UN report calls for action to prevent human rights crisis

Unless the world bans human cloning it may be just a matter of time until we share the Earth with exact copies. This is according to a major UN policy analysis released this morning.

The report’s authors propose outlawing human reproductive cloning while allowing restricted therapeutic cloning as the most viable “compromise” option for the international community to adopt.

South Africa’s proposed regulations on cloning are in line with this compromise: permitting the use of human eggs to create stem cells for therapeutic and research purposes — but still prohibiting reproductive cloning.

Professor Jacquie Greenberg, the associate professor with the Human Genetics Research Group at UCT, says: “The guidelines are specifically for stem cell use which is what the debate pivots around.”

The Health Department is expected to finalise its regulations on therapeutic cloning, which are governed by the National Health Act, by the end of this year.

A deadlock over cloning at a UN General Assembly in 2005 blocked the adoption of an international convention and resulted instead in the non-binding UN Declaration on Cloning.

One of the report’s authors, Brendan Tobin from the Irish Centre for Human Rights, says: “The failure to adopt an international convention on therapeutic cloning means that reproductive cloning is inadequately controlled … and it is inevitable. There are maverick scientists who are continuing with experimentation.”

He adds that they can move across borders if they run into national restrictions, given the lack of global control.

“As science improves we are likely to reach a stage where human cloning can be done effectively … This science may become acceptable 20 or 30 years down the line, but will the world be ready to accept cloned individuals?”

Tobin believes the international community will have a responsibility to protect the human rights of cloned individuals if human cloning is not banned. Essentially the choices come down to this: prevent human cloning by acting soon or work towards preventing discrimination against clones.

The UN report, Is Human Reproductive Cloning Inevitable? Future Options for UN Governance, urges the world community to revisit the issue before “science overtakes policy”.

Co-author and Sheffield University legal academic Chamundeeswari Kuppuswamy explains: “Licences are being granted for therapeutic cloning, which means in time scientists will perfect the technique for human reproductive cloning.”

Research or therapeutic cloning is intended to produce cells or, in the future, tissues and organs, which genetically match the donor and can potentially cure many common and dread diseases.

Reproductive cloning, on the other hand, is meant to duplicate a person or an animal. Cloned animals to date include a rhesus monkey, mice, sheep, pigs, cows and dogs.

Greenberg said: “I’m surprised that [human] cloning hasn’t happened. I think it’s very possible but I’m not sure whether it’s probable given all the checks and balances … A lot of experimentation has been done, I have no doubt … behind closed doors.

“Whether it’s been successful I have reservations; however, I’m much more concerned about the failures and the human suffering from such failures.

“This is not science fiction.”

Greenberg added: “What is necessary now is therapeutic cloning, which will undoubtedly benefit humanity in the long run. It needs to be done with extreme caution and with very strict scientific control. As long as we adhere to this we are not on a slippery slope. We have wonderful scientists and they are very responsible. Therapeutic cloning can be done here and should be done here.”

Bio-ethicist and Wits University’s acting director for the Institute for Human Evolution, Professor Trefor Jenkins, agreed: “Stem cell research holds a lot of promise though not much has been realised yet. No responsible scientist would try to clone a human being with the current state of knowledge. It is hazardous.”

The objections to human cloning largely revolve around three concerns:

Scientific — underdeveloped technologies will produce clones with serious deformities or degenerative diseases;

Ethical or religious — producing and destroying living embryos to harvest stem cells is wrong, and that people are tampering with the sacred cycles of life and natural selection; and

Moral — cloning could lead to the commoditisation of life.

Kuppuswamy said: “Representatives of countries such as Uganda and Nigeria raised concerns that women in poorer countries could be exploited for the purposes of their eggs for therapeutic cloning.”

Jenkins said: “The only objection I’m aware of really … [concerns] early stage embryos. If you think they have the same respect as human beings do after they have been born then you can’t do any research.” But he added: “There is an abundance of such embryos in any surgery or institution doing IVF [in vitro fertilisation]. The appeal is to make use of these embryos with the parents’ consent or to wash them down the sink. “From a utilitarian point of view you can use them for what you believe is the good of humankind.”

Christian Persecution Alert: Female Indonesian Evangelists Released

Praise God and please see this link: prisoneralert.com/pprofiles/vp_prisoner_149_profile.html

Location: Indonesia Arrested: May 2005 Days Imprisoned: 755
Click here for their Fact Sheet

These three women, Mrs. Ratna, Mrs. Eti and Dr. Rebekka, (L-R in photo) were arrested May 16, 2005, and charged under the Children Protection Act of 2002. Their trial began June 30th and ended September 1, 2005, when Indonesian judges sentenced the women to three years in prison plus a fine for allowing Muslim children to attend a Christian Sunday school program. According to Compass Direct News Service, Islamic extremists directed threats inside and outside of the courtroom during the trial. An observer who had attended most of the court sessions indicated there were nine trucks of protestors at this final hearing. These protestors brought with them a coffin to bury the accused if they were not found guilty. The irony of this case is that the women launched the “Happy Sunday” children’s program in September of 2003, in response to a request by a local elementary school for assistance to meet legal requirements to comply with the National Education System Bill. Because of the popularity of this program with Christian students, some Muslim children wanted to attend. These Muslim children were only permitted to attend if they had their parent’s permission. Later some Muslim parents complained that a picnic held in Jakarta was a trick to Christianize their children while they were away from their village. Eventually their protests went to the Council for County Officers (Muspika). The local MUI (Indonesia Ulama Council) then urged that this problem be resolved by law, which led to accusing the three women of trying to Christianize Muslims.Praise God! Dr. Rebekka, Mrs. Eti and Mrs. Ratna have been released after two years in prison. We rejoice and thank you for your prayers and letters of encouragement. They made a great difference. Through letters and prayers from believers like you, the Holy Spirit strengthened them despite the hardship they faced. We celebrate their release and invite you to continue writing letters of encouragement and praying for other believers in prison. Your letters and prayers will make a great difference. Thank you for your part in the release of Dr. Rebekka, Mrs. Eti and Mrs. Ratna. www.prisoneralert.com Subscribe Now

Scientists Create Sheep With Half - Human Organs In Nevada

Posted by Job on March 27, 2007

See link here. And this link is where it should lead. Hey, all of you Christian conservative GOP right types who spent decades voting, volunteering, etc. for Republicans, isn’t this exactly the sort of thing that you were trying to prevent? Hey, you guys had Congress for 12 years, plus Congress and the White House for six years, and you couldn’t come up with a single bill to stop stuff like this? Wake up religious right. These folks had NO INTENTION of doing anything of consequence about abortion, gay rights, cloning, immigration, or anything else. They had EVERY INTENTION of continuing the process of globalizing our economy, and what they have wanted to do they have generally done. When will you people realize - as I did - that you were being deceived, and stop allowing them to gain power to pursue the anti - Christ agenda with your money, votes, and prayers?

More Evidence Of The Media Coverup Of Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s Being Muslim

Posted by Job on March 22, 2007

Pay special attention to the anti - Christian beliefs of his church. And what on earth was he doing in Indonesia, the nation that has the largest population of Muslims and one of the worst persecutors of Christians on the planet, from the ages of 6 and 10? How does a guy with a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas just wind up as an Indonesian street kid for 4 years! But guess what: he still speaks Indonesian, which will come in quite handy in dealing with the Indonesians. Once he is president and makes nice with the Indonesians, the rest of the Muslim nations, the ones who aren’t doing NEARLY as good a job at persecuting Christianity as they are, will follow. Is there any more doubt that this guy is anything other than the Council on Foreign Relation’s great Muslim hope? If so, what is the source of this doubt? After all, how else does A FIRST TERM CONGRESSMAN GET SUCH A PLUM ASSIGNMENT AS THE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE!

Christian Radio Set To Go On The Air In Indonesia

Posted by Job on March 21, 2007

See link here. Father YHVH in the Name of Yeshua HaMashiach, please bless, increase, and defend this ministry. May it bear much fruit. May many convert to the true God through Your Word and join the Kingdom of Heaven forever more. May the persecution that will inevitably occur against the converts and those already Christians be confirmation of Your Existence, the truth of prophecy, and the Imminent Return of Your Word, and may they be strengthened and emboldened in their belief of and preaching of the gospel. In the Name of Yeshua HaMashiach and by the power of your Ruach Hakadosh, Amen.

Is There A Post Abortion Syndrome?

Posted by Job on February 11, 2007

An article asking whether people who murder the innocent have a conscience concerning the sin against God that they have committed. The Biblical answer to that is: if you do, then there is still hope! Repent of your sins, say the salvation prayer! Do not listen to “the experts” who are trying to tell you that your feelings are not real! No matter what you have done, God will forgive you if you ask Him, if you accept salvation through His Son!

Now even though the New York Times ultimately comes down AGAINST Biblical truth (of course, considering the source) the fact that they were forced to acknowledge it is a victory. Christians should realize that there are plenty of women out there hurting because of this issue - and men too! - and this gives us an opportunity to meet the real needs of real people and in the process win them for Jesus Christ. It is an opportunity that should not be wasted.

Is there a point where all hope is lost? Well, the Bible does speak of “being reprobate”, a stage where one who commits sin feels no more remorse. I urgently entreat all sinners, whether the sin is murder of the innocent by abortion or gossip, to repent before you reach that stage and redemption is no longer possible. Why? Because once you reach that stage, you will no longer even have the mind to be able to seek it. True salvation is impossible without Holy Spirit conviction, and if your mind reaches the state where the Holy Spirit cannot or will not convict it, then you are already spiritually dead and awaiting your inevitable fate in the lake of fire. Now the truth is that far more GOSSIPS, LIARS, SLANDERERS, CONFLICT - CAUSERS, ACCUSERS, TEASERS, and OTHERS WHO PRACTICE DEATH AND DESTRUCTION WITH THE TONGUE will “bust hell wide open” than people who receive or perform abortions, and that includes a lot of you “good church folk”, so if the shoe fits, then go ahead and say the salvation prayer before it is too late for you too!
