Theoldadam:

Well, Luther was trying to return to the authority of scripture. I am dealing with the problem of Christians who say that they are under the authority of scripture when some other authority is primary to them.

I like Luther's teaching on vocation with regard to the subject of what our business is.

Whether one is a butcher, baker, candlestick maker, he can do it to the glory of God.

God is at work for the world, through us, as we are active in our vocations. That Christ is our life and that we might make Him known as we go about our work is an individual thing where God uses what we say and do for the benefit and edification of the neighbor.

The fruit-checkers can go crazy here trying to lay out rules and lists of things we ought be doing and saying, but that is just self-righteousness rearing it's ugly head.

Through faith, God is at work in the life of the believer and the Holy Spirit will see to it that all the work that need be done, will be done. He will even use our sin towards His purposes.
