i don’t see how anyone can jump to the conclusion that rick warren is denying Christianity based on a 2.5 minute video that is clearly taking everything he says out of context… i think people need to be careful what they believe based on what other men have to say on these matters… maybe rick warren is wrong, maybe he isn’t, i can’t tell by watching this video… i think people need to hear him preach whole sermons before they can make a judgement like this… and if he really is denying Christianity, why didn’t they show the whole sermon? this only shows me somebody has an agenda…

  2. Hi Micey, YouTube gives you 10 minutes max, so they’ve got to condense things. But perhaps if you read this or this you’ll know a little more about why Rick Warren is a man to avoid.

I’m sure HealTheLand has a boat load of posts here that he can direct you to also.

  3. Micey: Thanks for trying to make sure that I do not make spurious charges and holding me to a high standard of integrity. Please see this original link, and if you still think that this clip is being unfair to Rick Warren, I will remove it, for I value your opinion.

  4. I am the one who produced this video and I stand by my conclusions. This video, although brief is completely faithful to Rick Warren’s false teachings regarding sanctification. It is these false doctrines that completely undermine, cover and subvert the Biblical Solas.

For further clarification, I have a homework assignment that I’d like to share with you.

    http://www.truthwarcentral.com/2007/11/are-you-truly-a.html

Take the quiz then follow the link to Present Truth Magazine’s issue on Justification. You will see that Warren’s teaching put him outside of the Protestant camp.

  5. Chris, it’s interesting that you said “outside of the Protestant camp”, because I’ve felt that Warren’s false doctrines are as dangerous as those from the Vatican.

I agree that we can’t judge Warren by a few clips. But I’ve heard so many negative things about his ministry. Could it be jealousy? Who knows. However, I don’t think it unwise to double check whatever is being preached. In all honesty, I would be turned off if I heard a message telling me that life is a series of tests from God. At any rate, he reminds me of Joel Osteen, sugary sweet preachers.

it’s not that i think you are wrong HTL, just that this particular clip doesn’t tell me anything specific about what he believes… and sadly, i can’t watch his sermons or even listen to them because he uses a player one has to pay for? i did however find a blog that was pretty specific about what rick warren does believe… i don’t like the fact he pulls scripture out of context… and he is extremely legalistic… still don’t see how this makes him one who “denies Christianity”… he does seem to want people to commit to works though as if grace isn’t enough…

  8. Micey:

“he does seem to want people to commit to works though as if grace isn’t enough”

That is denying Christianity. Please reference Galatians. This is Galatians 3:1-3 for example. “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?” The book of Galatians makes it clear that those who commit to works as though grace is not enough are rejecting what Jesus Christ did on the cross. In short … rejecting Christianity.

    ah… okay… now i understand… thank you for clarifying… =]

  10. LorMarie: Well a little context is required here. A Little Leaven (http://www.alitteleaven.com) is one of a great many ministries that dedicates a lot of time to the apostasy that Warren is preaching. So regular visitors of that website can place that video in the context of all the other things about that appear on that site and the many like it. Perhaps this video is not ideal for those that are unfamiliar with what Warren is doing. Others, though, will perhaps see this as the worst thing so far among a bunch of unscriptural things that Warren has done.

Are Warren’s critics motivated by jealousy? No doubt some are. But recall what Paul said about those who were moved to preach Christ out of envy against him and to spite him? Paul said that he rejoiced, because whatever the motives the effect was that Christ was being preached. So the fact that there are people jealous of Warren does not change the fact that Warren is preaching a false gospel. I first took notice of Warren when I discovered (on sites like A Little Leaven) that he was among the many popular megachurch preachers that is promoting syncretism, bringing doctrines and worship practices from eastern religions into Christianity. Then I found out that Warren is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. The Council on Foreign Relations is absolutely committed to political, economic, and RELIGIOUS globalism. Their members include Bill Clinton, George H. W. Bush, and Newt Gingrich. Their big deal is promoting New Age, which is so versatile that it can be adapted to fit any religion, lifestyle, or ideology. Lots of modern economics, politics, and even science actually reflect New Age thought. Oprah Winfrey promotes New Age, and though she is not a confirmed member of CFR, she works with them. It is through one of their programs that she starts schools for girls in Africa (Winfrey likes New Age because it gives her a spiritual element to her feminism). As such, “The Purpose Driven Life” and everything else in Warren’s “ministry” is New Age philosophy and spirituality articulated in Christian terminology.

A Little Leaven actually caught Warren giving Africans copies of “The Purpose Driven Life” (published by pornographer Rupert Murdoch, who also has CFR ties) instead of the Bible during one of his “evangelistic revivals” over there. Warren responded by passing out “The Purpose Driven Life” IN ADDITION TO the Bible. So again, some of Warren’s critics may be jealous, but it does not make them any less right about Warren. Me personally I am not Southern Baptist and Warren is not a televangelist (to my knowledge), so I had little reason to take notice of him apart from his political activities, which I actually used to defend him from his critics (his plan to help Rwanda seemed to make a lot of sense to me) until I found out that he was a CFR guy and was preaching New Age, and that caused me to start digging a little deeper.

  11. Micey: You are welcome. And thanks for challenging me, for I have to be accountable for what I say too :-)

Fine, but I’m not saying that I disagree with what “A little heaven” declares about Rick Warren. Based on the clip, I am “left empty” listening to what he is preaching. My point is, those of us who haven’t paid much attention to him will have to do so in order to accuse him of denying christianity.

This video clip of Warren, rather than show that Warren preaches a false gospel, instead shows that Warren preaches (to a Christian audience) the TRUTH that Christians are to be responsible stewards of the gifts and opportunities God gives us. This is the very truth Jesus taught in the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30). How is this any different than showing a clip of Rick Warren simply reading Jesus’ words in the Parables of the Talents or the Parable of the Sheep and the Goats (or the Apostle James’ teaching about the importance of faith with works) – and thereby implying that he preaches a message OTHER THAN the Gospel of grace?

When it comes to evaluating a preacher’s message CONTEXT is all important. What is the biblical context of the message? And, what is the context (the audience) to which the preacher is speaking? Without accuracy in regard to both of these, a short video clip could be used to distort the teachings of just about any preacher.

Warren unquestionably believes in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. One might criticize him for less important things, but to say he teaches a false gospel is to be either dishonest or misinformed.

    It is Spiritually discerned PreachingJesus.

The Drive of this so called church is wanting to build a Business.

Christian’s feed the Sheep and Jesus builds the Church. If you have been a Christian who reads his Bible often and knows about repentance because you have the Holy Spirit you would also discern this false prophet. He is no diffent than Ross P. who is establishing businessess all over the world. Wake up, it would do your soul good.

A wolf scatters the sheep, as we see in The Purpose Driven Church.

9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.

13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.

Let’s show a little maturity and focus on the topic we really need to be on. Spreading the good news.

Instead of taking your God given time to pick apart someone else who is LEADING PEOPLE TO THE LORD, go get a vision from God and stick with it.

As soon as the Spirit filled followers of Jesus Christ unite and quit picking on each other, this planet will change.

In summery Romans 14 tells us to not make other Christians fall by keeping our mouth shut and not doing things that offend other Christians.
