

In no other literature can we find scores of clear and detailed prophecies made by men claiming to speak from God, and later fulfilled to the letter. The odds against this happening by chance are too vast to be taken seriously.

Then there is the Bible’s impact on people’s lives. No other book has had such a life changing power. Millions of people, over thousands of years, have proved by personal experience that the law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. (Psalm 19:7-8)

After 2,000 years no expert in any field has ever disproved a single statement in the Bible. The reason is this: All Scripture is God breathed. (2 Timothy 3:16) We should therefore accept it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God. (1 Thessalonians 2:13)

This is obviously the next question to be faced. To acknowledge that God exists is one thing, and to acknowledge him in the general sense that God speaks to us in creation and through the pages of the Bible is another. But we need to know more. What is God actually like? The Bible gives us many clear and positive answers to this tremendously important question. Here are some of them.

God is personal. God is not a ‘thing’, power, or influence. He thinks, feels desires and acts in ways that show him to be a living personal Being. But he is not just ‘the man upstairs’ or some kind of ‘superman’. The Lord is the true God; he is the living God, the eternal King. (Jeremiah 10:10)

God is one. There is only one true God. He says, I am the first and the last; apart from me there is no God. (Isaiah 44:6) Yet God has revealed himself as a ‘trinity’ of three Persons — the Father, the son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit each of whom is truly, fully and equally God. The Bible speaks of the glory of God the Father; (Philippians 2:11) it says that the Word (Jesus Christ) was God; (John 1:1) and it speaks of the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18) While there is only one God, there are three persons in the Godhead.

God is spirit. He has no physical dimensions. He does not have a body, nor does he have any characteristics that can be defined in terms of size and shape. God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24) This means that God is invisible. No one has ever seen God. (John 1:18) It also means that he is not confined to one place at a time, but is everywhere all the time: ‘Do I not fill heaven and earth?’ declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 23:24) Quite apart from anything else, this means that God is fully aware of everything that happens everywhere. This includes not only everything you do and say, but every thought that passes through your mind.

God is eternal. God has no beginning. In the Bible’s words from everlasting to everlasting you are God. (Psalm 90:2) There never was a time when God did not exist and there never will be a time when he will not exist. God describes himself as the one who is, and who was, and who is to come.(Revelation 1:8) And he remains eternally the same: I the Lord do not change. (Malachi 3:6) All that God ever was he still is and always will be.

God is independent. Every other living being is dependent on people or things, and ultimately on God — but God is totally independent of his creation. He can survive on his own. He is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. (Acts 17:25)

God is holy. He is majestic in holiness, awesome in glory. (Exodus 15:11) There can be no comparison with the holiness of God. There is no one holy like the Lord, (1 Samuel 2:2) who is utterly without fault or defect. The Bible says of him, Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrong. (Habakkuk 1:13) And this holy God demands holiness from every one of us. His command to us today is: Be holy, because I am holy. (1 Peter 1:16)

God is just. The Bible says that the Lord is a God of justice and that righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. (Isaiah 30:18; Psalm 97:2) God is not only our Creator and Sustainer; he is also our Judge rewarding and punishing, in time and eternity, with a justice that is perfect and beyond any appeal or dispute.

God is perfect. His knowledge is perfect. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. (Hebrews 4:13) God knows everything in the past, present and future, including all our thoughts, words and deeds. His wisdom is perfect and utterly beyond our understanding. Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgements, and his paths beyond tracing out! (Romans 11:33)

God is sovereign. He is the sole and supreme ruler of the universe and nothing whatever is outside of his control. The Lord does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth. (Psalm 135:6) With God there are no accidents or surprises. He writes all the world’s history and works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will. (Ephesians 1:11) God needs no advice or consent for anything he chooses to do. Nor can anyone prevent him doing what he pleases: No one can hold back his hand or say to him: ‘What have you done?’ (Daniel 4:35)

God is omnipotent. He is all-powerful. In his own words I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me? (Jeremiah 32:27) This does not mean that God can do anything (he cannot lie, or change, or make mistakes, or sin, or deny himself) but that he can do anything he wishes consistent with his character.

These are just brief sketches of some of the things God has revealed in the Bible about his own nature and character. There are other truths about God in the Bible (and we will look at one of these later on) though there are many things about him we cannot possibly understand. He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted. (Job 5:9) In that sense, the Almighty is beyond our reach (Job 37:23) and no amount of human intelligence or reasoning can change that. This should hardly surprise us: If we could understand God he would be unworthy of our worship.

The pressures and problems of modern living are driving many people to a restless search for meaning and purpose in life. We have seen something of who God is; what about us? Why do we exist? Why are we here? Does human life have any meaning or purpose? The first thing to get clear is that man does not merely ‘exist’. He is more than an accidental accumulation of atoms which all happen to fit together into a convenient package we call ‘a human being’. The Bible tells us that he was specifically created by a wise and holy God. God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27) Man is more than a highly developed animal or refined ape. He is as different from other creatures as animals are from vegetables and vegetables are from minerals. In terms of size, man is minute compared with the sun, moon and stars, but God has given him a unique and honoured place in the universe.

This is seen in one of God’s first commands to man: Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground. (Genesis 1:28) Man became God’s personal representative on earth, with authority over all other living creatures.

But man was also given special dignity. Being created ‘in the image of God’ does not mean that he was made the same size or shape as God (we have seen that God does not have ‘size’ or ‘shape’) nor that man was a miniature of God, possessing all his qualities in small quantities. It means that man was created as a spiritual, rational moral and immortal being, with a nature that was perfect. In other words he was a true reflection of God’s holy character.

What is more; man gladly and constantly chose to obey all God’s commands and as a result lived in perfect harmony with him. Man had no ‘identity crisis’ then! He knew exactly who he was and why he was in the world, and he obediently took his God given place.

But not only was man totally fulfilled and completely satisfied with his position in the world. God was satisfied with man! We know this because the Bible tells us that when his work of creation was complete, with man as its crowning glory, God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. (Genesis 1:31) At that point in history; perfect people lived in a perfect environment in a perfect relationship with each other and in perfect harmony with God. This is hardly the situation today! What happened?

The straightforward answer to the question is this: sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin. (Romans 5:12)

The first man and woman (Adam and Eve) were given great freedom, but also one serious warning. You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die. (Genesis 2:17) This was an ideal test of man’s willingness to obey what God said simply because God said it. But the devil tempted Eve to disbelieve and disobey God’s words, and she did. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. (Genesis 3:6)

At that moment ‘sin entered the world’. By his deliberate disobedience man cut himself off from God. Instead of loving God, Adam and Eve were terrified of him: they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. (Genesis 3:8) Instead of being assured confident and happy, their sin had made them ashamed, guilty and afraid.

But God had said that man would die if he disobeyed, and he did. Death means separation, and in one terrible moment man became separated from God; he died spiritually. He also began to die physically, and now had a dead soul and a dying body. But that was not all: the children of Adam and Eve inherited their corrupt nature and sinful character. From then on, like pollution at the source of a river, the poison of sin has flowed to all Adam’s descendants, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned. (Romans 5:12)

Notice that important word ‘all’, which obviously includes the writer and the reader of this page. We may never meet on this earth, but we have this in common — we are sinners and we are dying. If we claim to be without sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us, (1 John 1:8) and if we claim not to be dying we are being ridiculous. Fooling around with the facts does nothing to change them.

Many of today’s newspaper, television and radio headlines remind us of the fact that the world is in a mess. It is easy to condemn violence, injustice, disorder and wrongdoing in society, but before criticising others ask yourself whether you are perfect and living a life pleasing to a holy God. Are you absolutely honest, pure, loving and selfless? God knows the answers to these questions — and so do you! All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) You are a sinner by birth, by nature, by practice and by choice, and you urgently need to ace the facts — and the consequences.

When disease is diagnosed, it is important to ask the question: ‘Is it serious?’ It is even more important to ask that question about the spiritual disease of sin. Many people will almost cheerfully admit to being sinners, because they have no idea what this means. They treat it as being ‘just human nature’, or they shelter behind the fact that ‘everybody does it’ . But those statements dodge the real issue: is sin serious? Here are some of the things the Bible says about you as a sinner.

You are debased. This does not mean that you are as bad as you can possibly be, nor that you are constantly committing every sin. Nor does it mean that you cannot tell right from wrong, or do things that are pleasant and helpful. But it does mean that sin has invaded every part of your nature and personality — your mind, will, affections, conscience, disposition and imagination. The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. (Jeremiah 17:9) The root of your trouble is not what you do but what you are! You sin because you are a sinner.

You are defiled. The Bible pulls no punches here: For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. (Mark 7:21-22) Notice that the list includes thoughts, words and actions. This shows that in God’s sight all sin is equally serious: Some people limit their idea of sin to things like murder, adultery and robbery, but the Bible makes it clear that we have no right to think of sin in this way. Sin is anything that fails to meet God’s perfect standards. Anything we say, think or do that is less than perfect is sin. Now face up to this question: Who can say, ‘I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin’? (Proverbs 20:9) Can you? If not, you are defiled.

You are defiant. The Bible teaches that sin is lawlessness, (1 John 3:4) deliberate rebellion against God’s authority and law. No civil law forces you to lie, cheat, have impure thoughts, or sin in any other way. You choose to sin. You choose to break God’s holy law. You deliberately disobey him and that is serious, because God is a righteous judge who expresses his wrath every day. (Psalm 7:11) God can never be ‘soft’ about sin, and you can be sure that not even one sin will go unpunished.

Some small part of God’s punishment of sin comes in this life (though we may not recognise it). But the final punishment will be inflicted after death, when on the Day of Judgement each one of us will give an account of himself to God. (Romans 14:12)

There are many ideas about what happens when we die. Some say we are all annihilated, some that we all go to heaven. Others believe in a place where sinful souls are prepared for heaven. But nothing in the Bible supports any of these ideas.

Instead, we read this: man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement. (Hebrews 9:27) Those in a right relationship with God will then be welcomed into heaven, to spend eternity in his glorious presence. All others will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power. (2 Thessalonians 1:9) The Bible’s most common word for this is ‘hell’. Here are four important truths about it:

Hell is factual. It is not something ‘invented by the church’. T he Bible says more about hell than it does about heaven and leaves no doubt about its reality. It speaks of people being condemned to hell and thrown into hell. (Matthew 23:33; Matthew 5:29)

Hell is fearful. It is described in the Bible as a place of torment; a fiery furnace; a place of everlasting burning and unquenchable fire. (Luke 16:28; Matthew 13:42; Isaiah 33:14; Matthew 3:12)) It is a place of suffering, with weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 22:13) and in which there is no rest day or night. (Revelation 14:11)) These are terrible words, but they are true. Those in hell are cut off from all good, cursed by God and banished from even the smallest help or comfort that his presence brings.

Hell is final. All the roads to hell are one way streets. There is no exit. Between hell and heaven a great chasm has been fixed. (Luke 16:26) The horror, loneliness and agony of hell are not in order to purify but to punish — for ever!

Hell is fair. The Bible tells us that God will judge the world with justice, (Acts 17:31) and he is perfectly just in sending sinners to hell. After all, he is giving them what they have chosen. They reject God here; he rejects them there. They choose to live ungodly lives; he confirms their choice — for ever. God can hardly be accused of injustice or unfairness!

In the light of these terrible truths, you need to think very carefully about a question once put to a group of people in the New Testament: How will you escape belong condemned to hell? (Matthew 23:33)

Man has been called a religious animal. The Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics lists hundreds of ways in which men have tried to satisfy their religious longings and feelings. They have worshipped the sun, moon and stars; earth, fire and water idols of wood, stone and metal; fish, birds and animals. They have worshipped countless gods and spirits which have been the products of their own perverted imagination. Others have attempted to worship the true God through a vast variety of sacrifices, ceremonies, sacraments and services. But ‘religion’, however sincere, can never solve man’s sin problem, for at least three reasons.

Religion can never satisfy God. Religion is man’s attempt to make himself right with God, but any such attempt is futile because even man’s best efforts are flawed and so are unacceptable to God. The Bible could not be clearer: all our righteous acts are like filthy rags. (Isaiah 64:6) God demands perfection; religion fails to meet the demand.

Religion can never remove sin. Your virtues can never cancel out your vices. Good deeds can never remove bad ones, If a person gets right with God it is not by works, so that no one can boast. (Ephesians 2:9) No religious efforts or experiences — christening, confirmation, baptism, holy communion, churchgoing, prayers, gifts, sacrifices of time and effort, Bible reading or anything else — can cancel out a single sin.

Religion can never change man’s sinful nature. A person’s behaviour is not the problem, only the symptom. The heart of man’s problem is the problem of man’s heart, and by nature man’s heart is corrupt and depraved. Going to church and taking part in religious ceremonies may make you feel good but they cannot make you good. Who can bring what is pure from the impure? No one! (Job 14:4)

Some of the religious activities mentioned above are obviously ‘good’ in themselves. For example, it is right to go to church, to read the Bible and to pray, because God tells us to do these things. But you dare not rely on them to make you right with God, Not only are they powerless to do so; trusting in them actually adds to your sin and to your condemnation.

Yes there is! and God has provided it. The central message of the Bible is summed up in these words: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

We saw earlier that a just and holy God must punish sin. But the Bible also tells us that God is love. (1 John 4:8) While God hates sin he loves sinners and longs to forgive them. But how can a sinner be justly pardoned when God’s law demands his spiritual and physical death? Only God could solve that problem, and he did so in the person of Jesus Christ. The Father has sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. (1 John 4:14)

God the Son became a man by taking upon himself human nature. Although Jesus became fully man, he remained fully God: the Bible says that in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form. (Colossians 2:9) He remained as completely God as if he had not become man; he became as completely man as if he were not God. Jesus Christ is therefore unique and the Bible confirms this in many ways. His conception was unique; he had no human father but was conceived in a virgin’s womb by the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit. His words were unique: people were amazed at his teaching, because his message had authority. (Luke 4:32) His miracles were unique: he went about healing every sickness and disease among the people, (Matthew 4:23) and on several occasions even raised the dead. His character was unique: he was tempted in every way just as we are — yet was without sin (Hebrews 4:15) so that God the Father could say of him, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’ (Matthew 3:17)

Notice that last sentence! This means that as a man Jesus kept the law of God in every part and therefore was not subject to sin’s double death penalty. Yet he was arrested on a trumped up charge, sentenced on false evidence, and eventually crucified at Jerusalem. But his death was not a ‘freak’ or an unavoidable accident. It was all part of God’s set purpose and foreknowledge. (Acts 2:23) The Father sent the Son for the very purpose of paying sin’s death penalty, and Jesus willingly came. In his own words, the purpose of his coming into the world was to give his life as a ransom for many. (Matthew 20:28) His death, like his life, was unique.

This makes it vital that you understand what happened when Jesus died, and what his death can mean to you.

All the Bible’s teaching points to the death of Jesus. Neither his perfect life nor his marvellous teaching nor his powerful miracles are the focus of the Bible’s message. These are all important, but above all else Jesus came into the world to die. What makes his death so important? The answer is that he died as a Substitute, a Sin bearer and a Saviour.

Jesus the Substitute. This demonstrates the love of God. Sinners are guilty, lost and helpless in the face of God’s holy law, which demands punishment for every sin. How can they possibly escape God’s righteous wrath? The Bible’s answer is this: God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) As part of an amazing rescue plan God the Son volunteered to take the place of sinners and bear the just penalty for their sin. The sinless Son of God willingly suffered and died for them, the righteous for the unrighteous. (1 Peter 3:18)

Jesus the Sin bearer. This demonstrates the holiness of God. There was nothing ‘faked’ about Christ’s death. The penalty for the sins of others was paid in full by the death of God’s sinless Son. As he hung on the cross he cried out, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’ (Mark 15:34) At that terrible moment God the Father turned his back on his beloved Son, who then endured the penalty of separation from God. Notice how this shows God’s perfect holiness. All sin, every sin, must be punished — and when Jesus took the place of sinners he became as accountable for their sins as if he had been responsible for them. The one man who lived a perfect life suffered the double death penalty of the guilty.

Jesus the Savior. This demonstrates the power of God. Three days after his death, Christ was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead. (Romans 1:4) He gave many convincing proofs that he was alive and he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. (Acts 1:3; Romans 6:9) In raising Christ from the dead, God powerfully demonstrated that he accepted his death in the place of sinners as the full and perfect payment of sin’s penalty and as the basis on which he can offer a full and free pardon to those who would otherwise be doomed to spend eternity in hell.

But how does all this apply to you? How can you get right with God? How can Christ become your Saviour?

Having read this far, do you genuinely want to be saved? Do you want to get right with God — whatever the cost or consequences? If not, you have not grasped the importance of the pages you have read. You should therefore read them again slowly and carefully, asking God to show you the truth. If God has shown you your need, and you do want to be saved, then you must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus. (Acts 20:21)

You must repent. This means a complete change regarding sin. There must be a change of mind. You must admit that you are a sinner, a rebel against a holy and loving God. There must be a change of heart — genuine sorrow and shame at the vileness: and filthiness of your sin. Then you must be willing to forsake it and change the direction of your life. God challenges people to prove their repentance by their deeds. (Acts 26:20) You must do this. God will not forgive any sin you are not willing to forsake. To repent is to go in a new direction, seeking wholeheartedly to live in a way that pleases God.

You must have faith in Christ. First of all, this means accepting that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God (Matthew 16:16) and that Christ died for the ungodly. (Romans 5:6) Secondly, it means believing that in the power and love Christ is able and willing to save you. Thirdly it means actually putting your trust in Christ, relying upon him and him alone to make you right with God. Your proud; sinful nature will fight against abandoning trust in your own ‘goodness’ or religion. Yet you have no alternative. You must stop trusting in anything else and trust only in Christ, who is able to save completely those who come to God through him. (Hebrews 7:25)

If God has shown you your need, and given you this desire, then turn to Christ — and do it now! Ideally, pray aloud to him; this may help you to be clear about what you are doing. Confess that you are a guilty, lost and helpless sinner, and with all your heart ask Christ to save you, and to take his rightful place as the Lord of your life, enabling you to turn from sin and to live for him.

The Bible says that if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saves and that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. (Romans 10:9; Romans 10:13) If you truly trust Christ as your Saviour and acknowledge him as your Lord, you can claim these promises as your own.

If you are now trusting in Christ there are many wonderful things in which you can rejoice. For instance, you are now in a right relationship with God: the Bible calls this being ‘justified’ and says that since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:1) Through Christ, your sins have been dealt with: everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. (Acts 10:43) You are now a member of God’s family: all who trust in Christ are given the right to become children of God. (John 1:12) You are eternally secure: there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1) God himself has come into your life in the person of the Holy Spirit: the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you. (Romans 8:11) What great truths these are!

Now you need to grow in your new spiritual life. Here are four important things to which you will need to give close attention:

Prayer. You are now able to speak to God as your Father, something you have never been able to do before. You can worship him, praising him for his glory, power, holiness and love. You can ask for daily forgiveness. Not even those who become children of God are perfect, but if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9) You can thank him every day for his goodness to you. There are so many things for which you will want to thank him including the everyday benefits of life that we can so easily take for granted. But you will specially want to thank him for saving you for accepting you into his family, and for giving you eternal life. You should never find it difficult to do this ! You can also ask for his help, strength and guidance in your own life and in the lives of others. In particular, you will want to pray for other people you know who are away from God as you once were.

Bible reading. In prayer, you speak to God; in the Bible, God speaks to you. It is therefore very important that you read it every day, to find out what pleases the Lord. (Ephesians 5:10) As you do this, ask him to enable you to understand its meaning and to obey its teaching, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation. (1 Peter 2:2) If you need help in beginning to study the Bible, send for your free copy of the booklet Read, Mark, Learn, a book of guidelines for personal Bible Study based on Mark’s Gospel by John Blanchard c/o Evangelical Press at the address below.

Fellowship. Now that you have become a member of God’s family he wants you to meet regularly with your brothers and sisters! Let us not give up meeting together … let us encourage one another. (Hebrews 10:25) This means joining a local church, so make sure that you do this as soon as possible. Choosing the right church is not always easy and you will want to find one which clearly believes and teaches the biblical truths you have been reading in these pages. In your local church you will find out more about God; you will benefit from the experience of others; you will learn the importance of God’s special directions about baptism and holy communion; and you will discover the joy of sharing with others the gifts and abilities God has given you. You need the church, and the church needs you!

Service. It will now be your privilege to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy 10:12) Always remember that God has saved us and called us to a holy life. (2 Timothy 1:9) Make holiness an absolute priority; it is God’s will that you should be holy. (1 Thessalonians 4:3) Then, seek to use your particular gifts in God’s service; bear in mind that you were created in Christ Jesus to do good works. (Ephesians 2:10) Finally, be alert for opportunities of telling others how much the Lord has done for you. (Mark 5:19) Telling others about Christ is not only the duty of those who trust him, it is an exhilarating experience!

From now on seek to live in such a way that in every part of your life you declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light! (1 Peter 2:9)

Can A Christian Vote For A Mormon?

Posted by Job on May 29, 2007 See all the compromise and excuse – making in this article, the surrender, the attempting to defend the indefensible? Get this: what if you compromise with your vote, and the guy that you compromise for loses anyway? Boy, that would stink, wouldn’t it? Or even worse: what if the guy you compromised to vote for WINS and you have to defend your choice? Yep, that is what so many of us Bush voters are going through right now. Would the country be better off had we left the spot blank? That isn’t the point. The point is that we are going to have to live with the “I voted for Bush!” thing for the rest of our lives. (I mean come on, would Al Gore have done anything LESS overturn Roe v. Wade, oppose gay marriage, defend our borders, reduce the size of government, deal with $3 a gallon gas, and win the war on terror that Bush has?) I would hazard a guess that people who voted for Lyndon B. Johnson and Jimmy Carter feel the same way. Go ahead, Bible believing Christians, and put a Mormon in the White House (or a cross dressing supporter of baby killing like Rudy Giuliani or the advocate of opening the border, ending our free speech, tax increases, and sham global warming measures like John McCain, or any Democrat for that matter) and see how you will like yourself in the morning.

Spam Christianity

Posted by Job on May 29, 2007

I was watching Christian television one day recently, and the hosts of the show were discussing the merits of eating Spam. Or more accurately, TWO of the hosts, a married couple who are well educated and highly successful pastors, preachers, and singers who are regular hosts of the live studio show as well as having their own show for married couples on a Christian TV network that is shown all over the nation and throughout the world, were trying to convince the other two people on the panel of the merits of it. One of the Spam dissenters stated “I am sorry, Spam is just disgusting” and the Spam advocate replied “Have you tried frying it?”

A little background is called for here. The two Spam advocates came from poor backgrounds: public assistance in the inner city. They are blessed by God to be alive, let alone be college – educated (both holding master’s degrees) preachers, teachers, evangelists, singers, and counselors seen all over the globe. So when you consider where God has brought them from and done in their lives, why are they still eating Spam? And trying to get others to eat it?

And that brings me to this: I frequently hear one or the other of the Spam advocates effusively praising Oneness Pentecostal preachers. Which is not surprising: oneness pentecostalism is disproportionately represented among Christians with their backgrounds for a number of reasons. Sure, that may be the denomination that they grew up in and got saved in. But just like you are supposed to stop eating Spam when your financial situation improves, you are supposed to leave behind these false doctrines and preachers when you grow in Christ and gain knowledge. But in order to do that, you have to WANT to change. I listen to the wife in this couple in particular, sounding very defensive about her growing up in the inner city on public assistance. She talks about how good the “government cheese and government peanut butter cookies” were. And you know what? I’ve had that government cheese AND those government peanut butter cookies: they WERE good. Better than any that you would buy in any store. But so what? That is your PAST. Your mind should be on your PRESENT with Christ.

And no, I did not say “future.” If anyone is guilty of the “Spam Christianity”, it is the “Left Behind” contingent. Yes, I believe in the rapture, and our greatest comfort should come from believing upon the imminent return of Jesus Christ. But that is our HOPE. That is our FUTURE. How many Christians are not growing in the faith because they live in the past or in the future and are not concentrating on the present? How many of us are in that condition because our presents are too painful for us? For a lot of us that IS the case. But letting go of the past and trusting God with our future so that we can spiritually grow in the present is exactly what God calls us to do. We are to stop being babes in the faith fed with milk and start seeking to be adults eating meat.

And this is not just for a couple of people who grew up in the inner city reminiscing about Spam and government cheese: it is for a lot of these “religious right” sorts too. Look, the 1950s are not coming back. (Also, please be aware that the 50s weren’t that great for a lot of people, including a lot of Christians, and they don’t WANT them to come back, which is why they vote Democrat.) This is not defeatism; this is recognition of the fact that Jesus Christ’s return is that much closer than it was in “the good old days”, which means that things are going to be that much more evil. Sure, there can be “great awakenings” and “great revivals”, and this nation has had them before, but the underlying calculus IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE. Jesus Christ – not the good old days – is coming back, which means that the days are going to get that much more evil, which means that we should be ever contending for the true gospel in the time that remains.

We can’t go back to the good times that we had; the great feeling of that we had when we first got saved and started going to church, or that feeling of peace and security that we had when our parents and grandparents took us to church. And we can’t go forward and live in our hope and expectation while neglecting the labor of the day. That is why our walk cannot be based on emotions, feelings, experiences. That is why our being “the bride of Christ” and “married to Christ” is such an excellent analogy. Take any married couple: the fun of dating, the excitement of engagement, the thrill of the wedding and the honeymoon, the giggly newlywed phase, and (for those who are so blessed as God sees fit) the miracle of childbirth and parenthood. For most married couples, that takes up the first 3 to 5 years. Well what about after that? Many choose to spend the rest of their marriage recapturing the intense happy emotions from the first 3 to 5 years of their relationships, and yes many will go outside of the marriage and into adultery to do it. Or some will get divorced and go through the dating/marriage thing again. (Studies show that men in particular are much more likely to get married after divorce, and to get married far more quickly than the women who do get married). In our modern culture, it seems that only a percentage are aware of what they are getting into at the outset and are ready and able to face each challenge in the marriage as it comes. Ten or twenty years into the marriage they are not talking at each other about the bills, the kids, old times, vanities (gossip and television), and their fantasies about retirement or whatever 90% of the time when they do actually talk, but they are talking TO each other about the PRESENT. (A hint: both of you being avid Bible readers and talking about what you both happen to be reading about and how you see yourself and each other in what you are reading? That really helps! The family that reads its Bible together stays together.) And the same goes with your walk with God. As long as your head is in the sand (the past) or the clouds (the future), you will never grow. As long as you keep trying to use God as your genie in a lamp or your magic wand, or your sounding board, you will never grow. It is only when you seek HIS WILL FOR YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW that the growth begins to happen; that you will grow to the point where you can deal with where God has you at right now. But to do that, you have to get rid of those old wineskins you are carrying around. Why? Because the new wine from the Lord will burst those bottles. And God’s Word does not return void, but it accomplishes the Will of the Father. So, God is not going to put new wine in your old wineskins just so your wineskins can burst and you lose it all. Then you will be in really bad shape: not only will you be guilty of not acting on your new charge, your new Word from the Lord, your new anointing, but you won’t even be able to go back to your old wine because your wineskins are broke and you have nothing to carry you in! God loves you, and He is not going to do that to you. Remember, the Bible says that you are never going to be tempted beyond what you can bear.

But who among you wants to get to the point where you can bear more temptation? Now anyone who is familiar with cultures outside of modern “industrialized” nations know about child labor. Children are capable of doing great work, and God expects children – both natural and spiritual – to labor for the kingdom. But adults are capable of more work. Adults are capable of more responsibility. Adults can even be counted on to be leaders and administrators, to organize and make more effective and efficient the works of others. They can also be teachers, who can be used to help bring today’s children into adulthood. Now I am not saying that going through life as a Spam Christian will keep you out of heaven in all cases (not that you should risk it or find out which cases will be accepted and which shall not) but don’t you want more? Don’t you love God enough to grow into and be the spiritual adult that God foreknew and created you to be? For so many Christians, all that is required is a simple change in mindset: to love God with all their heart, soul, and strength, to love their neigbhor, and to hate all evil and the mere appearance of it, and to totally reject the world and all that it has to offer. Christians, are you willing this day to give up your Spam so that you can seek your crown?

The Greatest Of These Is Love I Corinthians 13:13

Posted by Job on May 29, 2007

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)

If we live life to the fullest — no matter what our health problems may be — if we live life to the fullest, we will be loved and remembered all our days. No matter what we can offer each other, no matter what we can do for each other, we must never forget to give love. To give love to the fullest is to receive love in return. Recently, something happened that none in our church family will forget. The phone rang and we heard the news of the untimely passing of a young, vibrant worker for the Lord. We couldn’t believe it. Phone calls left unreturned: “Oh, we’ll get around to it tomorrow.” Work left unfinished: “Oh, it’ll get done tomorrow.” But there was no tomorrow. No returned phone calls, no finished work. There was no tomorrow for his friends, and family. He had had a heart attack and died suddenly. Having given his life and his love to everyone with whom he came into contact, now he was gone. One is reminded that our Lord said, “Greater love has no-one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15:13), and so he did. He gave his life to his friends. Now Kevin is gone. Gone: never to return those phone calls, never to return the smiles, and there had been plenty of those. Kevin showed love all his life. At his funeral, held by necessity in the largest church in the area, a thunderous applause broke out: “A job well done, Kevin! Thanks for your love.”No matter what we’re doing, no matter how busy we are, no matter how we feel, we must never, never forget to show love. We must not wait until it’s too late. Let us tell someone that we love them; we dare not wait for life to pass us by. Let us get on with it; let us enjoy life to the fullest. Kevin surely did. Ezekiel 33:1-9

Bringing God’s Truth and the hope of Jesus Christ to the marketplace!  Last Friday night was a very special night as we unveiled at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center our newest ministry component of Liveprayer, a live production called “An Interactive Evening of Faith.”  This musical/video/oral production is geared to and marketed to a non-Christian audience who is seeking and open to “spiritual things.”   These are the kind of people who will go listen to the New Age whackos like Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer.

That is why instead of holding this production in a church, it will be held at the same secular theaters people go to see these New Age gurus at.  Not only will they hear a very different message, but instead of paying $30, $50, even $100, the tickets for AIEF will always be free.  There is no offering taken, nor are there any product sales.  As a matter of fact, everyone who comes to AIEF is given a Liveprayer Interactive CD-ROM.  People are so used to being hustled by the church and Christian organizations.  The fact is most who are saved don’t really understand giving, and the lost certainly don’t.

Obviously, there are considerable expenses for putting on a production like this.  Renting the theater and all of those associated costs since you are dealing with union shops, renting the video equipment for the stage, musical talent, advertising, ticket distribution, printing the programs, and a host of misc. costs are involved.  We had some additional expense for this initial performance since we also did a full TV production that we are going to edit for use on PBS.  Our total budget was right at $30,000 and we were blessed with 3 people from the Liveprayer family who God moved to make a special gift to cover those expenses.  The plan is to take this production to a different city each month starting in the fall, and we will seek a corporate sponsor in each city to cover our costs.

The production starts out dealing with the big questions of life everyone asks.  Where did we come from?  Why are we here?  Where do we go when we die?  It then takes the audience  through why there is only one Truth, dealing with the Bible and sin.  After that, it deals with the fact there is only one faith.  People are told why the Christian faith is the only true faith and deals with why all the false religions and cults in the world are simply following lies born out of the hearts of men in rebellion to the God of the Bible and His Truth.  That segment closes with why Jesus is the one and only way to God.

The next segment of the production deals with people on a more personal level, going over how to get victory in finances, relationships, health, and over addictions.  After that comes the interactive portion where people in the audience can come up and ask any question they want about anything.  The production closes with an altar call and a time of prayer for the needs of the people who have come.  In each segment there is corresponding video on a huge screen over the stage that supports the oral presentation and special music.  I have to admit, I was very pleased and grateful to God for how the music, the video, and the oral presentation all came together perfectly in a very powerful presentation of God’s Truth and the hope we have in Jesus Christ!

After the program, it was a great privilege for me to be able to be in the lobby of the theater to  meet, speak to, and pray with many of the people who had come.  One young woman told me that she actually worked at the Performing Arts Center and even though she was off that night, had been
looking forward to coming to see the performance.  She also let me know that there was a large group of people who worked there, mostly gay, who were very aware of me through the TV program and very upset that I was going to be holding this production there.  They felt the Performing Arts Center was “their turf” and that I should hold this production in a church “where it belonged.”

I knew very well when I booked this at the Performing Arts Center that I was going to be in hostile territory.  I also knew that wherever God is, that place becomes holy ground.  Friday night, Ferguson Hall at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center became holy ground, God was in the house, and the
Holy Spirit was moving!  From those people I met afterwards, from talking to the head of my ministry team who dealt with many people after the performance, from the emails I received over the past few days, there were a dozen people we know of who accepted  the Lord as their Savior and many hearts and lives were touched and transformed by God’s power.

THAT IS WHAT THIS IS ABOUT, SOULS AND CHANGING LIVES!  This isn’t about being famous, packing in a group of Christians into a venue to take 3 offerings from so you can buy a bigger building, a newer plane, and a bigger mansion.  This is about SOULS AND CHANGING LIVES!  I have news for you, the world isn’t coming to church, they are going to the Performing Arts Center! The world isn’t watching TBN, they are watching CBS!  If we are really serious about saving souls and bringing God’s Truth to the world, we have to go into the world “on their turf”  to do it!!!

Preaching to the choir on TV, radio, and in person is safe and very profitable.  That is why most feed the sheep rather than try to preach to the goats.  The sheep will come to you, love you, and give you the wool off their backs.  The goats will run from you, try to gore you with their horns, and just want you to leave them alone.  The problem is, the same Jesus who died for those who know Him as Savior, also died for those who have rejected Him.  God’s desire is that ALL come to repentance, that none be lost. According to my Bible, we don’t have an option when it comes to bringing God’s Truth and the hope of Christ to the lost in this world.  WE HAVE BEEN COMMANDED TO!

I love you and care about you so much.  I am very excited with this new component to the ministry of Liveprayer.  I truly believe that through the PBS special and the future live performances of “An Interactive Evening of Faith,” we have found another vehicle to bring the Truth of God’s Word and
the hope and love of Jesus Christ to even more people who are lost, living without hope, and will die and spend eternity in hell unless they come to know Jesus as their Savior.  In everything I do here on the Internet, the TV program, now this new live performance, my goal is to boldly and without
shame declare God’s Truth and the fact Jesus is the only true hope for this world and for each man.

I want to renew my challenge to you to become more bold in sharing Christ with your family, your neighbors, those you go to school or work with, those you are involved in other activities with, or those God simply brings across your path in your day-to-day life.  YOU HAVE THE WORDS OF EVERLASTING LIFE, HOW CAN YOU NOT SHARE THEM WITH SOMEONE WHO WILL DIE AND GO TO HELL?  If they reject them, that is their responsibility.  You have done all God asks you to do since you can’t force anyone to believe.  However, if they never hear the words of life from your lips, God will hold you accountable!

I will be praying for you today.  Praying that the Lord will encourage you and inspire you to be about “His business.”  Once you accepted the Lord, you automatically become part of God’s army.  One of the commandments we have from THE commander-in chief is to share His Truth and the hope we have in
Christ with the lost.  We ALL have that responsibility.  How you choose to share Christ with others is between you and God.  You don’t need an Internet site reaching millions, or a TV program, or to be on the stage of some theater to do it.  Simply sharing with your neighbor what Christ has done in your life, telling your co-worker how the Lord helped you overcome some problem, telling that cousin who is lost in sin Jesus loves them, living your life for Christ each day, that is what God is calling all His children to do!

I could have never imagined when started almost 8 years ago the worldwide impact on tens of millions of lives it would have.  I could have never imagined a little over 4 years ago when the TV program started it would even be on the air more than the initial 90 days we were scheduled to
be on, let alone the fact it has been seen and touched millions of lives across this nation.  I have no idea what God is planning for “An Interactive Evening of Faith,” but deep in my heart I believe it also will be reaching millions of people worldwide in the coming years.  There is a lost and hurting world out there, souls dying every day and needlessly going to hell for all eternity.  I have committed every breath I have until the Lord calls me home to bring His Truth and the hope of Christ to the hurting and lost.
Those hurting and lost souls are in the marketplace, so that is where you will find me!

In His love and service,
Your friend and brother in Christ,
Bill Keller

Sex Sells, Especially In The Church: Paula White Making Merchandise Of Her Body

Posted by Job on May 29, 2007

I must ask: have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? If not, follow this link The Three Step Salvation Plan

Update: see Paula White Claims That Jesus Christ Died In Vain!

Update: See these new links Sex Sells Especially In The Church: About Paula White From Her Myspace Page and Sex Sells, Especially In The Church: Tyra Banks On Paula White’s Myspace Page: “Do Guys Really Like Promiscuous Girls?”

Click here to see other entries in this series motivated by this post ( where I first noted that certain “ministries” were exploiting the physical attractiveness of their “first ladies” for money (and no doubt many pastors choosing their “first ladies” just for that reason) and then soon after finding out a bunch of filth that made me realize that things are actually worse than I thought. I mentioned White in the first post, but the subsequent ones were more about Rick Warren and Juanita Bryant/Thomas Weeks. But this post brings it back to Paula, and how she is brazenly making merchandise off her image, her physical appearance. As stated earlier, not only is her face plastered all over her homepage that does not even mention Jesus Christ, but there is thin blond Paula promoting an EXERCISE VIDEO AND BOOK “The Ten Commandments Of Health and Wellness.” Target audience A? Women who want to look like Paula so that they can get a man (or please the one that they have) and boost their self – esteems. Target audience B? Men who want to LOOK AT PAULA. Trust me, Paula and Randy do not care; they will extort money from either. Now this is nothing against Christians whose ministry include getting people to exercise, such as Donna Richardson, Billy Blanks, and Chuck Norris, or that in the course of doing so, they are required to wear the attire and do the exercises that their professions require. No, this is all about “Paula, Inc.” and selling herself as the product instead of Jesus Christ, and that includes her looks and glamor. The “prosperity doctrine” isn’t about God conforming you to the image of Jesus Christ in the way that God wants to do it, but YOU wanting to be healthy, wealthy, successful, and (in the case of women who want to be like Paula and the men who want to look at women like Paula) model thin. Now, if Paula White did not look the way that she did, there is NO WAY that she would be promoting an exercise video. First of all, there is NO WAY that Randy White would have married her to use her looks to build his “church.” Futher still, no one buy it, but it wouldn’t fit in her “prosperity” message: why buy an exercise tape from someone who has not been able to use the “prosperity/Word of Faith” doctrine to make God use His Power to make her thin?

Now what is really sad is that this sort of hero image idol worship has been going on in the secular arena for who knows how long. And you know that the vast majority of these teenage and pre – teen girls and boys who go out and buy these magazines, DVDs, and CDs produced by female celebrities based on their looks know that A) they are never going to look like that, B) they are never going to date or marry people who look like that and C) even if they did, it wouldn’t solve their problems or make them happy. They also know that these images are false anyway: the product of lighting, makeup, specially tailored outfits, plastic surgery, and even “photo illustrations” (tricks like the notorious TV Guide cover where they superimposed Oprah Winfrey’s head on another actresses’ body. And it appears that the Whites know all about false deceptive body images: according to this link, they have both had plastic surgery to appear younger. The doctor was probably recommended to them by their friend Joe Redner, area strip club owner who spoke at their church and they endorsed for a local election. So, they can be bought and sold by porn kings just like Rick Warren). So why do teenagers – and a growing number of adults – immerse themselves in what they KNOW is fantasy? As an opiate. If you are a teenager (or a maladjusted adult) you have difficulty coping with reality because you are not equipped to; the pain and the uncertainty are too much to bear. So you retreat into this little fantasy life where everything goes as you think it should.

And this is the problem with what Paula White, Medina Pullings, Jamal Harrison – Bryant, and all of these “look at me, I’m so glamorous” celebrity preachers who to so many Christians are just another Britney Spears, Tyra Banks, or Brad Pitt in their lives. Christians are not supposed to be selling THEMSELVES as escapist fantasy images to people who cannot cope with and have no solutions in their lives. They are not supposed to be selling THEMSELVES even to highly motived successful people as role models. They are supposed to be showing JESUS CHRIST to these people, and telling them how JESUS CHRIST is the way. JESUS CHRIST is the answer. The HOLY SPIRIT is their comforter that helps them cope through this life. The RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST is what we should be comforting one another with, whether it is an overweight socially awkward teenager with mediocre grades, a single mother facing financial problems, or a man who cannot find a decent job because he has a drug conviction on his record. We should be telling people that our hope is not in this world but in the world to come, but while we are in this world we must contend earnestly for the faith, be about our Father’s business, and know that God the Father is our Social Security, God the Son is our MediCare, and God the Holy Spirit is our 401(k) plan. This is not to say that you should not work hard and save and invest your money wisely, get increase, and enjoy the fruits of your labor: the Proverbs are filled with principles on that. But if Randy White and these other “head pastors” believed Proverbs 31 on the value of a virtuous wife, they wouldn’t be flaunting their wives in the pulpit and on TV as their “moneymakers.” Yes, I used a term from prostitution to describe it, because that is EXACTLY what it is.

And that is the point that I am trying to make here: Randy and Paula don’t care about each other, they don’t care about God, and they don’t care about YOU. It is all about MONEY and POWER. The pulpit allows people who aren’t so bright, aren’t so motivated, and AREN’T SO HONEST to gain for themselves far more money and power than they could get in any other profession, tax free and without any oversight or accountability.

By following preachers whose message is THEMSELVES, how different are we from the world? And that is the worst part: we aren’t, and the world knows it. Again, people, like they don’t have TBN, Daystar, or what have you. They hear the same pop psychology and dime store philosophy and see the same manipulative tricks on Christian TV that they see on informercials, except the informercial people are better at it! So if we aren’t showing them something different, something BETTER, SOMETHING REAL, then why SHOULD they be converted by it? Now I am aware of all of the testimonies of people who have given their lives to Christ thanks to Christian television. As a matter of fact, I am one of them – in a manner of speaking – and you can see my own testimony by clicking here for anyone who wants to read it and see how messed up I was (and why I so suppose other people being messed up). But the fact does remain is that 99% of the people who watch Christian TV are already Christian!

So it must be asked: why do we watch people like this? Why do we attend their churches? Why do we go for the fantasy when the world offers the same? I have to be honest: it really does appear to be because a great many of us have a cultural or traditional need or expectation to be a Christian of some fashion. If we are not a member of a church somewhere, or we are not involved in some pious activity from time to time, we feel guilty. And if our lives are not turning out the way that we think that it should, we say to ourselves “Well, I need to get back to church and get God back into my life because I am being punished; I am not under the covering of The Blood; I have lost direction.” Some of us need the socialization, some of us need the affirmation and comfort, some of us need to be led or to be a member of a group and the activities, and church provides this for us. And you know what? That is fine. It is your life and your money, and in that context, there is no difference between spending it following a preacher who has built his or her entire ministry on image and personality and doing the same for a rock star or political figure. I am not going to claim that it is better to follow TD Jakes or Rick Warren than George Bush or Oprah Winfrey or U2, just not any worse. IN THIS LIFE, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. (Look, I know that it is possible to go to a Rick Warren or TD Jakes event, hear and believe the gospel, and be saved. If that happened for you, then all of heaven rejoiced, and there is nothing that I or anyone else in heaven or in, above, or below the earth can say against it or do about it. I am talking about who – and what – you follow AFTER YOU GET SAVED.) But there is one little thing: judgment day. The next life. THAT is when you find out FOR REAL that there is NO DIFFERENCE between following a secular leader and a false preacher, and when you will wish – from then to eternity – that you had allowed a real preacher to show you how to follow Jesus Christ instead of the preacher’s image and personality. And do not think that I am just picking on the TV preachers because they are successful. You have plenty of preachers who like to be the big fish in their small (or medium – sized) ponds as well. Well, these preachers use the same tactics because they are dealing with the same spirits. I am willing to propose that people who follow the ministries of these internationally known preachers have similar pastors in their “home churches.” They go to their “little Benny Hinn” church on Sunday and Wednesday night, and then run home to catch the “big Benny Hinn” on TBN, The Word Network, Daystar, and what have you. And you know what? I WOULD be perfectly OK with this but for the one simple fact that there is a God in Heaven that is watching you and will hold you account one day.

Father God in the Name of Jesus Christ, please raise up your mighty hand against all those who are perverting the gospel for gain and with false doctrines. May those who do so out of ignorance, please show them the error of their ways, and those who deceive on purpose please pull Your people away from them. We know, Father, that Your Will must be done, that all things must be fulfilled, and people have to decide which they love foremost, You or themselves. I am merely asking, Father, that the eyes of the deceived be opened and that they choose to seek after and fight for Your righteousness. Amen.
