Demon Of The Day: Gossip
Posted by Job on February 21, 2007
I want to say that of all the demons and all the sins, gossip is the one committed most by Christians. The reason is that we put so much pressure on ourselves not to commit “moral sins” (fornication, adultery, lying, drunkenness, cursing, violence) and appear pious in pubic (frequent church attendance, modest dress and demeanor, etc.) that it puts a lot of pressure on us. The way we release that pressure is through gossip, especially talking about the shortcomings of other church members, and the sins of those that we consider to be less pious than ourselves. In order to justify this grotesque behavior, we deny that the evil speech that we buy and sell at the price of our spirit men is indeed gossip, and failing that, we say to ourselves “Sure, gossip is a sin, but come on. It isn’t as if I am a HOMOSEXUAL or something.” Well I gotta tell you, people, first off gossip (and the similar sin of backbiting) is mentioned in the Bible far more than homosexuality. As a matter of fact, when you consider that a lot of the references to sexual sin in the Bible are actually allegorical references to idolatry, then you will realize that there are far far far more mentions of the sins that we commit with our lips in the Bible than there are references to sexual sin. David and the other Psalmists cried out to the Lord of Heaven regarding the accusations, lies, and hateful remarks glorifying their downfall. The Pharisees, Sadducees, and scribes tempted and persecuted Yeshua HaMashiach continually with their accusations and twisted words. And yes, gossiping (and the similar sin of backbiting) are prominently listed among the sins in Paul’s letters and in Revelation of the New Testament. Going back to the description of the events surrounding Yeshua HaMashiach in particular, the inability or unwillingness to control one’s tongue was a telltale sign that a so – called devout person was more in love with their religion than their God.
And that is one of the main dangers of using the church as a country club/community center. Any place that does not cultivate true love through the Holy Spirit and whose foundation is not the gospel of Yeshua HaMashiach will inevitably become a place where people will mill around having nothing better to do than to talk about other people! And if they do not do it while they are on church grounds, they will certainly do it after church and during the week when they call each other on the telephone. Many of the statements that Paul made concerning women being silent in the church that have been misconstrued into meaning that women should not preach were actually attempts to go against the spirit of gossip that was active among church women. Since that behavior is now so commonly associated with church women that it is regarded as a joke, it was obvious that Paul was motivated to write and teach against it for a reason. How ironic that many of the very churches that restrict women from teaching and preaching based on those scriptures do nothing about the many gossips instead! Indeed, perhaps if these women were allowed to use their Holy Spirit gifts to preach, teach, evangelize, etc., they would not be driven to become gossip – mongerers out of frustration.
The Bible says that the power of life and death is in the tongue. In the Name of Yeshua HaMashiach, I bind and rebuke this evil spirit of gossip that is rampant in the church today, and I ask Father YHVH that He would send His Holy Spirit Ruach Hakadosh to lead people who are being used by this demon to bring spiritual death upon themselves, others, and a great many situations with evil words would seek deliverance so that this demon would be cast out of them. Father YHVH, please teach your children how to speak life rather than death, and that a great many times the best approach indeed is prayer and silence instead of vain and destructive words. In the Name of Yeshua HaMashiach, so let it be.
