Is Corporate Welfare Sinful According To Proverbs 22:6?
Posted by Job on June 20, 2007
Psalm 22:6 – He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want. Now we can debate with the left all we want over “cutting social programs in order to give tax cuts to the rich” fulfills the “oppresseth the poor to increase his riches” part. You can defend tax shelters and wanting to do away with the inheritance tax if you want as well. But there is NO WAY that corporate welfare does not violate “and he that giveth to the rich.” So people who do this AND people who support this will have some explaining to do when they stand before God.
Now of you looking for another reason to vote for Ron Paul: he opposes corporate welfare. So what if he and libertarians like him oppose social welfare programs for the poor. The Bible never at any point says that governments should provide for the poor. That is the job of the church, and one of the reasons why the church isn’t doing it anymore is because the government IS. But the Bible DOES EXPLICITLY say that transferring wealth to the rich through corporate welfare (tax cuts and tax shelters do not qualify because it was their money to begin with) and similar policies is sinful. Have any of the other candidates, including former minister Mike Huckabee, taken a strong Biblical position against corporate welfare? Speaking of ministers, have ANY of the leading figures on the religious right come out against corporate welfare? Or is a fundamentalist literal interpretation of the Bible limited to, er, certain issues? If any of you can come up with a leading religious right figure coming out against the corporate welfare policies of the George W. Bush administration or this blatant violation of not only the letter but the spirit of the Bible, let me know.

As Christians, we are to be “watchmen on the wall….” as it says in the Bible. We are not to be naive, or not participate in our government.

Roxanne: “We are not to be naive, or not participate in our government.” Would not voting for Ron Paul be participating in government? Actually, I strongly encourage Christians to vote as well as to run for office in both parties. And as far as being naive is concerned, following after the religious right is certainly naive. Most Republicans are pro – abortion, and they refuse to oppose homosexual marriage because corporate America supports it. Further, there is no such thing as “Christian values” or “family values” or “traditional values”, only living in complete and total obedience to the Word of God which is Jesus Christ. And there is also no such thing as “a Christian nation” or “a nation founded on Christianity” or anything like that … first of all, have you seen how many Masonic, occult, and pagan symbols that we have all over the place? Further, you have the church, the Body of Christ, and the world. All that is not in Christ and of Christ is the world, which means that it is at war with Christ and at war with the church. The church is supposed to be at war right back. So, thinking that the economic, political, social, cultural, etc. system of any nation is Christian or based on Christianity or has any respect, honor, or love for Jesus Christ is not only naive, it is not biblical. Now maybe things were different back in the days of the Puritans and Cotton Mather and John Edwards, but those days aren’t coming back. Have you not read Revelation? It makes it clear that the governmental, economic, and political systems of the globe make up the system of the beast, commonly called the anti – Christ. Since abortion is legal and we are a leading proponent of globalization and start wars all over the globe and have been pushing Israel to give up its land, I have made my guess as to which side America’s government on. So, a Christian that is being a watchman on the wall with regards to the political process is one whose eyes are open as to what is going on. America reminds me of what the northern kingdom Israel was like before the Assyria wiped them out, and what Judah was like before Babylon wiped them out. What we need are Jeremiahs, Isaiahs, and Hoseas to tell this nation about their condition, and also tell them that the way to solve this isn’t to vote for more Republican false Christians that will increase the size and scope of our leviathan government (No Child Left Behind, the Patriot Act, the prescription drugs bill, and very nearly the immigration amnesty bill), go six years without so much as passing a “conscience clause” protecting doctors, nurses, and pharmacists from having to perform abortions or dispense RU – 486 or making it illegal to fund abortions with taxpayer dollars (Bush could have stopped millions from going to Planned Parenthood with an executive order), and who will put more Opus Dei members who love corporations and police and military brutality but hate the poor on the Supreme Court is the way to turn this nation back to righteousness, and who will go out and attack more countries out of their desire to spread death and mayhem over the globe (and letting in more terrorists thanks to our virtually open immigration policy knowing that they will do more attacks so they will be able to scare the public into supporting them as they start more wars). Am I saying vote for Democrats? A thousand times no. I am saying that Christians should pray before they vote and led God guide them. We should trust God and let His Will be done and vote and run for office and donate money and volunteer according to His wishes, instead of being deceived by either the Democrat or Republican propaganda machine with their false Christianity.
